Great balance for Nikon 300mm PF
I got this to use for birding and dogs with a Nikon 300mm f/4E PF telephoto lens, the TC-14E III teleconverter and a Wimberley WH-200 gimbal, all attached to a Nikon D500. Almost perfect
I'm using this LC-A12 on the 300mm f/4 PF mounted to a D850. No teleconverter. However, the lens to too light to balance properly on my RRS full gimbal. I have the camera/lens combo slid all the way forward until it hits the safety stop in the cradle, but it still needs to come forward a tad in order to balance out. Excellent replacement for the Nikon factory collar and foot!
As noted in most reviews, this collar and foot is very much better than the one that comes from Nikon. Would definitely recommend this product. One thing to watch out for though is this: I was shooting outdoors handholding the camera. Turned the foot 180 deg so that it was facing up and out of the way. Agree with Brad
I found the same thing with the 300 f4/E - D500 combo. Reversing the collar allows the lens to balance correctly on my RRS gimbal. It also balances nicely when carried with a BlackRapid sling strap by mounting the eyelet to the 1/4-20 fitting on the collar. Build quality is typical RRS-excellent.

Just what I needed
At first I bought a ball head because my new Nikkor 300mm lens did not include a collar. I hated the ball head and was relieved to learn about this RRS collar and foot. It is exactly what I needed, allowing me to use my Gimbal tripod head.

Where is oil coming from?
I keep finding an oily film in random spots around the collar. Have no idea where it's coming from. I'll clean the entire collar with some isopropyl alcohol and the oil spots keep coming back.
