Good Quality

Jul 7, 2010

I bought this for use for shoot and run photography. I often drive by a lake where there are some nice birds or a scenic place where I cannot get out and setup a tripod to take an HDR. This window mount lets me pull over and quickly mount a telephoto or camera to the window. As long as I shut the engine off and sit still, the window mount is pretty good. It is not a tripod and you are essentially sitting on your mount (the car) so camera shake ca... Show More

Almost a winner

Dec 22, 2015

Like all the other Manfrotto products that I have, this window mount seems well made, however, unlike the rest, this wasn't designed as well as it should have been. It works fine, it does hold my camera steady when I want to take a quick shot from my car. I'm using it with a mini ball head, and that's were the problem that I have with the window mount comes into play. The mini ball head is too small for this mount, or, the two set screws intended... Window mount that delivers the goods

Nov 11, 2013

You pay less for junk and you pay more for junk. This unit delivers more than you thought you wanted. For example, the extended curved lip goes on the outside of the window and allows you to toggle down on the window until the curve mates with the car, giving a rock-solid platform that is far beyond glass-only stability. Also, the stud is 3/8 brass with a large screwdriver slot for secure tightening. Beyond that- well, there is no beyond that- th... Show More

Great solid window mount

May 31, 2016

First of all, reviews about cameras tipping over are problems with an installed head, not this item. All this does is mount in between a car window or other flat surface and a tripod head. It mounts to my car window perfectly without damaging anything and I have my favorite tripod head on top and it works great. I have compatible plates on my spotting scope and camera and can quickly go from spotting to shooting. Works great for both.

Sturdy, quality mount for lighter camera & lens

Jul 2, 2015

This item will quickly stabilize a camera on a partially open car window. The clamp is made of heavy gauge metal that should last a lifetime. Also, great for a spotting scope. Only caution is that you should avoid the combo with the 234RC Tilt Head, because you won't be able to pan. I had to buy a smaller Ball Head than the Manfrotto 055 already owned because it was too large for the mount. Went with the 494 and it fits fine.

Just what I needed!

Dec 23, 2010

This Window Pod is just what I needed after buying the Canon 100-400mm L zoom lens. Taking decent photos from my vehicle while hand-holding the camera and the heavy lens proved almost impossible . The Window Pod and the Manfrotto 498RC2 ball head provide excellent stability for my wildlife photography. My keeper count has improved dramatically! As always, B & H handling of my order was hassle-free and prompt.

Unique camera support

Dec 6, 2011

This car window pod allows you to unobtrusively shoot wildlife from the comfort of your car. So do many others, though none quite like this one. This is the only car window support that allows you to mount a full tripod head with quick release. No other window pod does this. It works well and will not break the bank. I looked for just this kind of item for several years. Now I know it exists.

Well made, typical Manfrotto gear.

Fastens securely to the window. Only caveat is be sure your tripod head is not taller than four and a half inches as anything higher makes it very difficult to see through the camera view finder. A small ball head works better with the car window pod. I live near Yellowstone Park and many Wildlife Refuges. This is excellent for wildlife photography from your pickup or car.

Inferior with telephoto lens on camera

Feb 3, 2013

I bought this car window pod to take wildlife photos while driving the levies of Merritt Island Wildlife Refuge with my 500mm telephoto lens attached to the camera. It was a waste of $$. The weight of the lens made for too much weight for the device. It is better to roll window down half way and put a towel over the glass and rest your camera and lens on the towel.

Exactly what I needed!

Jul 19, 2013

On occassion, while photographing birds and other wildlife, I need to use my automobile as a blind. This car window pod allows me to do that effortlessly. Before my purchase camera shake was an issue from handholding my 300mm telephoto out the window. Very well made, solid and stable but not too heavy. Very easy to mount my tripod head.

Works as adverised

Feb 21, 2013

When it is below zero 'F, and I don't feel like trekking through the Provincial Park and freezing, I attach this product to my car window and cruise slowly, looking for birds and other wildlife to photograph. Even though the car window is open, I am comfortably warm with my parka on and the heater blasting away on high.

Meets my needs very well!

I use this mount for my Swarovski spotting scope mounted on my Giotto's mini-ballhead when viewing critters from my car. The Window mount is sturdily built compared to some flimsy other models I've tried. It's also effective for mounting cameras or binoculars as well----I'd buy it again and recommend it to anyone!!

Awesome clamp!

May 7, 2012

This is the best car window mount I've ever used. It's easy to put on the window and esy to connect your tripod head to it. Plus it can be used just about anywhere the clamp will fit. I'm buying another one so I can keep my spotting scope attached.

very well made

Dec 17, 2013

Very well made window pod. Made of heavy gauge metal and should last a lifetime. Rubberized on both flat side and the screw down disk to protect glass.Sometimes it's easier to use this instead of getting out of the car and setting up a tripod.

There are times when photographing birds and other wildlife, I need to use my car as a blind. This window pod was exactly what I needed. Not too expensive, stable but not too heavy, and easy to attach my tripod head.

Delivers the goods

Jul 13, 2017

For lightweight to midweight gear, this is the best- just make sure you have a first-class ballhead to hold steady enough. The heads typically supplied with it are not sturdy. For long and heavy, go with the Kirk.

Nifty function for the price

Jul 15, 2014

This item works quite well for what I bought it for, given the price. Limits your framing somewhat, but with a little warp stabilizer it gives me really usable results with super-easy set up. Glad I bought it.

Puncture Problems

Aug 2, 2013

The squarish corners on the inside tend to puncture leather on what i would call the window sill, rounded corners with some kind of cushioning would be helpful, aside from that it clamps very securily.

Good grip on the window. Feels very secure. Will use this when I'm chasing storms and need to fool myself into believing I'm safe inside the car.
