good travel camera
i bought this as a replacement for my pentax k-01, which i had been using for years as my compact travel camera. i could easily carry the k-01 with 2-3 manual lenses in a small camera bag. over time i got tired of the limited usable iso range and lack of proper viewfinder making it difficult to produce good photos, especially with manual lenses. i was deciding between the kp and the k-s2 as a replacement as both seemed like decent crop frame slrs... One of the best cameras I've ever had.
I have had cameras around the same price from Nikon D7000, Canon (can't remember the model), Olympus EM5 Mark II and Fujifilm XT-10, all were great cameras in their own way. Excellent Image and Build Quality
The KP is replacing a K5, which was getting a bit long in the tooth. The KP gives much better AF performance, as the K5 hunted no matter what lens I used, especially in lower light situations. Images are rendered in accurate colors and seem to be "cleaner" than the K5 due to an updated sensor, I suppose. Build quality is superb as one would expect from Pentax/Ricoh. Good camera, but you'll probably need to calibrate the AF
I've had several Pentax dSLR cameras, the K10, K20, K5, K5 IIs, K3, and now the KP. Like most of those, the KP autofocus tends to front-focus with most of the lenses that I've tried on it. Once you've calibrated the fine focus adjustment separately for each lens, the images are very nice and smoothly tack-sharp with good gradation, at least when used with top-tier glass like the Sigma 18-35. Odd grip
I didn't spend much time with the camera, but I was impressed with its overall build quality and little bit of performance while trying it. However, I couldn't get over the grips. I tried all three and couldn't find one that was comfortable. I tried pairing it with an 18-135mm and it was top heavy and a bit unbalanced for me. Love at first sight
I wasn't really paying attention, as I continued to vacillate on the K-1, and the announcement took me as a surprise, but as soon as I read it I was very interested. Flimsy build
I like small cameras and Pentax DA limited prime lenses and have two K7s I've been using for seven years often to photograph street protests. I've dropped each of them once on the sidewalk, banged them into light poles and the sides of buildings and used them in pouring Seattle rain and they still function properly. the camera I didn't even know I was waiting for
Love it. It's going to be the perfect hiking camera. The high ISO is a big improvement over my K-5, and I really like having an on-board flash. I don't want to carry a mounted flash while hiking--I have weight constraints due to surgery--so having a little pop of flash if I need it is very nice. very happy with this purchase
So far I love this little guy. I got it as a snapshot camera for hiking because of the long zoom and tiny size, and it's been perfect for this purpose. Great for that heron that stays far from shore, and so light and tiny you barely notice you're carrying it. IQ is fine so long as you remember this is not going to compete with a DSLR. Very good camera, but....
This is truly a great camera, with a couple of things I don't like. First, the camera is quite heavy to carry around, with even a single lens attached. It's not the heaviest DSLR on the market, but too heavy for my comfort (703 grams body only). Second, the B&H website incorrectly says the camera has an integrated GPS capability. This is simply not so. You can purchase an add-on GPS unit, but because it uses the one and only shoe position you can't attach a flash unit. This is why I am returning it. But I want to emphasize that it takes excellent quality pictures.

The Right Balance
I've been using the KP for about two months and have to say I'm very happy. The right balance of compactness and advanced features. I got it as a back for my K-1, but find myself using it more and more. especially for my street photos and travel camera. I recently took it to a local music venue in DC, the lighting was difficult at best. But, I got some great images at 3200 and 6400 and very usable. Super quiet shutter and fast accurate focus. I don't find the lack of a top display an issue. Love using the DA 20-40 Limited on the KP. Only downside for me is no IR.

A huge upgrade from the K-r
I bought the Kp and lens combo as upgrade to the K-r before a 2 week trip to Japan. The weather resistance came in handy as it rained during the trip. The viewfinder is large and clear. This camera has incredible low light capability. I found it producing great results inside temples and shrines where flash is not appropriate. The live view and adjustable screen was handy for shooting in crowds and markets. It's also nice that the Kp uses the same battery as the K-r. The camera has a solid feel to it. The only downside is that it's heavy.

May be my favorite Pentax.
I've owned the K10, K20, K7, and K3. I got the K-1 before the KP. The K-1 is a stunning camera, but I decided I needed something smaller for grabbing on the way out the door, and the KP is a brilliant go-everywhere camera. Its features are perfect for my requirements. I only have two complaints (and they aren't much). Pentax should have stuck with the batteries used by the rest of the line, and included a second card slot. Also: if you have particularly big hands, the grips included may not do it for you.

Great APS-C camera for serious photographers
My experience with the KP so far (2 weeks) is very favorable. Its noise reduction capability is outstanding, a big improvement over my K-3. Image quality stands up very well to serious cropping. I really lie shooting in the TAv mode which allows you to select a constant shutter speed and F stop while allowing the ISO to change as needed. In this mode, the KP with a 400mm lens (600mm equiv.) becomes a great birding outfit. Highly recommended. Will try to update this after more experience with using the KP.

Love this camera...
Pentax has really done it right with the KP. I had the K-1 which was great but heavy, especially with the longer lenses. The KP takes it down a notch in the weight department making it much easier to handle. It all comes down to images though and the KP images are stunning. I was leaning towards Fuji and still have a couple but the KP has bought me back to Pentax big time and will keep me with them for a long time. The KP rocks.

A little gem
Was looking for a camera and lenses smaller and more portable than my Nikons and this is it. The relatively slow AF not a problem I'm mostly a slow purposeful shooter. Superb image quality and features not found elsewhere such as pixel shift and in body stabilization, combined with the small, beautifully crafted limited lenses with outstanding rendering, this is definitely what I was looking for. Highly recommended.

My travel kit.
Very responsive body coupled with a zoom that delivers. Fast accurate focus, insane high ISO, how ever I do cap it at ISO 10 000. As far as handling goes, the lens is a delight, with great rendering worthy of being labeled "limited" The body, very compact, not much larger than my Super Program. The D-BG7 is a must with my large hands and it holds the Dli90 for extended battery life. Would I buy it again... yes.

Score for Pentax!
I have not had a chance to use this camera for what I mainly shoot, but I am very impressed with the performance and image quality so far. I love how customizable the controls are. It's definitely aimed at photographers who like to control the camera their own way. Image quality is stunning. The 16-85 is impressively sharp for a non-pro zoom. The shorter zoom range is worth the trade off for sharpness.

Wow! Just Wow!
Ive been a Pentax guy for about 10 years now. Decided to upgrade from my old K-x and was torn between this and the K-1. Being on a budget and really just being a hobbyist, I decided on the KP. Im so happy with my purchase. My old lenses have new life. While I really enjoyed the K-x, this is such an upgrade and at such a reasonable price, you definitely need to give it real consideration.

It is a delightful little camera
Great high-iso performance, improved autofocus, lots of nice UI improvements over the k-3 series. It's a no-brainer upgrade over the k-3 I used (and still own) previously. The interchangeable grips are a nice feature as well. It satisfies all of those people asking for a smaller camera, while improving over the previous flagship k-3 in almost every meaningful way.

I have had problems with using it and I have not been pleased with the results so far but I have not had time to dedicate to using it. I hope to have time tomorrow or Friday. I would like to be able to use it when we go see the grandkids open their presents.
