Canon PowerShot G5 X Digital Camera Deluxe Kit

Canon G5X
The G5X is a very small camera. I used an Olympus OM-1, and that was small by film SLR standards. This is even smaller. A lot of buttons on the cam that are easy to accidentally hit. But the small size makes it convenient to carry around. Best thing about it is the manual controls. You can change f stops by turning a large ring around the lens...imagine that! The shutter speed can be changed by a small dial on the front of the cam, similar to Nik... Show More

A Pleasure to Use Such a Quality Product
This Canon G5X replaces my 7 year old Canon G9. I am a pro photographer and use Canon 5D Mark III, so, I am used to quality images and at high ISO. My G9 could not even come close to producing usable images at ISO 1600, its maximum. The G5X on the other hand produced great looking images at ISO 5000, f/4, 1/60 sec. They would make good prints. I am so impressed. The camera feels like quality when I handle it. The menu systems are well thought thr... Show More

A mini-pro camera for real world use
Are 6 stars available? How do they get colors this rich into a camera this small? I hear comments about it not being good in low light. Huh? I have taken night shots in many real world situations and pull detail out of shadows. Colors, features, usability, are all incredible and ready for pro. I compared it to the Sony RX100 IV which a friend of mine has. That takes beautiful photos too. For my needs, the design and build of the Canon are more li... Show More

Great photos, mediocre instruction manual
I use this to take photos during my travels. The camera takes great photos. I like its High Dynamic Range feature where it takes 3 consecutive photos at different brightness levels. This is great for those scenes with extremes as to lights and shadows. I like its ability to store both RAW and jpg photos simultaneously with a single shot. However, the instruction manual that comes with the camera (G5 X Getting Started Manual) is incomplete & vague... Show More

A very good small caamera
I just got mine a couple of days ago. My initial reaction is generally positive. I mostly shoot 5D Canon SLRs and gave used Powershots G8-16 as my pocket cameras. I think that the G5X is a better bet for me than the Powershot Gs but it will not come close to replacing a SLR. I like the larger sensor on the G5X. With the Gs, noise at 1600 ISO is not really acceptable. With the G5X, 1600 images seem quite good and they are quite useable at 3200. I ... Show More

Great Pocket Camera packed with Features!
So far, I am really enjoying this camera. I have been shooting Canon DSLRs and a Canon RP mirrorless for several years, and wanted something smaller as an easy take along camera I could fit in my purse. However, I didn't want to give up all the features I was used to with my other cameras. Some of the things I was looking for were: viewfinder (screens are hard to see in bright sunlight), shooting RAW (to make editing more fulfilling), 1 inch sens... Show More

Great compact camera
I upgrade from my old Canon G12 to this G5X. The body was much more compact than the pictures suggested to me. I was pleasantly surprised by the EVF. It isn't constantly on. There's a sensor that turns on the EFT when your face gets close. I did have to remember not to activate the sensor when holding the camera backwards for selfies. The EVF is bright, has all the useful settings info, and even shows the photo review. I always thought an EVF on ... Show More

Awesome Little Camera
This is truly an awesome little camera. I have owned several G series cameras and this is by far the best one I've used to date. I tend use these cameras when traveling, or anytime I just don't want to carry a lot of gear (ie a DSLR and a bag full of lenses). It is very easy and intuitive to operate with plenty of control options. It is small, compact yet it handles like a dream. The electronic viewfinder is great and really adds to the cameras h... Very Satisfied
My normal cameras are a 70D and 7D Mk II. I've wanted a decent pocket camera to complement those two. I tried a G1X II and a G3X. The add-on EVF for those cameras made them not pocketable, and it also consumed the hot shoe. The G5X is close to perfect for me. The built-in EVF is great. The little flip-up flash works surprisingly well, but there's a hot shoe for a larger flash when needed. Image quality is not in the DSLR category, but it's very g... Show More

PowerShot G5X has everything I need
The Canon G5X is the closest replacement for my G11. I do not buy camera very often and the G5X has the same features as the G11 but with much better picture quality and HD Video. Others are concerned with 4K video and I don't see the need for a small camera. The G5X can record 1 hour of HD video without overheating and doesn't shut down after 5 minutes or so like the Sony cameras are reported to do. I like the thickness of this G5X so there is s... Not a substitute for my DSLR
I bought the G5 x as a walk around camera and for travel. I wanted something small and light and easy to carry that would capture Canon RAW images. Usually I use a Canon DSLR with Llenses. The PowerShot is small and light and feels solid. The Electronic Viewfinder is excellent. I like that the captured image is displayed in the EVF for a few seconds, so no need to check the LCD after a shot. The controls are extensively programmable and it took m... Show More

G5X has what is missing on G1X
I bought the G5X specifically for its really nice EVF (Electrictronic View Finder), which is extremely useful in bright noonday Texas sun when the LCD is blacked out by bright light. The G1X had an OVF (Optical View Fnder) which was better than nothing, but the lens protruded into the left side of the view when using the OVF. The EVF is sllightly smaller than expected, but works great. The settings are familiar if one has ever used a Canon G seri... Show More

Great photo paper for the price
The Canon Semi-gloss Photo Paper is the best paper I've used for this price range. I've used it for an exhibition, sold prints printed on this paper, family photos, etc, when art papers weren't practical. The Canon Pixma Pro printers can only make borderless prints with their own brand photo papers, using their Print Studio Pro plugin, which gives it an advantage over other papers. Colors print well on the paper, but not as vibrant as the fine ar... Show More

Quick and sharp, but a little finicky
I've turned out some fabulous full bleed 13x19s on this printer with no problems. Though like any fancy printer it does have occasional hiccups - printing stopping anywhere between 5 and 95 percent of the way through, failing to start, etc. I have not done any B&W prints so can't speak to quality there but from low-saturation areas of color prints it looks like they'd be nice. I found it printed rather brighter than what I see on my screen (not a... Show More

GET PROFESSIONAL-LOOKING IMAGES
I use this paper with a Canon Pixma MG8120 printer. It is my opinion that my best chance for great color in paper is when used with the same brand of printer. Inks and the paper used are made to give the best advantage. And that's definitely true in this case. The paper has a good weight and feels and smells like professional paper. With some paper and printers of other brands, the ink sits on top of the paper. You can feel it. Not so with Canon.... Show More

Does everything!
I've waited to review this camera until I'd used it for a quite a while. I began by taking it as my only camera (I also have a Nikon D800) on a 5-week trip to Argentina. Now it's the camera I just throw in my purse or knapsack every day. There's a lighter version without the electronic viewfinder, but I wanted that viewfinder and I'm glad I got it. I was initially sorry the zoom only went to 100 but it's really not a problem if you have even the ... Show More

Better than Expected
I have waited a long time for a decent pocket camera with a suitable viewfinder and low light capabilities. The G5X delivered on these as well as many other features that I have learned to appreciate the more I use it. It is a great companion to take along trips and events. Only down side is that I still have to tote my T5i equipped with my heavy, but still wonderful, 28-300 L series, lens to have a decent zoom along. Other than the lack of zoom,... Show More

Great little P & S
This is a great little camera - very solid build, lots of controls, and great image quality. Based on reviews, it seems there may in fact be slightly better P & S's for image quality - like the most recent Lumix or Sony models. But it's a series of trade-offs, and I choose to have a slightly longer lens, smaller body (compared to the Lumix), permanent viewfinder, more on-body controls, an articulating LCD touch screen, and a better menu system. A lot of camera in a small package
I agree with other reviewers that this camera is not perfect but it's pretty darn close. It's small so big hands make some controls awkward .. the electronic viewfinder does kick out the LCD display too easily (perhaps controlling the range of that is the answer). But it's loaded with features and has great specs that make it a great camera for getting quick shots for videographers; pretty wide on the zoom, a smooth zoom that feathers versus slap... Show More

Very good pictures! After some practice and experimenting I have gotten familiar with all the options and can navigate quickly through the menu (quick menu is GREAT) to get to the functions I like to use. Nice little camera
Decided I needed a back-up to my 5DIII for a recent trip plus wanted a smaller walk-around rig for those times when I didn't feel like lugging the big boy. Camera takes wonderful images, shooting both jpeg and RAW. Not concerned about continuous shooting as that's saved for the 5D. Controls are Canon like, so getting use to the menus wasn't an issue. I've just started to bond with one of these, but I can already tell you it's everything I've hoped for in a truly pocketable camera. It struck me as being a bit smaller than expected (no complaints) when it came out of the box, but it feels solid, has a ton of controls for fine-tuning exposure and accessing menus right at your fingertips, has a nice 24-100mm range in a fast lens, and produces very clean, detailed images at 800 ISO in low light an...
