Great compact tripod

Aug 8, 2015

This tripod is great for taking out for shooting when you need something portable: It folds up to a nice short length, fits inside its small bag, and is very light to carry around and easy to set up quickly. It is nice to be able as well to adjust the legs to different equal lengths and to easily bimanually adjust the head. The bag has a drawstring which can be used as a shoulder strap to carry on your shoulder.

Fustrating & Infuriating

Apr 26, 2015

Set up directions are in a Fustrating & Infuriating small font size as are the electronic drawings which are themselves in a difficult to read and understand black & white instead of color. Quick release plate is too small to use on the larger Manfrotto tripods. There's no way to adapt a fluid head to this tripod. Manfrotto offers essentially no customer support - takes them 2 weeks to answer an email.

Not as good as I hoped

Apr 26, 2018

I had a 828B Manfrotto that I enjoyed. It was stolen so I had to replace. I replaced with this. The handles are a pain and there is no set screw to freeze the swivel or pan feature. The handle for the horizontal position also freezes the swivel. If you do not tighten the handle the position of the camera could change. This handle does 2 functions. Not a good design in my humble opinion.

Amazing !

Mar 24, 2019

I have bought several Quick release plates over the past several years... but let me tell you... this Manfrotto Quick Release Plate is the fastest Ive ever encountered... its astoundingly fast ! The word Quick doesnt do it justice. In fact this Manfrotto Quick Release Plate challenges the very concept of how quick a thing can be. if your considering buying one... be quick about it.

Happy with my Manfrottos

Aug 9, 2016

Used it recently on a hike/ photo shoot, and loved the fact that it was light weight/compact, the legs were easy to set up and it offered a good height with stability for my Nikon D7000 and 18-105 lens. Will see how it handles a heavier lens .Still getting use to the adjustment handles which are a bit cumbersome, but should be fine with more use. Fits nicely in its own carry case.

Sturdy

Oct 26, 2014

I bought this tripod to use for video interviews. It's sturdy and well built for this price. The material it's made of feels quality. The downside for me is the two separate handles to adjust tilt and pan. Having to adjust two handles made it take longer to set up my shot, and it felt like a hassle. Also, one of the legs sticks a bit when adjusting the height, but its not too bad.

Great compact tripod.

Jun 19, 2015

Used mostly for shooting landscapes on the CA coast, long exposure shots, and in my ultimate selfie project. Folds very compact, also the center bar slides out to make it even smaller. Fits into a regular size backpack quite easily. The legs are very sturdy even when fully extended. The camera mount rotates in every conceivable direction. I can't think of a thing that I'd change.

Lightweight, but doesn't properly fit all Manfrotto heads

Jun 25, 2015

Lightweight, but I found it does not properly fit every Manfrotto head that uses this style plate. This lightweight version (200LT-PL) plate must be slightly bigger in size than its aluminum cousin, as it does not clear the locking lever even when the locking lever is fully released. I had to use a small straight-slot screwdriver to pry the plate from the head.

Good choice

Oct 14, 2019

I had been using a Bowens heavy duty tripod for years. It was great for the 4 X 5 & 8 X 10 cameras, but now this thing is excellent for shooting real estate. It's light, very easy to use, and I should have gotten it years ago! It comes with it's own bag to store or carry it in and you can lock your camera right into it using the Manfrotto quick release plate.

Poor pan/tilt motion, not fluid

Mar 28, 2016

If you need a cheap tripod, you can go cheaper than this and get a similar quality. I bought this thinking I could get fluid pan/tilt motion, but it wasn't smooth at all and not workable for a video I was shooting. I went back to using my old Rocketfish tripod (that has a leg fastener that's loose, hence my search for a new tripod), which is much sturdier.

NICE IMPROVEMENTS ON PREVIOUS MODEL

Sep 16, 2017

Great tripod head. Bought it to replace an 804RC2 that got run over by a car, not a pretty story except that the tripod survived unscathed. The collapsible handles are great, especially for packing in up. It fits with the mounting plate from my old head, which is convenient for 2 cameras or for a camera and a telephoto lens. And it's pretty light.

Solid Mounting System

Dec 24, 2017

This Manfrotto quick release system is great. I have two releases one on my tripod and one on the monopod. I've put plates on both my cameras - Nikon D800 with battery pack and the Pentax 645z which has two mounting points. I also bought one for the Sigma 70-200 lens mount. A very stable mounting system for all even with the weight involved.

Great tripod for price

Jul 1, 2015

I teach journalism at the high school level and have students working with gear all year. Manfrotto tripods are a great value for basic functionality. They are easy for anyone to figure out and set up, light weight for mobility, and get the job done. Of course, a better head for video would be nice, but for the price, we make this work.

A review that's (not quite) on the level...

Feb 22, 2017

Good, light, small travel tripod. As noted in other reviews, the lack of a built in level is one big drawback. I travel with a tiny level, but it's an awkward way to make sure the shot is set properly. The big upside... it packs easily in a carry-on bag, and it straps easily to the side of my camera backpack. In short I'd buy it again

Great lightweight tripod for travel and ease of setup

Sep 3, 2016

I bought this tripod to use with my 15x50 binocular.I have 6year and 4year old grandsons who like to view moon, juster and galaxies using this bino. The tripod is easy to set up . I am able to adjust height and elevation to make it comfortable for the little guys. Loads of fun. The tripod is not meant for use under windy conditions.

unhappy

Mar 6, 2018

I never write reviews but I have not been happy with this tripod. A piece broke off of it within a couple of uses and the handles are all on top of each other to the point that I can't adjust the tripod. I'd been too many days to send it back to B and H so I'm looking into the manufactures warranty. I would not buy it again.

compact and lightweight

Feb 27, 2015

I was looking for a lightweight tripod that would be comfortable to carry around all day. My other tripod is rock solid and heavy, and it carries like a rock as well. Nice lightweight, had a decent head on it too, overall its a pretty good buy. I am sure I will be carrying it around a lot more than I was with the old one.

Great Product!

Dec 3, 2015

I've always loved Manfrotto equipment. Always built tough. I purchased this head to allow my complete assembly to fit in a shoulder bag. The extendable handles push in just enough to fit. I purchased this one over a cheaper foldable handle Manfrotto due to having a security button on the quick release. Very satisfied :)!

Very nice tripod

Jan 12, 2016

Very lightweight, easy to carry, has its own bag. I use it with a Canon Rebel camera. It is very easy to learn how to attach it and it has a quick release that works well. It is also very stable to be as lightweight as it is. I have used it in windy conditions and it has worked well and remained very steady.

GREAT LOW-PRICED TRIPOD

Nov 12, 2015

I use the tripod mainly for night and travel photography. It is a great low-priced tripod and very easy to maneuver. It is great to use and bring around with you. For the compact and lightweight aspect it is great for the price. I know how expensive carbon fiber can get. But overall this was a great tripod.

Good tripod, with a component to be aware about.

Oct 8, 2016

It's a good tripod for lighter DSLR's, but the compact part of it, where there are two levers on the side, don't hold up too well for heavier DSLR's. In fact, I found them really annoying in general because the tripod kept falling over to it's side. I would recommend getting a different tripod.

Great tripod for the money!

Sep 11, 2015

I use the Manfrotto with a Canon HFS100 camcorder that is piggybacked onto an XLR microphone preamp. The weight is no problem for this sturdy tripod and the adjustments of the head are super-smooth. No levels are included on the head, but this is a realtively minor inconvenience.

Total disappointment

May 18, 2016

This might work for photographers, but if you're a videographer looking for smooth camera movements and adjustments, this head IS NOT for you. Terrible friction-like feel and short stubby handles make it impossible to have a smooth control of your movements. Will never buy again.
