Transfer speed is limited when not in RAID 0

May 30, 2019

I thought the throughput of this thing maxed out at 2800mB/s. But that is ONLY when you put ALL 4 ssd's in RAID 0. I obviously didn't know and I think the description should clearly state that you use it as JBOD the read speeds are 750MB/s and the write speeds are 450MB/s even though my ssd's are rated at 2000MB/s read and 1500MB/s write. I am also using it with TB3--TB2 adapter on my mac pro 2013. Other than that, all is working fine. It is a nice small unit.

Great RAID

Mar 27, 2019

Purchased to help with Offload and transcode speeds when working with slower client drives for back up. Loaded up with 4 of the intel 660p nvme M.2 2tb sticks. In RAID 0 config getting sustained read/write around 2400 MBps over thunderbolt 3 on 2018 MacBook Pro and using Apples thunderbolt 2 to thunderbolt 3 adapter getting around 1300 MBps on 2013 Mac Pro 6,1 (The drive maxes out the tb2 lane) over all very happy with the performance for transco... Great way to get internal SSD speeds externally

Mar 16, 2019

So the trick with this unit is that your speeds increase with RAID 0 the more slots you fill. With a single 512GB SSD, I got 671MB/s write and 781MB/s read. Not bad, but certainly not in the 2,500MB/s range that I get with my Macbookss internal SSD. But, when I filled all four slots with 512GB SSDs, I got 2,024MB/s write and 2,470 read speeds which is very close to my internal SSD. One thing not mentioned, if your computer has TWO Thunderbolt b... Show More

FAST!!!

Feb 19, 2019

Installed (4) 2TB Samsung 970s in the drive. Downloaded the free Softraid XT Lite app and created an 8TB Raid-0 Drive. Its super-fast, getting 2,200-2,500MB/s transfer rates consistently. That said, each SSD blade is rated for 2,500-3,500MB/s, so its slightly disappointing not to get true Raid-0 performance. (In theory, at least, one could approach 9,000-10,000MB/s) The fan is not noisy, but definitely audible. If you like or need silence (ie. so... Show More

Forward-looking product, high quality, works very well.

Dec 3, 2018

Theres really not much out there to compete with this at the moment. While a fast single NVMe drive might come close to saturating the Thunderbolt 3 bus (and two certainly will), having four slots makes it possible to buy lower-capacity drives to reach terabytes of ultra-fast solid-state storage for a comparative song compared to, for instance, Apples prices to upgrade to comparable capacities. Ive always been a big fan of OWCs Thunderbay Mini, ... Show More
