Use the Cannon 5D full frame sensor and it has ruined me. All else looks bad. But it's big and expensive and not always with me. So I carried that or my iPhone. I LOVED MY iPhone. Until I didn't. Look for my review of the RX100m2. This version is better, in my opinion, except for the changes in lens design do 2 things I don't like as much: A The wider aspect is less POV Friendly if that makes sense. Great Little Camera
I use it as a pocket point-and-shoot, when I don't want to (or can't) lug around my DSLR. For that, it's an excellent performer. I typically leave it in automatic mode...I don't care about it's DOF, and I don't try anything artistic with it (i.e. macro or long exposure). Amazing camera but with some issues
I'm an advanced amateur. I bought the RX100 III because I wanted a small form-factor camera that produces high quality images. I've owned a number of compact cameras, including the original RX100. I wasn't willing to hang on to that one because I didn't love the output (partially related to the lens) and the handling. The mk3 is, I think, enough to make me finally retire my Olympus e-pm2 as my go-to compact.The 2 standout upgrades with the mk3 are the lens and the viewfinder. Incredible pocket-power
I own a Canon 5D3 with several L-glass and use that primarily along with the Sony RX1R. Sometimes I only travel with the RX1R and leave the DSLR behind, it's image quality is incredible, certainly on par with the 5D3 and a premium lens, given the pairing of the Zeiss 35mm f/2.0. Having been on the trail of the most compact pro-sumer P&S camera for decades, I'm glad Sony upgraded their RX100 model. I all ready own the RX100 II, so I know how good this little baby should be. First problem is the integral lens cap won't reliably open fully, leaving blacked out corners on your shots. If you use your fingernail very carefully, you can get it open without a fingerprint on the lens, if you remember. I am sending this one back.
