I tried to use this screwed directly into the bottom of the camera with a camera strap. It failed and my camera hit the ground. I realize this isn't the intended purpose, that's why I gave 3 starts instead of 1.

Perfect for my needs
I was looking to attach a lanyard to my universal camera handle grip. Since the handle has a 1/4 screw hole on the bottom, this screw fit perfectly. I threaded a length of cord through the D-Ring. While not a perfect solution, this works well when I have a lightweight point-and-shoot camera attached to the handle grip.

Does NOT WORK with either KIRK + Three Legged brackets
I was hoping that this D ring could replace the hex screws on either the KIRK or Three Legged thing L brackets. Before buying the ring, I was assured by B+H customer service that it would fit. Well, yes it could screw in, but the neck is too thick to slide in the slot. Not a large purchase, but I was hoping.. Usually, B+H is right on target.. I guess this time, they were not.

Works Great!
I use these little dealies as anchors on a small quick release plate so I can carry big lenses around on a strap. They are working really well for me.

Works to replace mounting plate screw for Crane 2
There's a small screw on the (Manfrotto compatible) mounting plate for the Crane 2, as well as a knock-off glidecam I used to use. I lost it. Bought this to replace it and it works like a charm!

Good D-Ring screws
Got two of these screw for the D-Ring capability. Unfortunately they were not as tall as I needed. These are great little screws, but I should have checked the specs first.

Screw too short for Arca Swiss style plate
Bought for Arca style release plate, as shown on their web site. This screw is too short to screw into the plate past the threads, to allow the camera to shift. I called, and mentioned the picture on their site was confusing, and that the PR plate was what I have. Had to purchase the longer screws, and return these shorter ones. SImple, easy, useful product.
The old screw had to be removed with an allen key which get lost. This one can just be screwed on and off with your fingers. Good product.

I would buy this again.
I bought this because I purchased the Oben BE117 ball head and I didn't want to use an allen key to attach a camera to the base plate but it turns out that the Oben ball head comes with this type of screw already. I didn't require it but I will obviously keep it as a spare. The little handle that you use to tighten the screw is quite small and not easy to get the screw tight.

Perfect fit, but...
Perfectly fits my Ricoh Theta S, though I sometimes need to take it out so I can charge my 360 camera.

Handy!
Handy way to avoid having to have an allen wrench or coin handy. But be aware that that semi-circular handle takes up room and may not fit in tight spaces.

I would definitely buy this product again.
This product is used to mount my quick release plate to my camera body. It is great because I do not need an additional tool to unlock it. The little handle makes it very convenient.

Needed extra parts
The 1/4 - 20 screw with D- Ring for QR plates is important to have some spare parts. These are available and are very high quality. It case you loose on in the field swapping cameras, this small part might just save the day. I alway carry spares.

Ring allows for tool-less tightening
The ring allows for easy, tool-less tightening, though be aware the screw may not fit in all spaces because of the extra ring.

Should be included with plates
I needed this because some plates come with a Allen wrench screw to tighten and loosen. One more thing to carry and lose. Get this one as all u need is a penny to help screw.

Don't use with Manfrotto WR plates
Needed to mount my Manfrotto QR plate to my Glidecam HD 200 Plate.. This 1/4 screw is extremely small and I was only able to turn it 1 1/2 times before it got tight, needs a longer thread. the D ring is VERY small

Not perfect but workable
The hunger finger tightener part is a little short to get a good twist out of. That's my complaint. It seems well made and isn't overly expensive.

Useful to have
Not sure why they don't just put this in the original tripod mounting plate. The one they give you requires the allen wrench. This one gives you a choice of the ring, a quarter or the wrench. The ring doesn't allow me get enough torque, so I need a tool anyway. BTW, a spare plate I ordered for my telephoto collar came with this screw.

A necessity omitted by Oben
I recently purchased a nice Oben tripod with the BE-117 ball head. To my disappointment, the QR Plate (for quick disconnect)came with a screw requiring an allen wrench to attach to the tripod mount of my camera. The 1/4-inch screw with D-Ring is a must for attaching and removing the QR plate in the field. Note: When I purchased additional QR plates, they all came with D-Rings included. I only rated this 4 stars, as I though Oben should have included the D-Ring with the plate that came with the head.

Awesome for shallow tripod sockets
Very high quality machining. I love the triple fastener style (D ring / hex key / coin slot). But the real benefit is for cameras that have a very shallow tripod socket (Nikon D800 series are the most egregious). It can be extremely difficult to find short 1/4-20 screws to work with those cameras, and this one is the best I've found.

Allen Wrench
I replaced the allen screw (hex wrench) with this screw to cut down on extra tools needed to switch plates. The hex wrench is hard to keep track of and I always seem to misplace it when I need it most. This spare is not the primary means to secure the base plate to the camera without and special tools. Well made and it fits perfectly.

Excellent service
The incorrect screw was initially shipped with my order. After a quick phone call the correct screw was in the mail the same day. This screw is a quick upgrade reducing the necessity for an Allen wrench while hiking.
