Good fit, made one upgrade
Machined well and fit perfectly with the contours of the camera. I cut a small strip of rubberized grip tape and added it to the grip portion of the rrs plate. Fit perfectly in two arca Swiss type clamps I had on hand.

Great
RRS base plate for Sony a7iii is working great for me for use on my tripod and with my ball head. No problems

Better than expected!
I bought this RRS base for my Sony A9. Of course the fit and finish are excelent. Moving the battery door to the RRS base was easy and the result was more pleasing than expected. The battery door is very secure in its new position. The best side benefit of this base for me is that it leaves the A9 with a slightly wider base and makes the camera more steady. I use a heavier FE 1.8 55, and with the new base, the camera will not tip over when placed on a flat surface with the lens attached.

really glad the option to purchase base plate alone
this is the best design base plate - comfort pinkie placement, lightweight (works great with smaller gimbal likes Weebill lab), strap quick release, access for battery (with weather sealing - but i am not going to test it :) - can't ask for more. the entire L plate set is selling for $200; i am so glad i can purchase the base plate alone for $85, as it provides all features i need. i may add the L component later on depending on need

Yes and No
Switching to the Sony a7RIII from a Canon DSLR I thought the camera grip was too small and uncomfortable. This RRS plate made the camera just a little bit taller so my pinky fit and also had the convenience of the tripod plate. The fit is perfect and the battery door works fine. For over a year this lived on my camera and I swore it was the best thing ever, until I took it off. Once I removed it I soon discovered the beauty of the smaller size mi... Show More

Annoying but works well
Irks me that on a $3000 camera you have to spend an additional $80 in order to make it feel right in the hand (and I have small hands) but the RRS plate does the job. The ability to use it as a tripod base plate (arcs swiss) softens the blow and the inclusion on the hex head as a magnetic attachment has come in very handy already. The base plate does have a gasket around the battery compartment to keep out water but to be honest, it doesnt inspire a lot of confidence. Might work perfectly I just wouldnt take the chance personally. Overall, happy with the purchase.

Works fine but
When moving the battery cover to the plate the fit is not tight and allows dust to get into the battery area. Easily corrected if a more robust gasket is installed at the opening gate and another between the base Plate and the bottom of the camera.

A real difference in comfort
I had never considered a product like this until I saw reference to it on YouTube. I dont need a battery grip because the battery life is sufficient, and it makes it so bulky, but for an upcoming Safari with longer lenses I thought the extra grip could help fatigue. Once I got it I was shocked at how much of a difference it made. I have smallish hands, but even then my pinky had no place to rest on my A7 iii. With this plate its far more comfortable to hold.

great sony a9 or a7Riii addition
Was worried that the water integrity might be affect on the bottom of the camera but it seems very water tight, like all really right stuff well made -small unexpected benefit is that the battery chambering adds about 1/4 air that you can disengage the battery from the sony body so you have no battery usage leak when not using the camera yet keep the battery sealed within the overall compartment requiring only you to push the battery ho0me when you want the camera functional - easily allows tripod mounting - a smart accessory to purchase

The best base plate
I first ordered a cheap full L bracket from China for my Sony A7R3. It took forever to arrive and when it did the battery door would not fit into the location on the base plate. The holes were the wrong size for the pins on the door and even when I held the door in place it didnt fit the cutout for the door properly either. So I bought just the base plate from RRS and it was here in just a couple of days, thanks to B&H. The RRS baseplate is a who... Show More

Excellent product
Bought this for my A7lll and it fits like a glove, relocates the battery door like it was meant to be and gives your pinky finger a place to grip! Highly recommend.

Poor Fit
This plate does not properly fit the A7R iii. It does not allow battery compartment to open and close.

Works as advertised and more
Fits perfectly to the camera. And the Battery opening can also accommodate the battery door. A nice touch.

a good alternative hand grip besides SONY's
I have both this base plate and the SONY's vertical grip with battery holder. Not quite fair to compare these two items but I believe a lot of SONY owner are getting this for the same reason. A little extra hand grip space for the "tiny" small body to ensure stability. In terms of this, I prefer the SONY's but the RRS plate takes much less space which is my light travel favorite choice. If RRS can improve this base plate a little taller with pink... Show More

Perfect fit for a7 III with an exception
This is just like any other RRS plate. it fits perfectly and is machined to surgical precision. Where the plate fails is when it comes to the battery compartment. The door has to be removed from the camera body and installed on the plate itself. This is a Sony problem and I feel like RRS had no other viable choice in creating this. I would defer to their engineering expertise on this matter. I tend to leave the plates attached to my camera at all... Show More

No More hanging pinky
I bought this for the A7iii and it fits perfectly, a positive side effect of this is that I no longer have a hanging pinky, for me this makes the a7 series more comfortable to use. RRS products have always been solid and with consistent tolerances.

Not perfect
Although its a nice feature being able to mount the battery door on the actual plate, the camera its expose to dust and humidity due to lack of seals around and underneath, now, these cameras already lack seals on the bottom so I suggest being extra careful working near body of waters.

Fits the new A7 III perfectly!
I purchased this to add a little more grip for my pinky and also for the inbuilt arca swiss type baseplate. Repositioning of the battery door was a breeze and it fits well.

Typical RRS...Excellent
I bought this to provide a truly solid tripod mount for my A7Riii. It works well. The additional benefit is that it provides a bit of room that give one a much better grip on this small camera. One needs to remove the battery cover from the camera and install it on the base. This process takes seconds and the base never needs to be removed. Ease of access to the battery is unchanged. I have never had an RRS part that I did not think was excellent.

Perfect for the A7rIII
I used a JB designs wooden grip with a similar form factor as this one on my previous camera, the A7rII. It added some style and functionality. This RRS grip however, takes the cake! It is understated, perfectly built, and with the dovetail built in, has really elevated function!

Perfect fit with a bonuses!
RRS camera and lens plates are perfectly machined and the plate for the A7RIII is no exception. What I didn't realize is how the addition of the plate makes the body a perfect fit for my hand; no longer does my pinky finger wrap under the body. Now, the A7RIII feels even better to grip. Having the hex tool inserted into the plate for quick tightenings of not only the camera plate, but also lens plates is sheer genius!

Nice Addition to A7RIII
As is with other RRS products, the quality is excellent and looks great. Unlike other models, you need to take the battery compartment lid off of the camera body and onto the plate. It fits perfectly and not only does it give easy and secure attachment to Arca Swiss type quick release mounts, it also gives the bottom of the camera protection from banging around and shallow pooled water. And the added thickness makes holding the camera a little mo... Show More
