Rokinon 14mm f/2.8 IF ED UMC Lens For Nikon with AE Chip

Loving it
I am a landscape hobbyist. Needed a wide angle lens to supplement my Canon 24-105, and this was recommended to me by a seasoned photographer. What a find! At this price point I was worried about clarity and ease of use. I was pleasantly surprised on both counts. I would definitely recommend this to other photographers looking for a prime lens that won't break the bank but deliver high-quality photos.

Excellent Lens
I purchased this lens for my first attempt at photographing the milky way...unfortunately, my first opportunity was cancelled by an early snow storm. I have taken a number of pictures in daylight and find the optics to be extremely crisp right to the edges of the image. Purchasing the model with the AE chip is a must if you want to have your settings recorded in the EXIF, and the friendly focus chip is invaluable.

This Lens Is So Good, It's Ridiculous!
Sure, it has (a bit) of mustache distortion, mild barrel distortion, and mild vignetting at large apertures, but all these are barely noticeable in most photography. And very much more expensive lenses can have these flaws as well. But there is strikingly little chromatic aberration, and at f8, remarkably sharp corner to corner images are possible, even enlarged to 13x19, using my a99II body. The lack of autofocus and auto aperture control are no... Show More

Really fun lens
Not much to it, set to infinity and go. Manual everything but it's really not difficult at this fixed focal length. I loved shooting with it!

Great Landscape Lens
I bought this to shoot stars and landscapes during a multi-day backpacking trip in the North Cascades National Park. This lens didn't disappoint for either scenario. My only issue was getting stars to be in focus (i.e. As points of light). I wish that task was easier to do. I eventually figured out a focus setting that worked.

Highly recommend
Amazing lens. Takes a bit of getting used to manually focusing with a digital camera but once you get the hang of it this is a great investment.

Great lens.
Great lens. Very wide, very sharp, very controllable. I do a lot of wide angle shooting, so this was a very exciting purchase and has not disappointed. I'd give it 5 stars if it had autofocus, but manual focus with the chip works flawlessly. Very happy with it.

Flexible and sharp
I found the lens best used for a Pentax mount K to use as either an AV or Manual. The K-1 checks each time the camera is turned on for the focal length, with the closes available 15mm, when the lens is 14mm. The manual focus ring is designed with 3/4 of the movement for close up work and infinity. This lens s designed for images nearby or astrophotography. No auto-focus. Great value and cheap for what you get.

Good Lens for the price, would recommend!
As a rookie photographer, I feel like this lens is great for the price. I bought this lens to shoot the Milky Way/ night sky on a recent camping trip, 40 miles away from any light pollution. I'm used to an automatic focus lens, so getting used to the manual lens was quite different. Because of the f2.8, the ISO had to be set high (over 3200) to pick up enough light for a decent picture, which was tested at 30, 40, 45, 50, and 60 second exposures.... Show More

Just OK
The primary purpose of buying this lens was for astrophotography and landscapes was a distant secondary reason. After owning this lens for a couple of years I decided to add this review, knowing that chances are it will not be read. The pros, it is low cost and can produce above average images of the stars overhead when stopped down a little. But a lot of that depends on the proper exposure and post processing skills. The Cons are the distortion ... Show More

Really great lens
Awesome lens especially for astro photography. The images are really sharp and the lens is great for low light being f2.8. I ended up purchasing the fotodiox polarizer for it so now I can use it for shooting water scenes. The construction is very nice with a smooth focus ring. I just recently starting shooting the milky way and it works so much better than my Sigma 17-50 f2.8.

Disappointed with sharpness...
I am shooting Milky Way photos, so I purchased the Rokinon 14mm f2.8 lens. I manually focus at night at f2.8, using Live View magnified on my Canon T3i. Initially I thought perhaps that I was not getting the focus right since I wear reading glasses. Then I used the hyperlocal distance and still sharpness at f2.8 was very soft. So to be sure, I shot extensive tests at home, well lit, at various distances from the subject, and using every f stop fr... Show More

I have mixed feelings
There are two aspects to my review of this lens. First is that the optics are sharp. For that I would rate the lens a 5. BUT, the other side of the usage coin is convenience. There are no contacts to provide through-the-lens metering, and that can be a problem if you don't have a separate, hand-held meter. No matter where I set the aperture and shutter speed, no matter what ISO I set the in-camera meter to, the in-camera meter reading is consiste... Show More

Great Purchase
Great lens for the price just be sure you want a lens that is fully manual before buying it. Otherwise works beautifully!

Excellent manual lens
I'm no professional and wanted a cost effective lens that I'll enjoy shooting landscapes and nightscapes with on my backcountry trips, this thing exceeded expectations! The customer service rep on B&H chat quickly answered my questions and made it super easy to purchase with confidence. It's fully manual which for me adds to the fun and process but takes a little getting used to. It feels solid and well made. If you're on a budget but enjoy shooting everything from the Milky Way to extreme close ups of your pets face then you will have great fun with this lens.

I got what I was looking for - thank-you Photog Adventures
I have been searching may night sky photographers and what lens they recommend, and I saw this one via Photog Adventures . I decided to take the plunge and purchased this for my Canon DSLRs ( 5,6,&7D models ) and am loving the results. The AE chip works wonderfully with the camera, as I certainly grew-up manually focussing and the beep alert is a nice touch. Very good results on sunsets - awaiting to use it for my Milky Way shots in a few weeks. I bought one for my friend who shots on a Pentax and he is enjoying the lens too. Great buy !

Not totally acceptable for indoor Architectual work
Shooting on a tripod still resulted in distortion. While correctable in adobe, I was hoping that would not be the case.
