Best Tripod Money Can Buy

Dec 9, 2019

There's a saying that goes, Buy Nice or Buy Twice and it couldn't be more true for tripods. Before owning this product, I had a Manfrotto MK290XTA3-3WUS 290 Xtra Aluminum Tripod. After 4 months of usage, I decided to upgrade to an RRS TQC-14 MK1 because the Manfrotto was a huge pain to use in the field. The tripod was too heavy and barely supported any weight. The Pan and Tilt head was very cumbersome to use and restricted some compositions that... Show More

Surprisingly, even better than expected.

Aug 1, 2019

After weeks of googling, reading and trying to match other peoples tripod experiences with my needs I ended up ordering the RRS 24L as a replacement for my Gitzo Series 2 Traveler. The Traveler is very good, but isn't as tall as I'd like without resorting to the centre column nor stable enough in difficult conditions. I also wanted something that could handle a leveling base and small fluid head for video work, yet be reasonably compact and light... Show More

Just what I was looking for!

May 13, 2019

I had attempted to meet all of my tripod needs with a single series 1 tripod from another manufacturer. But too many times I found it too short (even with the center column extended), not stable enough for a longer lens (100-400) and just a bit larger than I wanted for hiking. So I decided to stop compromising and switched that out for the RRS TQC-14 Mark II. (I also bought a RRS TVC-24L for the other extreme.). The TQC-14 is going to meet most o... Show More

super stable

Jul 29, 2019

I decided to upgrade my tripod after a Cdn Rockies hiking trip. Manfrotto w 3-point pan/tilt head was heavy and, for long exposures and telephoto shots, the camera would sway slightly when I pushed the shutter release, due to the inherent instability of the center-post extension. I already had the RRS PG-02 panoramic gimbal head, so was familiar and impressed with the RRS brand. What I especially liked about the TVC-24L, and the key reason I bo... Show More

Very solid, well-constructed, sets up smoothly and quickly

Sep 15, 2019

I wanted a tripod that would put the camera view finder at eye height (I'm 6'1) with some extra length to accommodate uneven ground, without having to rely on a center column. With that said, I also acquired the Quick Center Column to allow easier, quicker fine-tuning of height adjustments as well as to get even more height for shooting over obstacles, for example prairie grasses and wetland reeds which are rather high this time of year. I am not... Show More

Twist locks have broken 4 times in 7 months

May 13, 2019

I cant tell you how disappointed I am that I am writing this. Ive owned a variety of RRS products. Like most, it started with several L Brackets for various cameras. Then I committed to the BH 40 and was very happy. I had longed for their tripod legs, but couldnt afford them. A few years and a few tripods later I decided to commit and get the TVC24L. It was a huge investment and was not taken lightly. The first time I extended the legs, one of th... Show More

Excellent Tripod

May 28, 2019

Its been said that your tripod is the most important piece of gear in your landscape photography kit. If you are serious about your work, thats a huge responsibility. This tripod from Really Right Stuff and B&H meets the role perfectly with its sturdy, elegant yet understated construction and performance. On an all-day shoot for a client last week in and around a Lake Michigan resort community, it was a most marvelous tool. In town, in the park, ... Show More

Incredible set of sticks to last a lifetime.

Feb 18, 2019

This is my 4th set of tripod legs Ive purchased in the last 5 years, and I expect it to be my last. My first tripod many years ago was a Slik 700DX. A beast, and durable, but 12 lbs. Ouch. Next two purchases were cheap Chinese CF knockoffs. On paper and first several uses, the ChinaSticks will be great for most, but fear not, they will break within 10 or so outings. Ultimately getting the 24L was the choice for me as I shoot a lot of uneven surfaces and need that extra long leg option.

Rock Solid

Aug 28, 2018

Using this with the RRS by-40 ball head. The tripod itself is a monster, no flex, solidly built, and no vibrations at all. The size is perfect as I'm 6' even and with the ball head attached my camera is basically at eye level. Shooting with an A7rIII and 70-200GM without issue, handles the weight with ease. Overall highly recommend. The only nitpick I have is no bag comes with the tripod, which you think for $1K it would.

solid as a rock

Aug 21, 2018

I have read so many recommendations to use a premium tripod, but I wondered just how much difference it would make vs. my old Manfrotto. In just 3 trips I have found that it is noticeably more stable for the same weight. The additional height without a center column has also made a big difference. You really need to use some loctite on the feet, just lost one that fell off while hiking in British Columbia.

Surprised how sturdy & light this tripod is

Mar 25, 2019

I was surprised how light this tripod is. It replaced a very well used, and awesome, Gitzo 1348. This tripod is much lighter but is just as sturdy. Used it with a 500/4 & tc-14 on a sidekick and it performed very well (thought outside of RRS guidance for focal length). Its going to become my main travel tripod and the Gitzo stays in the studio. Highly recommended.

Steady As A Rock

Jul 10, 2018

Have only had this tripod for a month but have had several occasions to use it. As advertised, it is light, of quality build, solid. The extra height pays dividends on uneven terrain with significant slope to keep the camera at eye height. Vibration is minimal and settles quickly. Highly recommend for someone looking for a superior product.

Best Tripod

Dec 15, 2018

The build is fantastic. Extremely sturdy. Its well worth the money. Im 5 10 and this tripod fits perfectly without extending the last leg section. This makes it extremely useful on uneven ground/side of mountain to have the extra extension on the leg that is further down the mountain to create a level base.

The best tripod in the market!

Aug 20, 2018

The tripod is quite light by itself. when clubbed with BH-55 it tends to be a bit heavy, but still a great combination for larger SLR bodies and to use at odd angles. the legs are smooth and the operation is simple. no manual required :) Overall great product, but the price seems a tad high.

My final tripod

Feb 1, 2019

After progressively buying up, I have my final tripod. The leg extension locks work easily and have a good feel and size. It is very easy to adjust the leg position which is a great improvement over others. And I love not having a center column.

A great tripod

Feb 3, 2019

This RRS tripod really lived up to its reputation as a quality product. It worked flawlessly in minus ten degree temps. The lack of a center column is wonderful and the leg locks work smoothly. Its worth the money.
