Considering buying another one...
For quite some time i used a tripod with pen-tilt head and a gorillapod without anything... At first i bought the 496RC2 to be used on my gorillapod but shortly enough i found myself using it for both my gorillapod and tripod. It's extremely easy to attach, It has quite the strong grip and i actually find myself shooting more long-shutter photos. I think i'll buy another one...

Fabulous value - this is a great travel
I have pro tripods, light and background stands and was ready to spend $1,000 on a travel Gitzo head and legs. Turns out for 1/4 the price you get the same stability in a smaller package. The only penalty is 3oz more weight. Amazingly, I also bought the Sirui 1005x which is in every spec as good as the Gitzo for 1/5 the price! I know it's hard to believe, but do your research. I spent $ for a system that in every respect compares to a $1000 syste... Show More

Better than my expectation
This Manfrotto 496RC2 is better than my expectation for its price and functionality. I was using Benro and Induro. At the same price range, Manfrotto stays on top in term of quality and ease of use. It holds my 7D + Canon EF 24-105 F4L IS USM + 580 EX II flash without problem, even in vertical position. Definitely I will recommend this 496RC2 product.

Great with a Monopod
I wanted a good match for my Manfrotto monopod, the one rated for 22 pounds. 3 key features of a ballhead - It moves freely, it locks solidly, and it won't flop. How can you get the 1st and 3rd feature in one ballhead? Manfrotto has a tension knob that you can set according to your camera/lens. I chose this model because it was the lightest that would hold my Canon 7d at whatever weird angle. I wanted to be able to pick up my monopod! ;^) This mo... Show More

Fast Smooth Paning
I just got it and shoot my grandson's soccer game. Worked great. Never had a Ball Head to use before. Pictures turned out great. Used it with my new Manfrotto Tripod.

A good entrance level ballhead
This is my first ballhead. It feels extremely solid but at the same time, kind of heavy. Different from the 498RC2, this ballhead does NOT have an individual lock for panning. As that being said, I wouldn't recommend this ballhead to those who likes doing videos.

cheap
Looking for a cheap manfrotto quality head that was good for both photo and video. Went with this one over the 700 and the 701, both of which I think I liked the movement of more. Chose this one because it has a quickrelease, whereas the others require sliding. One annoyance is the direction of switching your camera from landscape to panoramic - make sure you check your horizon lines because it's not always flat or 90 degrees - just a little bit off. Solid.

Quick and easy to use!
Always nice to have a product that is easy to use out of the box. My favorite feature is the quick release plate. I just leave the plate attached to my camera so I can easily reattach it to my tripod when needed. Just wished the ball head was a little lighter. I have a carbon fiber tripod and the ball head seems like the weak link in matters of weight.

K.I.S.S. for my first tripod head. A little stiff at first then loosens up in a while. This will be with me for a while.

Sturdy and dependable
I purchased this for use with the Glidetrack Pro SD when shooting video. I didn't necessary need a pan&tilt head , so i went with this. It works great. The build is strong and definitely quality (wouldn't expect otherwise from Manfrotto). It works like a charm for pushing the camera rig along the glide track and the benefit of the bullhead is that quickly adjusts to make your camera level, and quickly locks into place by releasing the grip lever.... Excellent Ball head, sturdy and flexible
I am using this ball head with Slik Pro 700 DX replacing its 3-way pan/tilt head. It fits well and works perfect. I liked this combination and serves my purpose. I'm using this tripod with Canon Rebel XSi camera along with Canon 24-105mm, Canon 70-300mm, Canon 100mm lenses without any issue.

Excellent Quality and Value
Lightweight and compact but holds onto my camera a death grip. Perfect for travel with my D90.

Solid, and a joy to experience
I wasn't sure that a quarter turn on a lever could secure my Canon 7D, 70-200mm f4L and the 430EX II flash - and at any angle. But it does. And the single handed safety release makes me feel more secure because it can't accidentally fall out. I use this for still with my Manfrotto XPROB tripod.

Stury and Flexible Exactly When Needed
Being fairly new to photography, I used to think that as long as I could adjust the legs of a tripod, I wouldn't need a ballhead whatsoever. As I started getting into situations where time was of the essence, the importance of a ballhead became increasingly clear to me. Twisting two knobs and moving the plate is infinitely better than fidgeting with the legs of your stabilization, and the 496RC2 allows for just that. What's more, the ballhead is ... Show More

Great for landscape photography!!
I bought this along with a Manfrotto tripod over 2 years ago and it is still functioning as it did when new. It does take some getting used to. Once it's set it does not move, it can go from horizontal to vertical in one quick motion. I use it with a Sigma 50-500 heavy telephoto lens & a D5000 as well as a D70 and a 50 macro and both work great! It is very stable and can adjust fairly quickly. I would recommend it to any photographer.

Just the right price point
I originally bought a Manfrotto 294 with a panning head, then returned it for the 055 legs and this 322 head. This ball head with the joystick is a real pleasure to use. I'm an advanced amateur, and it is great that manfrotto makes professional gear at a realistic price point for people like me. At least for me, the big drawback of the 294 was the panning head and the quick release which wasn't quick for me. This head is just great. Fast and very... Show More

Positioning Your Camera is a Breeze
The trigger grip allows for quick positioning of your camera. The bubble level is a nice feature. I was impressed with the ability to precisely position the camera exactly the way you want.

Improved from 486RC2
I put this head on my 190CX3 mainly for traveling. Before I bought the 496RC2, I have the 486RC2, Using my DSLR shooting vertical shots was a big problem . The ball head locking is not strong enough to hold the load side way. But the 496RC2 improves and addresses this problem. It has a much stronger hold on the ball head and it has no problem holding my camera side way shooting a vertical shot.

Great addition to the 190CX3 Tripod
Very useful and easy to use. I can easily turn the knobs to gracefully reposition my camera to whatever angle I may beed. The quick release plate easily attaches to my camera and has a firm hold Bought it with the Manfroto 190CX3 tripod. Great combo.

good for the money
I use this head on a mono pod with a Nikon d300 and a couple of heavy lenses, so far so good, the only trouble I have, is mounting the camera back to the ball head but that's just me, Im not used to this ball head

Satisfied customer
I use this for all general photography, a nice well built ball head... quite compact yet can hold a decent amount of weight for sure. Not the easiest to adjust quickly, but it's still very useable. If you are going to be doing a lot of panning or following action with a big lens on a tripod however, this is not the head for you...

Great accessory
Great with the right tripod; excellent for locking in just the right angle for a still if you have some time to setup. Would not really use for video requiring any motion in any spherical coordinate vector with a non-zero phi component (good for pan but not tilt in video mode I guess?)
