Sturdy very functional tripod

Dec 27, 2015

This tripod can do virtually anything you want- many positions and angles for shooting. When I opened the box it was longer than I had expected and maybe a little heavier. The heavier is from the very robust build quality that seems to never shake or move once it is set up, it also feels like it will never break even at the flip locks. I LOVE the 90 degree center column because I shoot a good bit of macro and it allows me to get close and sometim... Show More

Great Tripod

May 14, 2016

Love it! I've been playing with this tripod over the last few days since receiving it and I am not disappointed. It's got all the things I was looking for in a tripod. The legs have multiple positions so It can go from pretty tall (6' or so) to just a few inches off the ground. It's very sturdy which is what you definitely want in a tripod. The ball head works great, holds my 5D mkII steady and can be positioned however I want very quickly. The 9... Show More

Solid and easy to use

Jun 6, 2017

Feels very steady with my compact mirrorless camera, but is rated for and feels like it would be equally solid with something heavier. Definitely easy to open and close and to switch to horizontal. The quick release on the ball head is also very easy to use; it takes a few seconds to learn to push the safety lever (which prevents accidental release) with one finger while opening the clamp to insert or release the camera. The head works smoothly a... Show More

Solid build

Dec 14, 2015

I was in need of a new tripod as I had worn out my old one, and knew I wanted a solidly built Manfrotto. I bought it for its weight capacity, as my full gear can really stress a tripods capabilities. The locking mechanism and shoe mount are rugged and do not budge when merged. The design and functionality is a great match for the busy photographer. I like the ability to adjust the ball head easily and the friction adjustment makes it super smooth... Show More

Great tripod for travel and more

Jan 25, 2017

I bought this to carry with me on a trip to see the Northern lights in Alaska. I considered lighter, more travel-style tripods, but I decided I wanted something that would be good for more that that one trip. This unit is plenty light enough for travel. I was mounting a Nikon D5200 with an 18-200 lens, and the set-up was stable. It was easy to move quickly from inside to out. I appreciated the padding on the one leg, as it was -25 F outside, and touching cold metal would have been painful. Quick and easy height adjustment. Not the tallest tripod, but I'm only 5'2, so it worked fine for me.

Great Tripod

Nov 8, 2015

I have been a professional photographer for over 44 years. I have owned Bogen/Manfrotto equipment for most of my career. I must say, this Dual 290 with 90 degree center column is one of their best products yet. It is extremely sturdy with very modest weight. The articulating column and minimum height enable virtually any camera position. Maximum extension is perfect for a 6' plus photographer. The 496RC2 ball head is my favorite workhorse for DSLR. When doing video, I simply swap the ball head for my 700RC2 fluid head. Bottom line, Manfrotto equipment is built for function and longevity.

Great for Mirrorless bodies

Sep 13, 2019

This tripod is lightweight and great for my mirrorless bodies. I dont really use tripods a lot, but I do from time to time for restate and product photography. Ironically, this is my third Manfrotto tripod and this one is my favorite like the build quality and the design of this tripod. I really like the way the shaft can be extended horizontal that really helps when Im doing product photography. Ive used Manfrotto product for over 10 years they are a trusted brand for me, and this tripod is nothing less than I would expect from Manfrotto. It is a good buy and a solid product.

First Impressions

May 19, 2016

I just received this item yesterday. While I have not yet used it, my first impressions are excellent. The tripod is extremely strong (albeit a tiny bit heavy). It even survived B&H's poor warehouse management (see pics). This tripod goes nearly to the ground, and towers over my head. Even with the center post fully extended the tripod seems secure. My only gripe would be that when the center post is horizontally oriented there is no way to tighten/secure the center post. Overall GREAT first impressions.

Limited use tripod

Feb 12, 2018

This tripod is mediocre when it comes to taking pictures and impossible for video. Mainly because of the ball head and lack of adjustments. Manfrotto is a great brand for tripods, this one is not worth the price in my book. If I had the chance to do it over again, I would spend the extra money on a higher end model which allows tilts and rotation. Also a simple handle which would help control the head of the unit would be a wonderful addition.

Of all the low down things.....

Nov 28, 2015

.....wow, this can go really low...I love it! It feels very well made, the ball head action is nice and smooth once you realize there's an adjustment for that. It would be nice if it had a built in level but my Canon has one of its own so not a huge deal. It is also on the heavy side but for me that's a plus as my previous tripod felt unstable in a mild breeze.

Not shabby

Aug 7, 2017

I used this tripod on a recent trip to a family reunion. It worked great for what I used it for. The tripod is easy to fold up and move out of the way. I really liked the quick release on the ball head, it worked a lot better than other quick releases that I had in the past.

Great enthusiast tripod

Dec 18, 2016

Stable. Is overkill for my D3300 and holds my D810 well. Aluminum gets cold really fast at night and only has one rubber covered upper leg. Small enough to fit in a large carry on suitcase when the ball head mount is removed. Feels solid on the ground.

Excited I now have this in my gear bag!

Dec 29, 2017

I use this primarily for overhead flat lay shots. It's stable enough for my Canon 6D and a 24-70mm lens so I'm very happy. I might eventually get a sand bag if I shoot outdoors, especially if I use it at maximum height. But so far, I love it.

Great Tripod.

Aug 21, 2017

Great tripod, Holds camera steady. The only minor issue which is really me, I didn't realize that there were two sets of instructions, one for the tripod and one for the head. once I figured that out, smooth sailing.

Don't hesitate to buy this one.

I've had only one opportunity to use it so far, but was able to utilize many of it's features. Love the ball head, camera locking feature, and leg locks -- looking forward to using it in the future.

Sturdy and versatile

Good tripod kit. Sturdy but I have only used with up to 7lbs of weight. The ability to move the arm horizontal is amazing. Missing panning capabilities.
