Light, Sharp and Quite Well-Made
I vacillated between buying this lens and Nikon's 16-35mm f/4.0, which is a bit wider at the long end and has VR. I was looking for a carry-around wide zoom and both lenses are reasonably light. But at barely more than half the weight (370 g compared to 680 g), the 18-35 seemed like something I would be less likely to mind lugging around on my shoulder all day.The build quality of this Chinese-manufactured lens is actually quite good and the zoom... Useful for high quality landscapes
I bought this for my D800 after being unsatisfied with the quality of the Nikkor AFD20mm f2.8. That 20mm had been OK on a D700 camera, but on the D800 it showed enormous field curvature at any focus distance less than infinity as well as massive CA towards the edges of the frame. I had resisted trying the 18-35G because most respectable testing sites online didn't show much difference in ranking of the 2 lenses. However, in real world use, the 18... Show More

Way better than I expected
So I was looking for an ultra wide lens. It came down to Nikon 14-24mm f/2.8 (to big and heavy) but best lens out there. Tamron 15-30mm f/2.8 (to big and heavy) awesome lens though. Nikon 16-35mm f/4 that is popular and has 2mm extra width on the wide end compared to 18-35mm. The 16-35mm f/4 is a bigger sized lens and heavier and per many reviews not as sharp but has VR big plus... I really felt that I was gambling when I bought the 18-35mm. Was ... Show More

Super light weight pocket rocket !!!
Do not be quick to judge this lens by its cheap price tag and lightweight, you really have to try it out to know what's what. After switching to Nikon from Canon half a year ago, I decided to get a 16-35mm f/4 VR from a local store, since it still has gold ring and great build quality + VR compare to the 14-24mm (which I can't use b/c I need to use filter). But that particular 16-35mm had soft corners and overall image isn't very pleasing unless ... Show More

Concerning use on DX cameras
Previously, I owned a copy of this lens which I used on D800 FX and D7100 bodies. Not glamorous or for those truly needing to shoot at f/2.8, f2.0 etc. Like a fool I sold it to chase the siren of the Sigma 18-35 f/1.8 Art lens. Yes stunning at all apertures and all focal lengths. If you can get it to focus correctly and are comfortable knowing that you can only trust the centermost focus points. Finally I returned to my old and reliable friend pu... Show More

Great Landscape Lens
I rented this lens and was so impressed at how well it performed on my D7100 and D800 I ended up buying it. It's light, very sharp, has good Brokeh for an UWA lens and doesn't get in your way. I fully intended on buying the Nikon 16-35mm f/4 VR having previously owned that great lens but for the difference in weight and price it just didn't make sense to me. This is an exceptional landscape lens and while the 16-35mm has a subtle edge in terms of... Show More

Great wide angle for Full Frame Nikons
When I was shooting film I owned a Canon 17mm f/4 lens that I just loved. I went digital in 2004 with the Nikon D70 because I had access to Nikon Lenses. Until I purchased this lens in April of 2015 I had not shot with a really wide lens since going digital. I am using this 18-35mm on my Nikon Full Frame D800. I purchased it as I was about to take a trip to Grand Canyon. I used it primarily with autofocus which worked great though not the fastest... Show More

Best Wide Zoom I've Ever Owned, Bar None
Very, very sharp lens, throughout the image range I care about (I don't check obscurely far edges; I check the primary subject, where the focus is applied--only makes sense). Combined with the D800's ability to tune auto-focus to each specific lens in the bag, this lens comes out as sharp as anything, with just a very minor sku of the body's auto-focus in my case. I was able to optimize for both congerging from too near and from too far, and shar... Show More

lightweight & sharp
After reading lens reviews,it was a choice between the 18-35mm or the Nikon 16-35mm VR lens. I chose the 18-35mm over the 16-35mm mainly because of the price and although VR is good for hand holding, this lens will be used with my Nikon D3s and since the D3s has excellent high iso performance, I didn't think not having a VR would be a handicap when hand holding, anyway you can always use a tripod. One of the reasons for purchasing it was to use i... Show More

Sharp and Versatile
Overall I am very pleased with this lens, which I use on my D800E for street photography, interiors and some architecture. The zoom range is more versatile than I would have thought. It is rapidly becoming my favorite lens. The lens is quite sharp but suffers from vignette and barrel distortion when used at the wide end of the zoom range and/or maximum aperture. Close focus (less than 10 inches at 18mm!) further exaggerate these effects. Distorti... Show More

Great on crop sensor. FF not great.
With all due respect to those giving this lens 5 stars on a full frame, they must not be that discerning. This lens rates 5 stars on a crop sensor, 4 stars on full frame. I check lens sharpness by photographing antique bricks, and do so at four different aperatures and different focal lengths. On the D600, full frame, the corners are quite soft wide open. Corners sharpen to acceptable limits at f/7. The center of the image is tack sharp even wide... Show More

Flexible, lightweight, sharp.
This is my daytime landscape and wide-walkaround lens for lightweight travel, paired with my Nikon D610. It's pretty darn sharp wide open, has your standard nice Nikkor color rendition, and is oh so much lighter than the 16-35mm f4 VR (not to mention considerably less expensive!). Construction is plastic, but it still feels well built and balances well on a D610. Not everything has to be made of metal! 77mm filter threads are nice, as all my filt... Show More

Great lens so far...
I bought this after much research and reading reviews. I wanted wider but it goes wide enuf for me. It turns out to be a good quality, low cost option even though, at $, I don't consider it low cost but it's all relative when you start looking at the options, 16-35, 17-35, 15-30, etc. It's a very versatile landscape lens and everything has come through looking quite sharp at both focal extremes. It's quite plasticky for the money but I don't see ... Show More

Light, sharp and economical
Already owning Nikon's 70-200mm f/2.8 VR and 24-70mm f/2.8 I thought I would eventually get the 14-24mm for the Holy Trinity package. But the thought of long hikes or street photography with all that weight made me reconsider. I then looked at the 16-35mm f/4 VR, but with the lowlight performance of my new D750, I really didn't see a need for VR. So I tried this 18-35mm and am so glad I did. What distortion there is can be taken care of in Lightr... Show More

Outstanding value
Using this on D800. Wanted something lighter than 14-24 that could use ND and polarizing filters for landscape work. Fits the bill perfectly. Outstanding color rendition, contrast, center and edge sharpness. Since I can go up to ISO 1600 on the D800 if needed, the lack of VR and 2.8 aperture isn't an issue. Also, avoids the heinous reflections from shooting the 14-24 anywhere near the sun. The 18 low end on the 18-35 isn't anywhere close to reach... Show More

4.5 Stars!
This is one of my favorite lenses. It's sharp, lightweight and has a nice range making it ideal for travel. I just love the versatility of this lens. When you want really wide you've got 18mm. If you want to shoot a portrait you've got 35mm. Paired with a Nikon fx body you can't go wrong. I'm giving it 4.5 stars because after a few months mine made a strange mechanical sound when zooming from 24 to 28mm. It was probably nothing serious but I sent... Show More

In my 15 plus years of photography experience, I have hacked my way through a few wide angle zooms. I was lucky enough to find one of these used at B&H last year when I was in NYC. I couldn't help myself, and scratch this off the wish list. Right away I was surprised a with how good it is. I didn't even make it out of the store before it was mounted on my camera. I am loving this lens, i have a nice sharp copy and for landscapes it is wonderful! For the $$ it is a great option if the 16-35 f/4 or 14-24mm f/2.8 is not in your price range. It is light weight but built well and for hiking or traveling with, it is a dream. I know it is not as well made as the other 2 lenses mentioned but it still performs wonderfully. LOVE THIS ULTRA WIDE
I wanted an ultra wide for my Nikon D750 to supplement my Nikkor 28-300. It was a decision between the Nikkor 16-35mm or this 18-35. DxO Mark says that for my D750, this 18-35 would be sharper than the more expensive 16-35mm. Wow. Also, I have a Sigma 15mm fisheye if I would, for any possible reason, need the width of a 15mm. I could straightened the distortion in post. Anyhow, this was a no-brainer. I ordered this 18-35mm and couldn't be happier... Show More

Very good lens, not the best
I tried this lens as I desperately want a lighter and smaller option. The 14-24 is just awe-inspiring, but it is 2 lbs and its huge glass attracts attention. I love it. The 16-35 is almost as good (not quite!), less expensive and 1/2 lb lighter; it is still big and heavy. I take it sometimes when I can't stomach dragging all that weight around. I tested the 18-35, and even at optimal f 5.6 and f 8 conditions, it does not take a lot of pixel peepi... Show More

Great lightweight wideangle lens for FX
Use this for cramped spaces or wide landscapes (or seascapes/skyscapes). Use it with a high resolution camera sensor when you simply don't want the weight of something more general purpose (great image quality). The light weight makes it easy to handle, but, other than landscapes, you will want to get close to your subjects for the best shots. Pair it with a nice long zoom lens (like the 28-300) to cover everything you might want to take pictures of with only two lenses. Great price and light weight make this an excellent addition for travel setups. Don't bother with this lens for DX cameras.

AF-S Nikkor 18-35 mm f/3.5-4.5 G ED lens
After reading all of the glowing consumer reviews on this lens, my plan was to replace my Tokina 17-35 f 4 lens with this lens. But after comparing this lens side by side to the Tokina I did not see enough performance improvement to replace it. The Tokina is ok and this lens is ok as well but nothing more. In the consumer reviews I saw this Nikon lens compared to the Nikon 70-200 f 4 lens but there is no comparison in my opinion ( I own the 70-200 mm lens). This lens does what it is suppose to do adequately in a smaller, lighter package. I did return the Nikon 18-35mm lens.

Wide enough and very sharp
The experts say it has vignetting and distortion, but I haven't seen any of those in normal shooting. But I can see the clarity and sharpness in every shot, even if I shoot wide open. It's light and small and nothing is moving while zooming or focusing (the front glass element is moving in and out just a fraction while zooming, but it all happens behind the filter, so no problem there) The zoom is so nicely dampened that it makes you play with it for the sheer fun. It's the most inexpensive new wide zoom from Nikon but they made it awesome (for the price) I'm happy :)
