Sweet little head!
Love this head! Compact size makes it perfect for digital SLR on a tabletop tripod. Finally a graceful way to pan while shooting video with my Nikon D7000. The feel is surprisingly solid. Getting a smooth pan takes a little practice as this is not really a fluid head, it just has variable resistance. But if you're careful, you can pull off some nice pans that would that would otherwise require a bulkier setup. The quick release fits nicely with the other Manfrotto heads in my collection, allowing me to move smoothly between devices.

I've found the tripod I've been looking for my whole life!
After many years of being frustrated w/my tripod, I did much research and talked to many patient salesmen @ B&H and found this one. It's sturdy, easily holds my Canon and its 400mm lens. I use it for taking pictures of eagles and finally am getting sharp images. I love the ease & quickness with which I can attach the camera to the tripod, as well as the smooth horizontal panning. There are 3 bubble levels to check, the legs extend and lock in place very easily using your thumb.Leave it to the Italians to make a tripod a work of art!

MT055CXPRO4 Manfrotto Tripod Review
I recently purchased this tripod for the purposes of both fashion/portrait/landscape photography. It is a very sturdy tripod. I was choosing between this and the tripod below which was a bit cheaper but for the extra $ this was definetely the right choice. The legs are easy to manage and I love the 90 degree feature that allows you to rotate the head. It is fairly light weight which is perfect for travel purposes too. I would suggest this tripe for anyone looking for versatility that is still in a decent and affordable price range.

This is a GREAT ball head; wonderfully and simply designed (they go together no?) and beautifully finished. I use it on top of my Sirui P-326 monopod for greater flexibility than the one-axis head afforded me and it fits like a glove (the bottom of the head is aligned perfectly with the top of the monopod, not that that matters, but it looks like it was made for it). I use it with pretty big lenses, the Canon 24-105 and the 70-300 and there is no slipping with the useful tension knob. This is a real gem that you are sure to enjoy.

Excellent Ball Head
I tried several different Giottos heads and was dissapointed (the knobs were easy to confuse which did what and the head would droop under weight. I was going to get the larger version of this Manfrotto head, but found that this one supported more than enough weight (Nikon D300s, Grip, Flash, and most lenses, combined only weight 9lbs). Plus, there is only two controls on this (verses 3 on the larger model). In reality, you only need the one knob to tighten and loosen. This is a great desing and well built. Awesome price as well.

Easy movements
Solidly built, easy to use, unlike other heads you don't have three different ways to adjust it. Just one simple trigger. I have mine installed so it sits vertically with the trigger up and down, seems to be the best for having easy access to the trigger. The only problem is when I go vertical with the camera it puts alot of stress on the head and tripod, so much the head will loosen and slide, but I am using a heavy Canon markII, sometimes with flash. Using the head mounted horizontally woulld remedy this, does that make sense?

Gone through 3 in less than 2 years
Thats right. Ive had 3 different ones and they all failed. The first one worked fine until I wanted to tighten the legs a bit and realized that the screws were are stripped. The second one I had for 6 months, then one day on a shoot, I go to extend the legs and one of them just falls off. The third one I had for 3 months when the same thing happened and the leg fell off. I even put it back on, tightened the screw and it still fell off the next day after 3 hours of use. In my book this tripod is unreliable and very disappointing.

Way better than anticipated
This is my first Ballhead, I got it on the recommendation of a couple of books on photography .... I got it to replace my 30 year old tilt/pan head on my old Slik u212. This Ballhead is excellent, very easy to use, very strong, great bang for the buck. It easily holds my K20d with any lens I've put on it. I highly recommend it to anyone looking to upgrade from a tilt/pan who doesn't want to spend a ton of cash. Another plus is that it can be used by a righty or lefty, set up for a righty but can be quickly modified for a lefty.

Excellent 3 Way Head
I use the MHXPRO-3W head with a Manfrotto 190XPRO3 tripod and I use it for landscape, portrait and general photography. The head is very compact with the handles retracted, it make storage and transport much easier. The tilt and pan functions are very smooth and much easier to control than a ball head at least for me. I upgraded to this head after using a ball head for a short period of time. The ball head was a bit too finicky for me. The XPRO-3W is a pleasure to use and seems to be very durable. I highly recommend this head.

Great for everyday and travel use
I'm relatively new to photography. Recently purchased my first full-frame (5D-IV) and in the process of teaching myself Lightroom. One of the things I noticed is I'm rarely in any photographs...because I'm taking them. Well after some research and consultation with friends I went with the MT055 with ball head. (I also purchased the MBAG75PN for easier transport) This stand is superb for my needs and suits my application perfectly. The quality of this stand provides peace of mind for years to come. I highly recommend this kit.

Works for me
This is the first ball head I've purchased and it's amazing. I was used to the standard pivoting, flip type head which comparatively is clunky and not as versatile. This ball head allows me to zero in on the perfect position and fix the position in one turn of a knob. Other heads I've seen have several knobs or levers but the 496RC2 has the one knob for fixing the camera in position. The quick release plate works like a charm. I am very happy with this tripod head. For such a compact head it feels sturdy and clamps very well.

No regrets!
This has so far been a great tripd head. I have it paired with the 190XPROB legs. The 496 is a great size and seems to have no problem supporting my Rebel body and a lens in the 70-200 size range. I plan to upgrade like most do to a 7d or something similiar and I believe I will have not problems with this head at that point. I can rave enough about how great the quick release plate QR2 is. As for the head itself I love the addition of the friction knob as well, it makes fine tuning the position of the lens that much easier.

Great Tripod
I do a lot of landscape photography, waterfalls etc and storm photos, These types of photos require to me to sometimes hike some distance to gain good vantage points for the best photos and having a good tripod for long exposures, Having the Manfrotto Carbon Fiber tripod has made the hiking miles so much easier. It is loads lighter than my previous aluminum tripods and it is strong and sturdy and easy to set up and fold down. It is a little more expensive, but having the right tool for the job is essential. Two thumbs up!

Nice Medium sized Tripod
Very well made with lots of features. Highly recommend this for a medium duty tripod. My only issue is that when you extend the smallest leg, it can have some vibration. I would recommend the 3 section version over this 4 section one. It should be more stable fully extended. I have not seen one of these in carbon fiber, that that version might be more stable. I am used to heavier tripods, and I really like this one for its lighter weight. I would just use the timer or remote release when using this and you should be fine.

Ballhead at price point that doesn't bust your stones
This is a good value for the money. It's not snooty enough to satisfy gear head aficionados but it is good enough to simply do its job. When I received the ball head, the allen screw in the top was loose. I tightened it up and now it is operating as advertised. I do my best to buy gear that has a chance of earning its keep and this ballhead is at a price point that it has a chance of making its money back. If you shoot portraits all the time in studio, you probably want a fancier piece of gear but this is fine for now.

Leg Angle Locks = Broken Nails
90% of this tripod is great. Light, strong, easy to get up and down. That 90 column lock is DECE, but... The flattening legs... the angle locks. I havent been able to get them to work at all. Its almost like theyre defective compared to how easy the rest of the tripod is to deal with. I tried my best to get them to work, but ended up breaking off my left thumbnail. It seems I may not be strong enough to activate them, which is really strange to me, that the hardware would require that kind of pressure to function.

Awesome Ball Head!
I love this ball head. I only wish it was .5 lbs lighter. I use this with my 290cxpro4 and the whole setup weighs under 4 lbs! This ball head is very firm and very stable. My only caveat is that the lock for the quick release doesn't stay in the unlock position like on my 322rc2. I guess it is good because it is always in lock position meaning your camera will never fall, but it is just a small minor inconvenience.The clamp is strong by the way! Good enough for a full camera setup. 5d II with kit lens and 580ex II!

Perfect? Yes.
The beautiful engineering has been repeatedly mentioned by many others. I agree. I'm writing to question some of the negative comments from some reviewers. Specifically, some have mentioned that the handle is set up for right handed use, which interferes with virtually every camera's right handed shutter release. I don't understand that complaint. The release handle is easily converted to left handed use with the enclosed Allen wrench and the enclosed (simple) instruction manual. It took me no more than 5 minutes.

Very solid ball head
Bought this to use it with the Manfrotto 190CXPRO3 carbon fiber tripod. It attaches very firmly to it and it's very stable. Has a good range of motion and the ball tensioner comes very handy. The clamp handle can be conveniently re-oriented. Compared to the older model that I also own, the quick-release plate safety was redesigned, now the plate cannot be accidentally released. It's a great entry-level ball head, with solid build quality. About the only negative thing I can say about it that it is slightly heavy.

Good for slow photography
I commonly do not use a tripod for my photography, so take that as a grain of salt. I have a reasonably good Oben ball head, but found that when I needed the camera very carefully and accurately aimed (e.g. architecture), it was too easy to get it wrong. The Manfrotto 3-way is much better in this respect, though you need time to get it set right. I appreciate having BOTH. I gave it 4 stars because an Arca-Swiss quick release plate would have been better--then I wouldn't have had to switch both heads and plates.

Great product, Great value!
I use this ballhead with my Manfrotto 3011BN tripod, it seems like a match made in heaven! I use it primarily for long exposures at large F# for great depth of field. The motion is really smooth and with only a little clamping force the head pans very well. I really like the adjustable tensioner and wouldn't recommend a ballhead without one. Its grip is strong and holds my camera/lens very firm. I also like the quick mount, it works really well on and off. All in it is a very good product at a reasonable price.

Fast and accurate!
I use this product for macro and products (accessories, watches etc). It's very accurate, and easy to handle.The disadvantage is that you have to use it whitout battery Grip. With a 100mm macro it is heavy i portrait, and to avoid creep I removed the Battery Grip. The claim the ballhead supports 11 lbs (5 kg) is a true with modification, in landscape position, yes. In portrait position, I would rather say 3,5 kg. It works excellent with Canon 5D, Nikon 700 and similar cameras. I use it with a 100mm 2,8 macro.

Well built... solid tripod
The Manfrotto 055 with MHXPRO 3-way pan/tilt head is exactly what I was looking for. Rock solid, and the 3 bubble levels are really helpful in getting the true horizon and all aspects correct. How many times have we assumed we leveled the frame to the horizon only to find out is really wasnt. This becomes foolproof with the Mancrotto 055. Smooth operation with vertical, tilt and pan functions with the MHXPRO 3W head. A bit heavier than I anticipated (tripod and head), but I love the solid results. Worth it!!

Perfect for my monopod
I bought this ball head for several reasons... -it was light-it was inexpensive-it was rated to be able to handle my Canon 6d/grip and 70-200 2.8 IS II-most importantly I was told it would allow me to keep the quick release plate on the foot of my 70-200 collar. For some reason the foot was too big to be able to fit into some of the other tripod heads I had so when this one worked out I was extremely pleased. Panning on my monopod didn't matter to me so the fact that this one won't do that wasn't a big deal.
