VALUE + QUALITY = TOTAL SATISFACTION

Mar 25, 2020

Hi, I am not a wealthy person, I am a photographer that doesnt make his living with his equipment either. So value and quality is paramount for me. I am mostly in to nature and birding with some action sports. I throw some landscape and macro in here there. But birding was the driving force for this purchase. I live on Island and I am surrounded by wetlands. I have all Sony equipment A7Riii 70-200 GM , 24-70GM that was the initial set up I bought... Show More

Nice and Sharp

Mar 20, 2020

Coming from Nikon (D4s & D500) .. I was hesitant on getting a lens with max F6.3 at 600mm. ( I have the Nikon F/4 600mm ) But was surprisingly impressed with the lens. I have it attached to an A9 and love how quickly it locks and how sharp it is. Can't wait to try it with BIF

Circular Bokeh

Mar 16, 2020

A very good lens for sports and wildlife. It dwarfs my Alpha 7II. It has a circular bokeh, similar to a Helios 40 or a Helios 44m. This is the lens to get, when you know that 70-200mm is not enough.

The best long range telephoto zoom for Sony E-mount

Mar 15, 2020

I've used several different long range telephoto zoom lens and adapter combinations on just about every E mount camera over the past decade. If you need an all-around excellent performer, this outpaces them all. It's faster than the G1 and G2 150-600 Tamrons. It beats the Sigmas too. I contend it's also sharper than the rest. It's portable as can be in this range. Of course, a tripod or monopod are best, but I'm firmly past my youth and have hand... Show More

Great lens

Mar 12, 2020

Rented this lens: Good, sharp imaging, fast autofocus, good image stabilization, excellent bokeh, internal zoom is great, lugs for strap attachment is Sony using their heads. Price is right. 3 minor cons: Weight - 6.11 lbs on a Sony mirrorless but a typical weight for long-reach telephotos; Zoom ring is a bit too loose so it can change with the slightest touch, and it can creep a bit, though the internal zoom and turn max travel are both excelle... Awesome

Couldn't be happier. Pairing this with my new A9. The auto focus between this camera and lens is crazy good for birds in flight.

The tech specs speak for themselves but the comfort of this lens would lead me to give 6 stars if I were allowed. I am a long time user of long lenses for birds and other wildlife and went from the canon 500mm F4 beast to the Sigma 150-600 zoom 2 years ago. The zoom gives you more flexibility for safari situations and is lighter. The slower speed is compensated by modern high ISO performance of cameras. This year I switched from Canon to Sony and... Best Sony Lens for Wildlife/Sport.

Jan 11, 2020

I use the Sony a6400 as my Camera of choice. I have had to used my Dad's Sigma 150-600mm Sport Lens with the MC-11 Adapter to be able to get Wildlife Photos. It's Heavy, Cumbersome, External Zoom making it front heavy, Just an all in all difficult lens to use for Wildlife. Especially Birds in flight. I then bought my Own super Telephoto Lens and went with the Sony 200-600mm f/5.6-6.3 G OSS LENS and I got to say, it is night and day in comparison... Show More

It's time to make a nature doc.

Jan 9, 2020

I have been wanting to photograph wildlife in a nearby park. I now have the means to do so. I have been out a few times since I bought this lens which allows me to observe animals from a distance without spooking them. The focal length is actually too long at times, but that is why we carry more than one lens.

Big improvement over my previous equivalent lens

Jan 5, 2020

The lens is very sharp and relatively easy to shoot handheld. The fact that it doesn't extend while zooming is a plus. Also, the zoom ring is easy to turn and has a short throw so you don't need to reposition your hand while zooming through the full focal length range. This is a big advantage over the Nikon 200-500mm f/5.6 which is a great lens.

AWESOME LENS!

Dec 31, 2019

I went back and forth about buying this lens- I already I own the 100-400GM, 70-200GM as well as the 1.4X and 2X teleconverters. However, on a recent trip to Sri Lanka it quickly became my go to lens for wildlife and birding. Even with the 1.4X converter under heavy canopy it still performed incredibly well. While the speed of the 600mm F4 GM would have been nice, flexibility, as animals moved closer, would have been comprised. I found the build ... Show More

Tack Sharp Images, Fast Autofocus

Dec 29, 2019

I am very pleased with quick autofocus and tack sharp images at all ranges on my 7 M3 and 7R M4 shooting wildlife. I also have used my 1.4 and 2.0 tele on both cameras and 1.4 consistently works great to get tack sharp eyes on flying birds. The 2.0 is fine in bright sunlight to overcome the f stop limitation and shoot at speed fast enough. I won't be using the 2.0 often or for fast moving subjects. I did get the camo sleeve as the bright white might work in snow but not normally.

Super sharp

Very sharp photos with the Sony 6400 with fast, accurate focusing. Does well with the 1.4x teleextender. Its only downside is that it is heavy - difficult to hand hold for extended periods

Love the weight.

Dec 22, 2019

I took up wildlife photography late in life and thought that I would never be able to handle a 600 mm lens. Well, thanks to Sony this beauty is a light enough weight for me to even hand hold for flight shots. My only lack of one star is that the lens hood falls off easily, even when it seems to have been clicked in place.

Great design and super sharp but...

Dec 12, 2019

Sharp throughout the zoom range and the internal zoom is great. Tracking is fast and accurate. Is rather large and I have some slight concerns about the weight on the camera mount using my regular strap so looking into carry options. Also, needed to get a larger camera bag to accommodate the lens and am getting a lens coat for stealth mode.

Great lens. A bit heavier than the 100-400GM but good extra reach. Need to stop down a bit to get max sharpness. I'm shooting mostly birds and so far so good. Focus acquisition and retention seem fairly good but I've not had the chance to really work it out yet for BIF. No issues for static subjects though. Happy to have it!!

A magnificent lens but check the weight.

Nov 29, 2019

On an 6500, this amounts to a 300-900 mm lens which clearly dwarfs the camera. I suspect this will usually be used with a tripod. Even with lens stabilization, this is likely going to require a high ISO rating so best used with a sensor that does not introduce too much noise. The possible option, an f/4 SONY comes in at about $12,000 so I suspect this will be the lens of choice for many. Excellent images.

Attach to a9 for great bird, wildlife, sports photography

Nov 28, 2019

The combination of this lens with the Sony a9 is, arguable of course, the best sports and wildlife combo that exists today. The tracking autofocus in the camera and the reach of the lens lets you latch onto a bird, a squirrel, or a track and field star and essentially never lose a shot due to poor focus. The 100-400GM is a tad sharper, but you won't see that unless you are shooting on the a7iv.

Perfect with Sony A7 cameras

Nov 28, 2019

Paring this lens with a A7R3 has opened a whole new opportunity for me. Have use a Tamron 150-600 for 5 years now. Can be good but only a 60 % hit rate. With this lens it is a 95% hit rate and much faster at that. A great lens.

Excellent fast focus lens with great reach

Nov 27, 2019

I recently switched from a Canon body to a Sony body. I was shooting with the Sigma 150-500mm Sports edition on the Canon. When I got the Sony body, I also got the Sigma adapter so that I could use the Sigma lens on the Sony body, but the focus speed wasn't very fast. So I bought this Sony 200-600mm lens. LOVE it. It's so much lighter than the Sigma and the focus speed is lightning fast. I also love that the lens stays the same length no matter how far you're zoomed. The Sony lens is super sharp and I'm very pleased with the results.
