Returning Due to Battery Life

Jan 25, 2016

Fantastic camera all around with one MAJOR PROBLEM: Battery Life. I gave this camera two weeks to see if I could get myself to overlook this HUGE FLAW, but I couldn't get over it. I come from a beastly Canon 5Ds and Canon 6D. Was trying to move on from these due their size. I shoot travel photography the most, but I'm going to stay with my Canon gear. I simply can't afford to lose 1% point per minute having the camera turned on. I tried the Airpl... Show More

Great quality images; software useless; battery useless

Jan 7, 2020

I'm considering a return even though the images are very top notch and the functionality and control is pretty amazing. Why? The battery for video is next to useless. It lasts about 45 minutes from full charge. To add insult to injury, you have to charge it in the camera because for some reason a $900 camera doesn't have an included battery charger. Worse still, while it's charging you can't connect to AC power and continue to use the camera, fo... Show More

Almost great

Mar 2, 2015

I'd been holding out for this - but I'm let down now. To switch from manual focus to any auto focus mode, you've got to go through the menus. Crazy, especially since the auto focus is inconsistent and slow. The kit lens is really among the worst kit lenses around, full of distortion even at 70mm, and just not really sharp. I bought a metabones 4 adapter for my Canon lenses, but found that unlike their advertising, the Canon lenses just hunt - and... Show More

excellent for old manual lenses

Dec 27, 2016

The niche that this camera fills is a relatively-compact camera with a full frame sensor, which is easily adapted to nearly any lens system out there, plus image stabilization on the Mark II. It fills this mission very, very well. The cons are minor and don't interfere with that fundamental function: - Battery capacity is small and you need to have spares around. - The EVF switches on using a sensor when you put the camera up to your eye. Best Mirrorless Full Frame Camera Under $900

Dec 31, 2019

This was my first non-point and shoot camera. I decided on getting an alpha 7ii after much deliberation on the purchase. For under a $1000, the bundle B&H provided was a no brainer. As of writing, there is no other camera manufacturer that is able to match the price range of this power house without compromising on what it can deliver. 1) 5 axis image stabilization 2) Full Frame CMOS sensor 3) 28-70/f3.5-f5.6 (FOR FREE) 4) Lens cleaning kit 5)... Mar 27, 2015

Just returned my A7 mk2. Out of the box I was surprized how heavy it is, just 5 onces less than my Nikon D750, and considering that the lenses are all pretty much the same weight as my Nikon lenses (50mm and 70-200 f4 are identical in size and weight) I can't see much advantage. I had really hoped to use this body for my Leica lenses but it's such a hassle to focus wide open then close the lens down to shoot. ok if you're on a tripod but any sort... Show More

Think it's great

Jun 20, 2019

It is a little heavier than I thought it would be but really enjoy using it. I have used it for video and stills. In the photos uploaded I used a Meyer-Optik Gorlitz P58 58mm f/1.9 Lens. They were my test shots with the set up. I think the quality is great. I don't have my portable drive with me or I would load up with my regular lenses rather than the Gorlitz. Great camera at current price for right use

Mar 20, 2018

Now the A7II is being eclipsed by the A7III, is this still a valid choice at $1,000? For some people, yes! I am only using MF lenses. 5FPS is plenty, mostly only shoot in single mode anyhow. 24MP is all the resolution I need or want. The EVF of the A7III is not any better than the one in the A7III. I don't use the video camera in the A7II. What does this camera offer? 5 axis IBIS is nice both for the ability to handhold at slower speed an... Show More

Love it

Jan 9, 2017

At first I was hesitant to jump ship but to me Sony really isn't much of a learning curve imo, and is easy to learn the system. I've been using Metabones Fd adapter and been enjoying it quite a bit. Looking forward to other legacy options down the line! Shots that I've taken are incredible (I find I have way more keepers) and looking through the EVF to review the images blow me away. Touchless shutter is awesome (some really cool other apps too) ... Show More

Poor focusing competence under low light

Oct 19, 2016

Recently, I shifted from A7s to A7II, with the hope to make use of internal 5-axis stabilisation function. Indeed, this function is quite satisfying, particularly when I use a zoom lens like Tamron 28-300PZD, through an LAEA3 adaptor ring. The adaptor ring also works well with Sony SAL 24-70ZA lens, though not with Sigma 50ART or Minolta 24-105D. In comparison with A7s, A7II is very disappointing in the aspect of focusing under low light or back ... Show More

Good deal for the price, but batteries don't last long.

Sep 20, 2019

Is a good deal overall. The case, the sd card and the extra battery. For the price is a really good deal. Just be aware that batteries don't last that long and this deal doesn't include battery charger. You'll need to charge it from the usb port of the camera with the battery in the camera. It comes with a wall plug. Charging time is quite fast but your battery will drain pretty fast. Now, image quality is awesome! Of course you'll se difference... Show More

This thing is light, sharp, fast, and really delivers. Sony gets it right

This is a great camera. The controls are great, the software is good and the images are fantastic. I love to use my legacy prime lenses with this camera; wonderful results. I only have two gripes about this camera, which is why I give it a 4 star review instead of a 5 star. 1- The aperture and shutter dial are small and plastic and feel cheap for the rest of the camera. They are a bit to hidden and not as accessible as I would like. 2- The weight... Show More

Bought this camera and several Sony/Zeiss lenses in February 2015. On a recent trip the camera failed with the message Camera Error. Turn Power off then on. I am in love with this camera! My main kit is a 5D Mkii and a 5Ds, predominantly Sigma Art primes (24, 35, 50 and 85) and zooms 24-70 and 70-200. With filters and accessories a HEAVY kit to lug around... So, I bought the A7ii with a 24-70 f4 and the 16-35 as a travel rig and I couldn't be happier! Got this camera as a smaller everyday camera, with smaller files compared to my A99 ii (24mp vs 42mp). Its definitely smaller and lighter. Controls are all familiar. The back dial wheel (next to the exposure comp dial) is harder to operate compared to the bigger A99, and I turned the power off a couple of times trying to adjust the front dial. Love it! The camera is way nicer than I even need. But I love the features and the simplicity and the complex nature of how the photos turned out. My only beef with this camera. Is that there is no way to adjust manually the white balance without a bunch of buttons pushed. Also the exposure dial, cannot be remastered to do anything else so if I don't use it it's a waste. Worth the upgrade

Dec 19, 2015

So where do I start ? I am unsure. This is a really good camera. Did not get mine from BnH but I thought I'd give my verdict. I'm still learning even after 3 months. Paired with the 28 F2 this cam works wonders. HDR is awesome though in JPEG. Lacks a built in flash but I guess that's ok due to design. The video button is difficult to reach no idea why sony would put that there. The menus are a bit odd to get into to note I came from a NEX6. The image quality really depends on the lens at hand but so far I'm impress. I guess not all people would like this camera though due to it's quirkyness.
