The absolute best single camera I have ever owned.

Oct 28, 2015

I'm a producer/videographer who works for National Geographic and Discovery. We use Sony F7's as our primary field camera for documentaries, mostly still shooting 1080P but slowly moving to 4K. I decided to try out this camera hoping that it might be a workable B-camera to use with the F7 (with lens, a $10K+ camera). Frankly, I am blown away by the RX 10M2. It's now even moved up to A-camera status in many situations. Is it an F7? Of course not. ... Show More

Pricey but an incredible value and an incredible camera!

Feb 26, 2018

If you absolutely need a full frame DSLR, go ahead and spend the money. The only things this camera does not give you that a full frame DSLR does is wider depth of field control, faster lenses if you need them, and a greater assortment of focal length lens options. That said, this camera's lens offers a 35mm equivalent focal range of 24mm-200mm, all at f2.8. The images are stunning, and noise is almost negligible (in my opinion) all the way up t... Show More

Bought The Camera For Video

Jul 7, 2016

I bought this camera for a 4K video camera and the possibility of a single travel camera. I also have the Panasonic GH4 and Canon 5D MK2, the issues I have had with removable lens DSLR cameras are sensor spots, I do clean my camera sensors and getting sensor spots on photographs is no big thing, an easy solution is Photoshop. The pain is video especially moving shots and you see a sensor spot it's not easy to clone out of a 4K video clip. I had t... Show More

One of the best prosumer cameras on the market.

Aug 2, 2016

I bought this camera in August 2015 to capture behind-the-scene photos and videos of commercial media productions. It's incredibly versatile so I'll list the pros and cons I've experienced of using it this past year. Pros: 1) 24-200mm (35mm equivalent) f2.8 constant aperture lens that's incredibly sharp. 2) Incredible dynamic range for a camera with a 1 sensor. I can easily adjust highlights and shadows within 3 stops without creating significant... Show More

great camera...a bit expensive

I bought this camera second hand....as owner of an A7 iii anything has a bad quality next to it, and this Rx10 ii isnt different, but it al depends on what you need, this camera even thought has contrast detection focus only, has great af on both video and photo, the video quality is the best feature on this camera, is just amazing, the codecs are great, like 1080 60fps 50mbps, that quality was considered Hollywood like a few years ago, and 4k 30... A bit below expectations

Aug 11, 2015

Bought this to get decent on camera 100mbs 4k (UHD) at a good price and also eliminate typical CMOS rolling shutter problems, which supposedly this new sensor would do per Sony's claims. I wanted to shoot lightning video, which has never worked well on any CMOS rolling shutter camera. Only CCD with global shutter produces decent results, but no one is making those cameras any more. After shooting lighting for a few days, I can claim it's an impro... Show More

Quick review Sony RX10 II

Aug 5, 2015

Just received my Sony RX10 II, Sony did there homework. Really enjoying the size, weight and overall handling of the camera. The lens at 2.8 really makes the 1' inch sensor have a some nice depth of field. 24-200mm is a nice walk around lens. In the evenings I put the camera on Clear image which takes the lens from a 8.3x to 16x zoom. I find it does degrade quality some but nice to have the extra reach. The built-in electronic ND I find it adds a... Show More

On Camera video playback problem

The on camera video playback does not work properly. The normal speed playback seems to work properly but the reverse slow playback does not work properly. It does not play smoothly rather it looks to take 30 frame steps. The forward slow playback looks to work properly. In addition the display the next frame and display the previous frame functions do not work properly. They also seem to take 30 frame steps instead of single frame steps. Being a... Show More

Amazing Professional Video Setup

Feb 29, 2016

I am a digital video artist at a 4 diamond resort/casino. We regularly use RED Dragons, so I have a good eye for video quality. This camera is a BEAST! The 4k(UHD) looks superb! Yes, it is only a 1 inch sensor, but I'm completely blown away at the video quality that comes out of this thing! 4k 24/30 look amazing...low light is very very good. 1080 looks superb, and the 240fps 1080 is definitely usable! 480/960fps are more for fun or light web, bu... Fantastic Bridge Camera; Excellent Video Camera

Oct 6, 2016

I love this camera! It packs a huge punch with all of its features and abilities. It takes great photos for a 1 sensor, but it does really well with using as a video camera. I use this for weddings and other full day events. Being able to shoot 4K in 24 fps, no overheating indoors or outdoors, constant f2.8 across the entire zoom range of the lens, great 1 sensor for video, mic input and headphone output, decent zoom button, in-body stabilization... Zooming issues not being addressed

Mar 31, 2016

I a previous owner of the Sony RX10 which was an awesome camera/camcorder. It produced excellent photos and video. However, I sold it and purchased the R10II and I have to say it's terrible. While zooming in and out, the image-- both seen and recorded-- jerks and jumps as if the lens is hitting something. I've sent my camera twice out for repair and it's only come back being worse: grinding sounds while zooming, more jumping, etc. I contacted Son... Show More

I bought this camera when it first came out in August of 2015. It didn't much use until recently, after experimenting with the camera I have a problem with the lens making audible noise and jumping while zooming in or out. I contacted Sony concerning the issue and provided them a video clip showing the problem. Their was that this is considered to be quote normal operation. RX 10 II for Travel - Awesome Choice!

Nov 18, 2016

My desire and image taking for traveling has decreased to near zero in recent years with my DSLR (Nikon D750). Weight, changing lenses etc. was the reason. I seemed to have lost my life long passion for photograph. In September with an upcoming to trip to Japan, I decided after much research decided to purchase the RX 10 II. What an awesome decision! No need to buy A7Sii or A7Rii!

Nov 12, 2015

I returned my A7Sii because I can't tell the difference (using s-log2 gamma and s-gamut color space)! I don't need 5 axis stabilization, since it don't work that great anyway... The RX10ii has 960fps which does incredible slomo! I don't need s-log3 really... 800 ISO like the A7Rii and A7Sii (not 3200iso like the A7S)... Fantastic lens... ZEISS! Yeah you can't change lenses, and it's doesn't have a finesse for zoom really, but 24-200mm can do it a... Show More

Mine came from BH, with an excellent price and timely shipping. After an hour of translating the basic guide packed with the camera I ended up with this outstanding product set for Aperture Preferred mode. It handles very well, and the viewfinder - with excellent diopter adjuster - is perfect, showing 100% of the image. I use these primarally for video, at weddings and corporate events. They are my wide shot and gimbal cameras, and in those capacities they are perfect. I use them mostly in 4K, and for what they are the video is great. Not so good in low light, but not much is. I also use this as my grab and go, general use walk around photo and video machine. Nov 18, 2015

The RX10 M2 DOES provide SMPTE time code shooting XAVC video, both free run and custom set. SLOG2 (Picture Profile 7 in the default settings) is excellent, adding several stops of dynamic range. A window blown out in other profiles shows exterior detail on a bright day while handling darker interior areas of the frame perfectly. XAVC LUT's available at a variety of websites at little or no cost work very well with footage shot at SLOG2, editing o... Show More

Great piece of gear!

Jul 26, 2015

I'm really digging this camera. I purchased it to start incorporating 4k video into my workflow. But, even the HD video is pretty great. This compliments my A77 quite well, which I use more for stills. The RX's Zeiss lens is great. Sharp, and f2.8 throughout it's entire range. Does a decent job on stills, but the auto-focus is not as responsive as my A77, nor is it expected to be (IMHO). Video is where this baby shines. Gorgeous. And slow-mo opti... Show More

Amazing....I think?

Jan 10, 2016

When I started shooting with this little gem, the IQ was absolutely stunning. It was easy to figure it out because the controls are almost exactly as my Sony A7R II. I love the constant F/2.8 lens. Very helpful in low light. But after 2 days the camera did something weird - it wouldn't shut off. The red light remained on. It froze. I had to remove the battery. This happened twice. In addition, there's been some arguments about the subtle rattling... Show More

Amazing. The dynamic range with SLOG-2 is literally 12 stops in latitude. I lab tested the dynamic range with the A7s at 800 ISO and it matched the dynamic range of the A7s EXACTLY. What I expected

Jul 23, 2015

This is probably the best bridge camera out there. Got this with the intention this will be the B camera for my A7s. It should last me through the next couple years I think as a backup camera. So far, it's a great camera. Just as you'd expect. The main thing that bothers me that I did NOT expect is that the manual aperture is not a true manual aperture. While it is declicked, the RX10ii still electronically stops up or down the aperture. You will not get smooth aperture pulls. Bummer. The best thing about this camera is the 24-200mm equivalent lens. No need for lens changes on this one!

RX10ii

Aug 6, 2015

Love the camera. Three complaints though: 1) The SD card slot is incredible weird to get the card in and out. Don't forget, to use the 4K you need to get a class 10 U3 card. 2) When the camera is not actively engaging the zoom function, the lens feels loose in itself and moves around. 3) The Slow motion capture is barely usable, which was the whole point of getting it as a second shooter for action sequences. I bought a 256gig SD card with the hopes that I could choose how long I could film in HFR but no chance. If you choose quality, you only get a couple seconds so plan ahead.

Superb for close-up images and Macro photography

Nov 3, 2015

After reading a large number of positive reviews on this camera, I decided to purchase one to see for myself if the camera was really as good as the majority of the reviews indicated. I will cover only one aspect of the camera in this review - its use for close ups and macro shots. I will do this by posting some shots captured with my Sony DSC-RX10-II. All the shots were captured with the lens wide open and under ambient light conditions - no flash. The images are reduced in size for posting here. Check out the images and make your own judgements on what this camera will do.

Buyers Remorse

Sep 7, 2015

After reading several glowing reviews I was excited to get this camera and preordered one. After having it for a few weeks now I'm starting to regret it. As others have indicated the low light performance is pretty bad for video use and the lens wobble issue is quite annoying. What were they thinking? I've never sent that issue with any of my previous cameras. There are some great software/shooting features that work for stills and I have been able to get some great shots. If you're not going to shoot in slow motion I would look for something else.
