Manfrotto 391RC2 3-Way, Pan-and-Tilt Head with 200PL-14 Quick Release Plate

It simply works like it's supposed to.
I come from a video background which uses a different kind of head so this was quite comfortable for me to adapt to. I didn't want to mess with dual knobs found on a lot of ball heads. (Note: it's not meant for smooth movement and panning). So far this has held everything I can mount on it stable - right out of the box. I haven't made any tension adjustments to it and it squeezes easily. (Reports of requiring a gorilla's grip are false). I love h... Show More

Far Better than a Vertical Ball Head
I bought this new 322RC2 to replace an old vertical type grip action ball head that I had used for years. I didn't like the way the camera body was so far away from the pivot ball with the vertical grip system. This was not really a problem during landscape shots, but became a real nuisance during portrait shots. Why? Because you had all that weight just hanging out there about 8 to the side of the tripod, away from the ball pivot point. I have a... Show More

Grip Action helpful with nature-wildlife
With nature-wildlife photography, I can pan onto a subject that could move at any moment, release the grip, locking on and shooting instantly, rather than fiddling with turning a knob to lock it. I find it best, being right handed, to use it in the left-hand position, keeping my right hand ready at the shutter release. I've used it with my five-pound Sigma 50-500 lens on a Nikon D200, and even with that weight, it locks solidly and quickly, even ... Show More

Quick, easy, and safe.
I use this product with a Nikon FA, D300 w/Battery pack, and a Mamiya 645AFD to go from shooting formals to shooting action with the quick release, on both a Tripod, and Monopod. I have no complaints with this product. I find it to be a brilliant concept.

A very capable product for any photograp
I tested this on a recent trip to Arches National Park. I was using a Mamiya RZ ProII, and a Contax RTS System, as well as a Canon G9 on this Grip. The 322rc2 worked without a single problem. I hiked many miles with the Mamiya attached to the grip and tripod. It never moved! It remained rock solid throughout my use. One of the many pluses that Manfrotto has incorporated is the lockplate. I bought 4 additional Plates and attached one to each camera I had on the trip. Easy to swith between formats. This grip will fit most photographers needs who are shooting today.

Works very well
Love the grip action ball head, which locks the head in place as soon as you release the handle. Actually works pretty well for panning as well, although I don't think I'd want to squeeze it through an entire football or soccer game.

So simple a 10 yoa can use it!
I would have to tighten the clamps on my old tripod so tight that I was the only one in my family that could use it. When I got the 322RC2 from BH it was like night and day! The grip release is very easy and you can adjust the tension by just a turn of a wheel, very easy. When I said a 10 yoa can use it, I was referring to my 10 yoa daughter who was using my equipment(under nervous supervision from me) for a class project and once I secured my XT... Show More

Totally awesome
It is so easy to maneuver. It takes just a squeeze of the handle and you can rotate the ball head in just about any direction.

stiff, but versatile
This ball head can be configured so that the handle (the release mechanism which allows you to tilt, then lock, the camera in any position) can stick out to the right or to the left or stick straight up from the top of the tripod/monopod. I find the handle grip to be very stiff - even when the dial which loosens the mechanism is cranked open all the way. But rock climbers and masseuses should have no problem. It is great to be able to swing and lock the camera into any position with one (teeth-clenching) motion, though. No more fiddling with bi-directional clamps.

Great for portraits!
The range of motion is wonderful! Makes it quick and easy to go from landscape to portrait. The level included on the head comes in really handy!

Stronger than other Bogen pistol grip
I use a Stroboframe with an extended flash way up high. It's heavy, expecially when coupled with my Nikon D2H . If I attach them to a monopod and extend it way up to get a bird's-eye view looking down, the monopod and/or ball head must be tilted forward. The regular Bogen ball head won't hold this tilt, but this one will. It's solved my problem nicely.

Total Control
This is an excellent product and is very well made. I have taken a lot of photographs of flora and fauna which require the camera to be very still and at unsual angles. The 322RC Grip Action Ballhead is steady and reliable with a solid lock and an excellent quick release plate. This is one of those products that you wish you had known about years ago.

RELIABLE FOR ANY PURPOUSE
Landscape and nature, have not been able to use it in full, but as far its easy to handle. I changed the grip to use it with my left hand so my right hand will handle the camera. Very easy.

Easy to use Ballhead
This is a wonderful Ballhead. I've previously used a piston grip ballhead, which i've liked, but I prefer the fact that this model has the quickrelease closer to the hall head. It is incredibly easy to adjust, much easier than other ball heads i've used.

Great Head!
Great movement, Good construction, Quick action when needed. Smooth tracking as well. Overall a easy to use ballhead when combined with a good set of legs like the 055MF4. Using with a Canon 5D wit battery grip, 70mm-200mm 2.8 L/IS and 2X extender with no problem at lowest tension.

Wish I brought this years ago!!
Bought this item to replace my Manfrotto 141RC head as it is so much faster to set it up exactly how you want. 1 action now replaces the 3 adjustments I used to have to make! Holds my D300, battery grip and flash with a 70-200 f/2.8 lens no worries at all.

This ballhead is a dream. It is so much easier than my previous tripod/head combination - which was an old dinasour. Positives: - ease in establishing a position - flexibility of tension setting - fast in removing camera from ballhead

MAKES YOUR TRIPOD EFFORTLESS AND PERFECT
This gadget actually holds the 11 pounds it is advertised and does it effortlessly. I have purchased another for use on my favorite monopod. I use an Olympus E3 dslr camera with a vertical battery grip on a Custom Brackets QRS-E3 bracket with a FL50R flash, the thing is just heavy. This device enables me to immediatly adjust the camera angle to get the shot I want every time. Never a ruined image from camera movement. The quick release is well en... Show More

Sturdier than I thought
Once you release the trigger the ballhead really holds... I have been playing around and it can definitely handle more than the 5 kilos from specs. On the other hand, if you have a grip camera (D3, D300 with grip, etc.) you will end up using it on the standard configuration, even if you're left handed (otherwise portrait buttons on the grip are upside down)... Other than that, its a heavy piece that you will try to avoid carring around too much. ... Show More

An inexpensive excellent piece of equipm
I bought it with the Bogen Manfrotto 190CX3 Carbon fiber tripod. Several websites recommended different heads but the Manfrotto website seemed to cone me down on this one when I used the build a system tool. So far I've found it to be way superior to my previous head and at a good price. The rebate the company was offereing helped a lot. It is quick and easy to set up a shot. The head does not easily disattach so it makes carrying the tripod a little more bulky. But I'm very satisfied.

Easy to use, even for a left-handers
I bought this head when I upgraded (from my 141RC and 190 head and tripod combination) to the Manfrotto 055XPROB tripod, and have been very happy with the convenience and ease of use of this head. Being a left-hander, my first reaction was to switch the grip handle to the left, but I decided not to because it limited the angle of tilt and meant I needed to relearn how to zoom and focus the lens with my right hand (which was more difficult to do t...
