Sigma 105mm f/2.8 EX DG OS HSM Macro Lens for Nikon F

UPC's:
Durable 1:1
This is a sturdy lens with good OS, a nice replacement to my previous macro that finally started having issues after 15 years.

My sample appears to be defective.
The image quality seems to be good enough but I'm afraid I'm going to send my sample back for replacement. I've tried it on three different Nikon camera bodies and it won't open to it's stated aperture of f 2.8. I get f4.5, sometimes f3.5 or f3 but never f2.8.

Great addition for a reasonable price!
On occasion I need a macro lens and I've been looking for a 105mm to add to my arsenal of lenses. I saw this lens at such a reasonable price, I bought it. This lens has been a remarkably good lens. It is way more than I expected from a lens in this price range. It feels durable and solid. The focus is fast and it has been fun to work with. There was a question about posting a photo of the lens with both hood covers attached. I will post one here. Great lens and I would highly recommend it!!

excellent macro lens
Terrific lens although working with it takes a little getting used to. It is very sharp but one has to be very careful to get the focus correct. Couples well with my Canon 80d. The OS which works extremely well is a photo saver in low light situations. Extremely well built, should last a lifetime. With the price reduction it is a terrific bargain. Would recommend it to anyone.

A Good Buy
I bought this to replace a Nikon 85mm 3.5 DX micro. I wasn't thrilled with the Nikon but wanted to have a macro that could double as a portrait lens. The Sigma lens is very sharp and the color rendition is very nice.

Very good for the price
The lens is used for macro photography and provides sharp images with the D500. The auto-focus is slow compared to the Nikon lens, but for macro shooting, I use manual focus, so auto-focus is not an issue for me. I have not tried its vibration reduction, all my shots have been with a tripod.

great lens grab it now
this is a great lens. pretty fast at 2.8. 105 focal length is usable for most things. a little footwork may be needed. the image stabilization works fantastically. the images are sharp. close up works perfectly. the thing that sold me on this over the canon 100 2.8 was price. happen to catch this on sale. wouldn't hesitate to buy again.

Great macro lens
The auto focus took some getting used to. Even with the proper mode set. It seemed to hunt for a while, and often not even find the target. But once you get that down it works quite well. Of course most macro work is done with manual focus so it's not as important as with other types of lenses. The OS allows for at least two stops more than without it, so it's great for handheld shots, which is very important for living critters and things. The '... Show More

Very Impressed
So far, with limited use, I'm very satisfied with image sharpness, focusing and value. I was going to buy a reconditioned Canon 100mm L series until Sigma offered this at $400 off. Although the build quality doesn't match the Canon L I feel image quality does or at least comes close.

At 1/2 price a great buy
Used this lens for two weeks. The only disappointment is the F2.8 is not constant. I did know this from other reviews. Up close it goes to f3. ( nikon D750 ) other than that, I Ilike it. I would recommend. I would give it 5 stars if 2.8 was constant. I am not a pro. But an advanced amateur. I will be done enlargements soon. I don't have a concern about it.

Exactly the kind of lens I was looking for!
I shoot wildlife pics and added this macro to supplement my long lens. Using this on a Nikon D810 my photos of close subjects are tack sharp and crystal clear. The lens has a very fast focus and locks on the subject perfectly. The focus motor is very quiet and I'm loving the little extra reach I get with the 105mm. I did a lot of research before making a purchase and I am very happy I got this one. I would recommend it in a heartbeat to anyone looking for a great macro.

Build quality and performance comparable to the NIKON 105. Can't go wrong for the price.

Yes, I would buy this product again
The Sigma 105 mm macro lens is superb. It can deliver very sharp pictures at aperture of f22 with no visible chromatic aberrations. I like to take photos in manual mode when possible to have control of ISO, Av and Tv. I check sharpness at 50x and 100x magnification and this lens can really deliver. I like to use a tripod and focus the image in live view on my Canon 6D. I focus manually (switch focus to manual on the lens) by moving the focusing w... Show More

Great!
I use this lens for head shots and portrait. The detail and sharpness are great! I have had few opportunites to shoot with it but I am definitely happy about this product. I only use Sigma lenses and they are wonderful!

Excellent quality and performance at a reasonable price
I made a purchase decision for this lens based on professional lab results that compared the Sigma to other comparable Macro lenses with at least a 1:2 magnification. I tested the lens, practically, on both a Nikon D800E and D810 platform but I did not extensively measure the flat field, corner to corner sharpness which defines a true Macro lens. I don't make copies of 2-dimensional artwork, but rather shoot three dimensional objects, so the flat... Show More

Fantastic Macro Lens
On sale became a great value. Excellent lens and the Sigma Ring Flash works great with it. Great combo on my Nikon D500 or D4S

I would buy this product again.
I bought this to replace my old Nikon 60 mm macro. This lens is an upgrade in features from my old lens, internal focusing, fast switch to manual focusing, quiet motor, optical stabilization. The sharpness of this lens is great. It focuses fast and quiet. The OS works very well.

A great macro lens,
This is the first non-Nikkor I have used since I bought my Nikon 8008s decades ago. I bought this Sigma after reading many reviews of it, all of them praising this lens. They were right, and at the price, it was a steal. I have been using this lens for table-top and macro work. It is tack sharp, focuses quickly, and the HSM is as advertised; whisper quiet. The fit and finish are exceptional, and it has a look of high quality. If you are looking for a macro in this focal length range, buy this one.

Amazing lens
I've used Sigma products before as well as just about every other cameras and lenses from Minox to 8x10 over the years (OK I'm a dinosaur) and they have definitely upped their quality over the years. I tested this on my new 51 MP Bayer equivalent, Foveon sensor Sigma SD Quattro H, against my Hasselblad 110mm f 2 3rd generation lens with a Kipon lens adapter on a heavy tripod using the 10 second delay to reduce any movement from me and at comparab... Imperfection(big spot) on the lens
I didn't notice until several months after I bought this that there is a spot on/in the lens that leaves a black circle on photographs.

So Far So Good
I bought this to use on a new Sigma SD Quattro H. The effective focal length is 140mm, so I use it the way I would a 135/2.8. I'm not equipped to do serious bench tests, but I did try it at various apertures and found it very good wide open, then even better up to f/5.6 or f/8, and still fine through f/16. I try to use it f/8, generally, sometimes with focus stacking in a studio setting. There are three switches on the lens: 1) image stabilizatio... Show More

My first macro
Since my purchase I have had only a couple of days to work with the lens; it has been great. Little to no abrasion, (even when using the OS) needs very little post calibration, sometimes not at all. One thing I do not like is the focus is a little slow, granted I didn't buy this as a daily prime lens, some patients is needed.
