I just buy these for whatever cameras I plan to use with my Giotto monopod and leave them attached to the base of my cameras ready to insert to the pod whenever I need to. I also like that they add a little weight to my lighter compact digital cameras, whether or not I'm using the monopod. There's a little notch in the base, which can't be seen in the one photo, into which the screw can be screwed to ensure no twisting of the camera in the pod. Sounds good to me.
