Really Right Stuff Multi-Clamp Kit with BC-18 Micro Ball Clamp

MPN's:
Great for low level photos.
I love that it sticks in my pocket. Sturdy. And the pictures I take setting it on the ground give me very distinctive pictures.

Elegant
Together, these two comprise an elegant piece of kit. The price is almost silly (after all, one can nearly as small tripods for one sixth of the cost at B&H, although there is really no other head as small as the BC-18) but the size and quality, even for such small items, is of such a high level that it delightful to use. Of course, the set-up is so small and so light that you can always carry it. Want to self-time and jump in a group photo? Unexpectedly want to do a time exposure? No problem. And it handles my D850 and long lenses without a hiccup. Very nice.

Best compact tripod available
Some folks say this is expensive. I disagree. How much would you pay if this was the only combo like this available? The machining quality on this setup is outstanding, and the functioning is perfect. How strong is it? See the attached photo. This little gem is a permanent resident in my camera bag. I have used this set up many times and it has never let me down. Highly recommended.

pricey, small, light, super sturdy
I use these to mount small monitors, and audio recorders to the top and bottom rails of my video camera (BMMCC). The camera cage has RRS rails installed on the top and bottom, so I can mount lights, recorders, monitors, microphones. The Arca-Swiss clamp tightening knob works flawlessly and is silky-smooth. The QR-style lever for the ball is a bit awkward - it is hard to find the right tension - not too tight, not too loose to make adjustments..... Show More

Jewel-like but works perfectly
RRS try to make their products with as much attention to detail as possble. Although costly this pocket tripod definitely suits the Sony RX1rii.

Must have for Travel
Like other RRS items it is extremely well designed and thought out. Quality is top notch. I got this for my trip to NYC and ended up not even carrying my tripod all week. This clamp performed so well, I was able to do long exposures without any issues. It held a Canon 5D MKIV and a 24-70 2.8 steady. It is also handy for spots where you can't get a tripod in. I was able to use it on top of Rockefeller Center. I can't wait to test it out more but its first trip was a huge success.

Smeeee-uuuuuuuth like silk
RRS components are so smooth. This is a great (non-panning) ball head. The weight versus carrying capacity is excellent. Only 4 stars because it's so expensive, but it's a really nice piece of kit.

A travel must have.
As anything from RRS it's really nicely designed and thought out. It's was perfect for my trip to NYC I didn't even use my tripod I packed. Did a minute and 30 long exposure holding a Canon 5d mkiv and a 24-70 lens. Shot came out perfect. It was also great for spots you couldn't take a tripod like the top of Rockefeller center.

great little tripod
It's not cheap, but very solid construction. I haven't used it in the field yet, but trying it out with my various cameras I am confident that it will do what I need. Small and light and good for travel. Looking forward to taking it on my first trip tomorrow.

RRS TFA-01 & BH-30 combo
The TFA-01 was purchased together with the BH-30 Compact Lever Clamp, which is not the usual combo-package. I decided on this combination due to the added panorama base found on the BH-30 and the higher load rating. The BH-30 is extending ever so slightly beyond the base of the TFA, which is barely noticeable. My only concern with this combination was the look & fell. Having said that, I find this combination absolutely perfect and the panorama b... Show More

An Opinion
Not quite as compact as my needs require, but will suffice quite well. Thats why four stars, and not five. The quality of its construction, and the ability for the tripod to be held flat (no slipping on small flat surfaces because of angular legs & being held firmly on vertical surfaces) sold me.

Great Package
Once youve had RRS equipment all others pale in comparison. This is proving that to be true for my gear and myself. Dont ponder anymore, pull the trigger, flip the switch and get this today. The uses are limited only by your imagination. B&Hs shipping has it down pat. Alls well!

super solid and great for travel on low shots
Wish it came standard with a male stud and the head was female threaded, that would make exchanging heads for different applications much easier. That would have made in 5*. The head is also solid and it holds my full frame with heavy 2.8 lenses flawlessly. I hope the rubber feet fold for la long time, but everything is super quality built.

genuinely pocketable but expensive
Fits in clothing pockets and in the side pockets of small snoot bags, this makes it a worthwhile consideration to take out for casual shooting or desktop use. The BC18 microball & clamp lock well and it can hold a DSLR & mid-sized lens and stable with the tripod legs fully splayed. However be aware that it will not tilt further than 45 so cant be used for portraits unless you have an L-bracket on the camera. If this is a requirement then get the version without the microball and add a small regular ball-head. Would give it 5 stars if not for the price.

perfect as super-compact monitor ball-head
Made by RRS so the quality is superb as always. I screw the 1/4-20 end into my Shinobi monitor. The clamp then mounts to an RRS rail on the top of my camera cage (so the ball-clamp is actually upside-down). I can then position the clamp where I want on the rail, and tilt it as needed. Note it is not a true ballhead, so the tilt-angle is limited to +/- 45 degrees - but that is just fine for my monitor use. I have not needed to adjust the ball tension, it holds very securely right out of the box.

Getting used to it...
This is a really nice head - very compact and strong. Im OK with the limited angle adjustment (up to 45 deg.?), as well. Im still getting used to the lever clamp for ball adjustment. Its difficult to set it to a drag setting, which I like to use on my other ball heads (esp. Arca P0). This is due to the ball being a bit unevenly shaped, and the lever going from clamped to loose too easily. Overall a nice option, but I would like a smoother ball, and finer adjustment for friction. It would also be good to have a female thread for better tripod compatibility (esp. monopod).

ReDesign Attachment to Screw Onto Typical 3/8 Tripod Stud
Either RRS should redesign the attachment base or else offer some kind of specialized reducing brush / coupling nut or whatever that goes with this micro ball clamp so that it can be screwed onto a typical RRS tripod stud.

ReDesign With Panning Base
If RRS can design the BPC-16 with a panning clamp / base, then they can include a panning feature in this ballhead, which would make it a much more attractive purchase item.

I use this along with the RRS Pocket Pod. Ive hung my Nikon D850 with a heavy wide angle lens on it...rock solid. I have come to expect nothing less from RRS.

RRS BC-18 Micro Ball Clamp
This clamp is really expensive, however it is also really high quality. As with all RRS Stuff you buy it once and generally have it for life, at least that has been my experience.

This has got to be the best clamp in the market. Small, portable but astoundingly strong. Ive ditched all my heavy clamps which were always cumbersome to carry.
