Seagate 3TB Expansion Desktop USB 3.0 External Hard Drive

Does the Job
I use this to simply store images in all formats, and some documents. It is stationary and not subject to periodic movement. It does the job as expected. I have other Expansion drives that all do the job and at a fraction of the cost of other units. Speed is not important for this function.

Nice extenal option
Five stars for the price/performance ratio. Not the fastest, not the most expensive. It's really a good option for what I'm using it for which is an external Linux file store.

Bought it on April 17 , today is June 25.. and the disk died. I use it to backup my computer mainly photos. I desperately disappointed.

Great price for 8tb
paid 179 for this drive. Great price compared to the WD or Lacie options. It is a great storage device for my still and or Video storage between jobs. Pretty good for editing with 4k proxy in FCXP or PrPCC.

Seagate has this down...
I was in the market for a desktop drive and chose the 3TB Seagate, knowing a bit about their history and reputation. I can't tell you how easy the hook-up was. Two chords and my computer auto-recognized the drive, a few clicks later and I was up and running. It was a three minute process! Now all my thousands of photos and music are backed-up and I am very happy with the price and ease-of-use. Seagate has a great product. Loving it.

Works great after a couple of weeks
Very satisfied, seems sturdy. Works great after a couple of weeks, of course we'll have to wait and see after a year or two.

Works fine!
Works fine, setup was a breeze. Hoping for good longevity as it is a personal cloud device shared by multiple computers.

GARBAGE!
Unit suddenly lost power, will not restart, (NO Power) ALL our back-up GONE!! Seagate should be ashamed for producing such a poor quality product. Now to RMA it back, we have to pay out of pocket, were done with Seagates Expansion Desktop Drives. NEXT Western Digital and HGST, hopefully we have better luck. we handle these items with kid gloves and to have them abruptly fail is sad.

Affordable drive that does the job.
This is my 2nd purchase for this model drive. Haven't had any issues with them so far. I had to format these before using, which takes about 24 hours, which helps insures my writing on these later without errors. I'm using these on my server to store movies on my Plex, which I haven't had any lag or hesitations on movies when watching them. They do rattle a little at times when reading/writing but not enough to bother me. The drives do run a litt... Show More

Huge storage, a snap to install
I just installed a pair of these on my iMac to support various photo and video projects. It's too early to say much about reliability, but so far so good! They worked right out of the box, though I reformatted them for use on a Mac (a quick and easy operation). One thing I wondered about before purchase that I can clarify in case you're wondering too. B&H has a photo for the 8 TB model that shows it smooth and horizontal, whereas all the smaller ... Show More

Lot's of video goes here.
Worked with WD for a long time then a Seagate drive has outlasted all my drives. I DJed with it. So it wasn't treated kindly. Bought it about 2010 or so and it it still going strong. That made me rethink my allegiance to WD. AS ADVERTISED this is being a fine drive. HIghly recommended. If it last 5 years or more you have me for life.

So far a happy externsl Seagate user.
I do video production work, currently completing a documentary on a haunted attraction (using footage from the past 20 years). Footage runs from VHS-C, DVcam, 1080p HD to 4K. I needed to store backup. Price was very good with B & H, plus quick delivery. So far, everything is as it should be. Reason I always buy from B & H.

I would buy this product again.
I was very surprised that I connected up the 8TB hard drive external for additional storage and it came right up with the computer recognizing the full 8TB. The last time I brought on additional storage it was nightmare trying to get the computer to see the full 3TB it only showed 1TB. As soon as it was up I started downloading big movie files I have and the new hard drive took it all. Took 15 hours to download with no problems I was impressed.

Basic workhorse for backups and archival storage
If you are considering the purchase of a new hard drive, think about what tasks you expect from the drive and how you intend to use it. I do not expect this to be the fastest drive and do not utilize it as a daily scratch disk. Purchased as a network backup and archival storage, this drive is perfect for that task. Unlike other reviews, I have found zero issues with the drive or included power and cables. Plug. Play. Archive.

Not a fast drive, but good price for a drive this size
This drive is being used as a backup drive for a Mac Pro and has USB 3.0/2.0 connection only. The performance seems to be in line with a 5400 rmp drive, and very quite. Warranty only being one year is of a concern, so I wouldn't really on this as a single backup solution, but rather as a fall-back drive.

Nice USB drive for backup and other storage
I use this drive mainly as storage for backups. I also use it for general storage (photos, videos, etc). It is fast and easy to use. I've had it about one month and it has been flawless during that time. Time will tell as to its reliability. However, as of now, I can highly recommend this drive.

Data Corruption
I experienced data corruption when using cables other than the very short cable the drive ships with. Maybe I have bad cables but they seem to work fine with other drives.
