Utterly Fantastic

Dec 24, 2014

Up until now, I've owned Nikon crop-sensor cameras: the D5200 and then the D7100. I picked up the A7II as a full-frame upgrade. At first, I found the camera gimmicky. I was so used to my Nikons that using the A7II felt odd and slow. However, as I used the camera more and more, I started to fall in love with it. Image quality is great. Even jpegs straight from the camera look amazing. You can't go wrong here in terms of image quality; the sensor i... Show More

Good camera, still on the fence

Apr 13, 2015

I'm a photography enthusiast, but thiis is not how I pay my bills. I work a full work week and do photography on the weekends and some evenings. I've only used Nikon cameras before trying this camera (D90, D610, D800). I do all types of photography, street, travel etc. I've had the camera about 2 weeks so far. I really want (am still trying) to love this camera, and overall its a good camera, but there are some things that I think potential buyer... Show More

Superb camera for all kinds of photography

Mar 1, 2016

Purchase of a digital camera gets tougher as technology changes as fast as smartphone tech. Nokia got lost when cellphones became pocket computers with the advent of the iPhone. Nikon and Canon are similarly becoming lost as Sony redefines modern camera technology as sophisticated computers wrapped around a state-of-art sensor. From a practical point, the A7 II represents a high water mark for routine photography. Yes, the A7RII has a higher-resol... Show More

I want to start with that I do not own this product and only spent couple of hours, very limited time with it. Last 5 years I shot almost exclusively landscapes. Now I am trying to go back to the basics to rediscover the joy of photography and not trophy hunting. I shoot more portraits, street, urban art and some landscapes still. I have had Nikon SLR, DSLR D3 system w. Nikon 2.8 pro zooms, and currently a big Canon Pro DSLR system. I really want... Show More

Bang For Buck, A Best Value

After being a Canon shooter for years and having a substantial investment in EF-mount glass, I was aiming for a compact system that I could take abroad that would provide the high-quality stills I was accustomed to capturing with the larger DSR's. Through much investigation, I ended up with this body. That was about a year ago. To-date, I have not bought a single FE mount lens and only use this body with EF (Canon), FD, (really old Canon), and M ... Show More

Excellent Compact Full-Frame Camera

Dec 27, 2014

Being a photographer and videographer by profession, I was and continue to be smitten with what Sony has done to shake up the industry of full-frame mirrorless cameras. Only a few years ago, the only options if looking to utilize the potential of a full frame camera was to get a large (and expensive) DSLR camera. Leaving Canon for Sony

May 29, 2015

I was ready to upgrade to full frame (currently own a Canon 70D) and considered the Canon 6D and rumored Canon 5D Mk IV. But ultimately I have decided to abandon Canon all together and move to Sony! The Sony A7 Mk ii has much to offer photographers. On the plus side the Mk ii has this to offer: 24MP full frame sensor, 5 axis stabilization, lighter form factor, and lower entry cost, and opportunity to use my Canon L lenses. On the negative side th... Show More

almost perfect

I've used this camera for several trips and photo projects over the past five months. The image quality is excellent. Here are my overall thoughts: The critique that it doesn't have enough native lenses is less valid than it used to be. I only shoot prime lenses, and this camera has several excellent options (the Sony/Zeiss collaborations, Zeiss Loxia, and Zeiss Batis). If you already have Leica or M-mount lenses, it's fun to use them to this cam... Show More

Great camera, but has a few issues.

Dec 2, 2016

I have had this body for about 3 months but had not used it enough to be fair in a review until last month when I was traveling with it for 3 weeks. Using it almost every day gave me a good feel for its strengths and weaknesses. Let's start with the weaknesses: 1) Battery life. To be blunt, this thing burns through batteries. I could drain a battery from full charge to dead in 60-90 minutes. I carried 5 batteries for this camera with me, and some... Show More

Great Camera!!

Mar 4, 2015

I have had this camera about 3 weeks now. Did not want to write a review until I had taken several hundred shots with it. One quick thing, I am not a professional photographer. I just am really picky about the shots I take. That being said I have taken a ton of pictures with many different settings including auto and manual. While some have not been the best due to my own skills I am very impressed overall with the shots I have taken and there ha... Show More

I would buy this product again

May 29, 2015

I've had this camera for three weeks. I'm primarily a video maker but also wanted a camera that could make good stills. I bought the a7II because it has in-camera image stabilization, which makes it possible for me to shoot hand-held video with my old (and superb) Leica and Nikon lenses--and also to shoot stills without a tripod at longer shutter speeds. I didn't find it possible to get acceptable hand-held video with a friend's a7S and my old ma... Show More

Building out a nice kit is really expensive

Mar 27, 2016

I'll start with the good: the smaller size is nice (although it weighs about as much as a 6d), and I like the control layout (very much a preference). All the customizable buttons at your fingertips and the 3 wheels gives a ton of control options. Plus I'm a big fan of dedicated exposure comp dials. Also I had no problem with the automatic switching between the EVF and the screen. The battery life is definitely worse than a DSLR but this wasn't a... Show More

Amazingly capable camera!

Apr 12, 2015

I'm really enjoying this camera. The build quality is excellent; like the solid feel of premium cameras made back in the day. It's very compact and has a nice heft to it (which I also like), but when it comes to extended use feels more like a feather around my neck compared to my D700/800. It's perfect as a back up body or for the hiking kit where space is limited. Stop down metering with a non-OEM lens is painless due to the EVF, it simply adjus... Show More

Feb 28, 2015

1) It feels great in my hand. Grip, shutter, dials all feel right to me. I particularly like the AF/MF button. Build is solid (might be a bit heavy for some mirrorless users, but I like the heft). Definitely less bulky than my Canon 6D.2) Same sensor as my RX1, so no surprises there. Great dynamic range, decent high ISO performance (although not in the same league as a7s). Looks sharp although it has a (weak) anti-aliasing filter. Much better sen... Show More

The best A7 series camera for me so far

Jan 2, 2015

I've used many cameras and I've owned A7 (original) and A7r. As a matter of fact I've shot over 10,000 shots with A7r. I also owned cameras like Canon 5DM3 and 6D, and Nikon D700, D600, and D800, and shot 10,000s of shots with them. So I have a good reference point. I also own Fuji XT1 and owned Olympus EM1, so I know what the mirrorless competition provides. And I do own Sony A6000 so I know what fast mirrorless AF is like. Also it should be not... Show More

I sold my Canon equipment and initially I bought the Sony Alpha A7R, but I sold it as soon the new A7II was released with no regrets. This camera is as good as the new A7RII but at a more affordable price without the excessive memory/processing requirements of 4k video and 42 megapixel. I think the range of 24 megapixel gives the best resolution/size compromise for almost every use, without overloading your SD cards and HDs. The Sony Alpha A7II i... Show More

This camera is small and very light, but the build is exceptional and it handles well. It's also a pretty camera with retro styling and a compact, solid feel. The video is great. Not so with my Canon 6D which was fairly expensive in 2013. The clips are pro quality, without artifacts--primarily moire--that plague my 6D. All of a sudden, six manual focus Canon FD lenses can be used for digital subjects with a whopping 24 MP image. One of the lenses... Show More

I am not a professional photographer, I take pictures only for my family and friends. I bought this camera hoping to replace my D800, which is a great camera but is just slowing me down everywhere since it is too heavy. The quibbles first, the SD card door appears to have a mind of its own and quite often I find it open, much to my dismay. It seems only a matter of time before this puppy inadvertently snaps off.
