Everything is perfect BUT...

Nov 28, 2018

I LOVE this lens, have had it for 2 weeks now and definitely made my money back out of it. The only thing i am able to complain about is the very very outer corners having a almost black edge. Only correctable in lightroom when i use the Sony 100-400 and boost the corrections. But after all this has been a great lens vor me and havent taken it off my camera in the last 3 shoots that i had, those being beach, a wedding, and a fashion shoot. perfect for all

Worth the wait.

Sep 24, 2018

I waited three months for this lens. I now have, or have owned, the Sony A7R2, A7R3, RX10M4 and the RX100M6. The A7R3 with this new lens is everything I had hoped for in a travel rig. Because of the ability to crop, and the sharpness of this lens, it's almost all I use now. Add a faster lens for low light, if desired, and you can take this almost anywhere. The RX10M4 does make the choice a little harder. If it's budget over low light, get the RX10M4.

Great Lens, B&H always great!

Jan 9, 2018

Sharp lens. I was using an adapted canon EF 24-105 F4 and the images were very good with my a7M2. I went native and purchased the Sony 24-105 F4 G and it's been a gem so far. I think it's actually sharper than the adapted Canon, but shouldn't it be? Good job Sony. What to say about B7H? They've been my go to for all my photo and PC needs for the past 15 years. I've never had a single issue with a purchase. Keep up the good work.

Outstanding travel lens

Apr 7, 2019

If you are going to travel with only one lens this is it! When I travel i walk around gorilla gripping my camera along with a wrist strap. I dont find this lens to be too heavy or awkward for a day of shooting. Images are superb, focus is fast and build quality is top notch. Paired with my A7iii, I havent felt at a disadvantage in lowlight conditions. Your camera wasnt cheap so why put cheap glass on it.....get this lens.

Finally, a Sony standard zoom that is a keeper.

Dec 8, 2017

My 1st impression is that the IQ at all focal lengths at mid apertures approaches that of the 24-70mm f2.8 GM with a much friendlier size, weight, and price. It is a huge step up from the "Zeiss" 24-70mm f4 in accross the frame sharpness with better than expected build and handling qualities. It won't replace the best primes for large print photography but is an extremely flexible and capable zoom.Great Job Sony!

Outstanding for family photography

Feb 25, 2018

On an A7R3 this lens focuses fast with quiet and smooth operation. It also functions well in low light. The lens is quite sharp at f4 for all focal lengths, however, at 24mm it is outstanding. Compared to my prime lenses (50 & 85 1.4), it is not as sharp and the rendering is not as pleasing. For event and family photography this is an incredible lens. My copy has no issues with focusing in MF or AF-S.

Looking forward to getting into the field with this lens

Nov 6, 2018

Shot canon for 14 years, just made the switch to sony Alpha about a year ago. Had the Sony F4 24-70 OSS Zeiss, but missed the reach I had on my Canon 24-105 F4 IS, so excited to try this one out. Build quality seems similar to that of Canon. Wish the focusing wasnt fly by wire. Also wish it had a manual aperture adjustment like some of the other higher end Sony GM lenses have. Pricey, but good optics.

So far, exceptional

Apr 18, 2018

Got the lens in the mail along with brand new Sony A7iii, and headed off to a national volleyball tourney. Photos are tremendous! Not sure if it's the camera, the lens, or (probably) both. One thing I can attribute solely to the lens - for a zoom like this, it's smaller and much less heavy, both of which are welcome. Looking forward to learning how to get the most out of this over the coming months.

Faulty & sometimes blurry shots.

Jan 27, 2018

I've came from Canon 6D and 24-105 f4 with always sharp photos. Now moved to Sony A7RII. I ditched the fotodiox adapter with Canon lens because it always focus hunts. I've got this lens first day and sometimes the lens ring would be stuck at distance 40.. and wouldnt go down to 24 no matter how hard I would turn the lens. Sometimes it takes a while to focus, unlike my Canon which is a lot faster.

Beware of potential focus issues

Feb 7, 2018

Test your copy thoroughly during the return window, the second production batch (serial numbers starting with 181) seems to be frequently affected by a focus shift issue - details at the Fred Miranda blog forum, or do a search for "sony 24-105 focus shift issues" Curiously, currently there are no reports of issues for lenses from the presumed first run, with serial numbers starting with 180.

Love this lens

Mar 6, 2019

Love the versatility and sharpness of this lens. Stays on my camera constantly. I use it mainly for landscapes but been shooting more in a studio lately. It is fantastic at F8 for studio where you ussually need 50mm, 85mm & 105mm focal lengths. This lens covers that entire spectrum and performs admirably. I have compared the results to many prime lenses and the results are indistinguishable.

Great starter lens - but big

Apr 17, 2019

If you are just getting into photography then I think this lens would be a good starter lens. It is sharp, has a quality build, and covers majority of the focal lengths. However - I started out using small prime lenses, so this lens was a little big for my liking. It is almost equivalent to the GM 24-70mm except it has a smaller filter size which probably makes it slightly less front heavy.

stunning performer

Jun 18, 2018

I owned the 24-70GM and ended up selling it due to it being expensive, heavy and 70mm limit (I still own 16-35GM which is incredible). I am finding myself using the 24-105 far more often than the 2470. I don't miss the extra stop of 2.8 vs f4. Sony cameras can easily make up for that with a one stop ISO increase and no degradation in quality. I won't be going back... this 24-105 is a keeper

Awesome Lense

Jun 24, 2018

I actually owned the 24-70GM 2.8, and ended up not using it often due to weight, size and not enough reach at longer end . After trying this 24-105...the decision was made and I sold off the 2470GM. This lense is every bit as sharp...and the extra reach is great. The OSS also works wonders at slow shutter speeds. Unless your a low light action junkie, get this lense instead of the 2470GM

Great travel and walkabout lens

Dec 29, 2019

I just switched from Canon to Sony. I mostly shoot wildlife but realized that I had no lens for family events, cultural events or just walking about in cities. After much research, I chose this lens as it can resolve the 61Megapixels of the a7RIV. I tried it our over the holidays, and it did not disappoint. It performed great even with holiday light displays at the botanic garden.

Excellent 24-105 lens with great optics

Dec 8, 2019

This lens has surprising resolution and a great range for a 24-105 f/4 type lens. Having owned Canon versions before, I like this type of lens for its range and moderate minimum f stop of f/4. So far I have been really happy with the optical capability of the copy I received. I would highly recommend this if you do not need a f/2.8 zoom for a general use lens.

Fantastic Lens

Jan 14, 2019

This is a fantastic lens, and I highly recommend this over the 24-70 f4 ZA OSS (which I also own), assuming you can afford the added expense. Not only does it have the extra zoom range, but the bokeh is much better too. Also, it does manual focusing much smoother Ive noticed. It is a little heavier (and longer), but with the added range, thats to be expected.

Perfect Balance

Dec 11, 2017

While this lens is not the best at any particular feature, it is really good at just about everything. Image quality is fantastic, the focal range is pretty ideal, constant f/4 is great (especially for video work), and it's not too bulky or heavy. This will be my primary lens on an A7S2. I also made a quick review on YouTube here:https://youtu.be/2u7CNLPW5Ko

Amazing Lens! The Best 24-105 on the Market!

Jan 14, 2018

Traveling light is essential for the type of landcape photography that I do. The 24-105 has better color and image quality than Sony 24-70 f/4 and Canon 24-105 L II. The build quality and feel quality is better than Canon 24-105 L II. For light traveling I can fit 3x zoom (24-105) and my 16-35 in my small ONABowery Camera Bag.

Great all round travel lens

Nov 26, 2018

For travelling including hiking/backpacking, while on the heavy side the focal length range works really well for a wide range of subjects. Controls on the lens are very useful (focus hold, stabilisation on/off, and AF/manual on/off). Image quality is also excellent (I use it on an A7RIII). So no complaints at all.

Super all purpose lens!

Jan 2, 2018

This is a good all around lens for travel, portraits and general photography. Razor sharp images in a compact design. Fast focus to boot in auto mode and good focus in manual mode. Personally, I use this lens for both photo and video on my Sony FS5 & FS7 video cameras. Sony hit a home run with this one. Thanx Sony

Very Satisfied

Sep 17, 2018

This lens is fantastic. Been using it since I got it, and I have no complaints. Love the minimum focus distance, as this can be used to get some nice isolation. Super sharp, and very versatile. Most of the lens elements are in the front of the lens, making it a bit heavier than I expected, but you get used to it.

Amazing lens, finally what the FE system needed!

Mar 14, 2018

I was previously using a Zeiss 24-70mm lens, which was okay for what it was. Nothing stellar. I was excited that after reviewing the performance, this lens has lived up to my expectations from Sonys G line. Although not Gmaster, it produces extremely sharp images, especially when stopping down. LOVE this lens.

Very Sharp

Mar 20, 2019

Tested the lens on bare winter branches. Results were very sharp & clear. Very convenient to have the Steady Shot control on the lens, put it on a tripod & hit the switch, no menu search necessary to shut it off. Convenient focal length, the extra 35mm of focal length a relief from the limits of the 24-70mm.
