Seagate 3TB Expansion Desktop USB 3.0 External Hard Drive
Seems great so far!
I've only had my drive for a few weeks however as soon as I got it I ran all of the usual tests like S.M.A.R.T. and short/long read/write tests and it passed them all. I wrote about 5TB of backups to the drive over the first couple days and had 0 issues with it at all. Drive isn't loud and when writing to it at batches of about 250-500GB at a time it barely heated up. Assuming it lasts this will likely be the hard drive I keep buying as/if I end up needing more space!

Wont Mount
Tried to get this drive to mount on 3 of my Macs (running 10.13.3) to no avail. Maybe I just got a bad one?

This is a great product for those who need extra storage and on the go. The read and write data transfer speed isn't all that fast or great but it gets the job done for massive storage. Effective way to expand storage
For context, I am using a Linux mini desktop as my primary home platform. I reformatted the drive with the EXT4 file system. It is one of 4 expansion drives in my configuration. 2 of the other expansion drives are backups (using rsync), while this and one other drive are my primaries. best cost per reliable byte
my use: RAID-1 mirror to a pair of Seagate 4TB desktop drives (ST4000DM). Used to store and stream HD video. Withstands very heavy use. Doing The Job It Was Intended To Do
Bought two of these as part of a migration from Mac to PC for photo and video work. I haven't noticed a noise issue as some have mentioned, no noisier than the computer fans. Best speeds so far have been between 100-110 MB/s. We'll see how they do over time.

Solid
Have only been using it for a month but so far, so good. It is smaller than I expected and also winds down to sleep mode once my back up is complete so I don't have to worry about powering it off and on. Overall, it serves it purpose w/o hassle. I would buy it again.

Works Great
I purchased several of these drives for for image backups. The USB 3 speed is significantly faster than USB 2 and DVD writing, and the single drive is infinitely more convenient than having to use multiple DVDs.

It is indeed a bit too loud.
Before buying it, I saw many reviews saying it is very loud. But since I do not use it as a cloud storage, so I don't really care if it is a bit loud. Speed is good enough I believe.The speed between USB 3.0 storage transferring large files usually starts at 150m/s, then goes down and stabilizeat 100m/s. Hard drive storage

Doesn't work on all my computers
Would be a great product if it worked on all my computers. It only works on one of my 3 computers at home, (It's not a USB 3 issue, they all have USB 3)

Seagate stands up for their products.
I am a professional photographer. I have been buying Seagate drives to back up my clients projects. The drives work and the price is fair. What else is there to say. However, I have a story to tell. I always work with two drives at a time. One of the drives failed two weeks ago. The drive was out of warranty. Seagate had me send them the drive to check out. They replaced it with a working drive. Now that is a stand up company!

Easy to use
I haven't had the Seagate 3tb External Hard drive long; I transfer photos once a month, so my initial transfer went smoothly with no problems. The only reason I'm giving a 4 star is because I haven't used much yet.

I bought 3 units of this 8T since May 16 and Jun 17
I use them for my high-density music files such as iso;dsf;dff;flac;wav...etc., and using it directly play music files daily. Their normal speed for copying are between 90 to 150 MHz....So far so good! Reliable! B & H is the most reliable seller in the World....

Good value for large, relatively slow storage.
I'm using this as a big local backup drive for a 5TB and a 2TB working drive. It serves well for this purpose. Like others have said, transfers tend to start off fast and then settle into slower speeds. This makes it fine for backup, but probably not recommended as a working drive for photo/video editing. Drive noise is negligible. Will the drive eventually fail? Who knows, but most drives eventually fail - that's why I got this one as a backup after all! At least this one's relatively cheap so replacement won't break the bank.

Works as expected
Using it as a backup location for all my data. It does give out a bit more noise compared to my older 5TB external hard drive, but have not observed any issue with performance yet.
