It is the best

Apr 14, 2019

I carefully read all the online reviews on tripod aprons (also known as stone bags). This Manfrotto is built out of premium materials like genuine leather straps, so it can not compete price-wise with products that use Velcro straps. I would not trust my lenses to a stone bag or tripod apron that used Velcro straps. Also, unlike conical-recess stone bags, the Manfrotto apron has three partitions (see picture) so you can put a lens in its own pa... Show More

A necessity for technical photo shooting

Mar 7, 2017

This seems to be a necessity for those having many tidbits for photography in the field. I'm using it almost exclusively for taking panoramic photos. I'm using a precision panoramic head that needs assembly in the filed. The apron provides a sufficiently reliable support for all the pieces, so that I don't have to go down and reach for them in my bag. Notice that you might need a large tripod to make a perfect match. I'm using a Gitzo series 5 ex... Show More

Durable, but not ideal

Dec 10, 2016

Apron is made of durable materials, especially the straps, but several limitations as already mentioned by other reviewers. I mounted this to my Manfrotto carbon fiber tripod for landscape photography to hold various items. The apron can be left attached if you're careful when closing up tripod, because the straps are too tedious to remove every time. When expanded, the apron pockets are a little small and aren't ideal for holding big lenses or camera bodies, but smaller stuff is ok. Price is relatively cheap, so I don't worry too much about it's lack of utility.

Sturdy accessory to stabilize

Mar 17, 2014

Product came pretty much as described - is made of hard wearing material and seemingly strong leather straps. Pros; - Good to keep your legs down when you need it - Strong design - Good value for money. Cons; - Can be cumbersome to take on and off - The compartments can be too small if you want to weigh down your legs Overall, it is very good value for money which seems like it will last. The only thing I would change is to perhaps make the compartments adjustable, so you could decide on the size of each section, depending on your intended use.

Nice but not a necessity

Feb 27, 2011

The bag is built really well and attaches very easily. It stays on the sticks even when folded up and doesn't take up much room. The design is interesting and it looks like it will hold quite a few items but I don't think I require it for filming digital at this time. Probably a purchase I should have waited on but for those who want to keep small items at hand (lens cap, white balance card, light meter, gaff tape, sandwich) this will do the trick and hold your items well.

Great Idea and room for improving

Aug 3, 2016

First off-- what a great idea! For run and gun stuff, this was very handy on a shoot where I toured with the client across the country and they did the same meeting at every stop. It's very simple and rugged. It has three sections, each can hold batteries, tape, lens caps, etc. I call it the tripod diaper. ;) My only comment is that in future versions, it would be nice to see a couple of add-ons-- a loop for gaff tape, small loops for markers and pens, things like that.

An extra pair of hands

Sep 11, 2008

We are an HD video production facility and use these aprons for all our field production items. We use two tripods, one for the Varicam, and the second to hold our portable HD monitor. The first apron we bought became so handy that we bought a second to put on the camera tripod. We carry all the little accessories we need quick access to during our shoots - tapes, batts, cables, cold drinks, etc.

Heavy Duty and Handy!

Apr 24, 2013

I don't know how I got by without this! This utility apron is made of heavy duty canvas and attaches with leather straps, as opposed to plastic clips. It's like having an extra set of durable, waterproof hands on set. I throw all the little camera bits, C47s and such in there. It keeps them from getting lost or damaged! There isn't anything I don't like about this utility apron.

My second one

Jan 28, 2013

I bought a video tripod, so bought another apron. This apron is like having an assistant standing by to hold whatever you need...a lens when it's lens changing time, lens cap, filter... Since I'm now shooting video and bought a video tripod, I knew I'd need another apron because who doesn't need another hand when shooting?

Beats loading up your pockets

Jan 27, 2010

This apron is one of the best things that I bought. Being a cinematographer, I work at a fast pace and the last thing I need is to be fumbling around in my pockets or looking around for my spare batteries, tapes, etc. This keeps all of your needed material close by at arms reach. I highly recommend this product.

Can't work without it...but

Sep 28, 2011

I love this apron because I can store anything extra in it as I do my job. OR instead of bringing in all my gear from the car I can quickly throw what I need in the apron for a quick shoot. However, this is the second one I've bought this summer! The first one tore and couldn't be fixed. Kind of disappointing.

Nice, but a tad small

Aug 15, 2013

I like this. It is good for putting accessories down when your hands are full and works quite well for stabilizing your tripod with rocks or jugs of water. The only downside is that I'd like the pockets to be slightly larger. But that shouldn't dissuade anyone from purchasing it, it is a great product.

required item for video

Jan 1, 2015

so many little parts when shooting video and really great swapping between 2 or 3 small primes since they fit in the pockets. also nice way of adding some weight down low with a light tripod. would rather have velcro straps vs the buckles but no big deal

Great price and useful

Sep 28, 2015

This is my second Manfrotto tripod apron. I bought the first one about 5 years ago for another tripod, and it is still working well. I generally set my camera bag on the apron. This keeps the bag up off the ground, and adds stability to the tripod.

Solid apron to support accessories

Jan 14, 2013

I use the apron to place a lens I want to change or just anything you need to get out of the way fast when the camera bag is not handy. Worth getting this accessory. A quick release method would be nice.

Sturdy and helpful

Sep 30, 2015

A tripod apron is helpful for those times when a bit more weight is needed to help stabilize the tripod. I set my camera case on it, and helps stabilize the tripod and keeps my gear of the ground.

Great addition to tripod

Jun 9, 2014

I got one of these years ago and wouldn't even consider ordering a new tripod without one. That's what I did, ordered a Manfrotto 055CX3 Carbon Fiber Tripod Legs and this apron at the same time.

i find 166 Tripod Utility Apron by Manfrotto very useful . It attaches to my Gitzo trypod safely and it can hold several lenses and other items thus freeing my hands . Excellent product .

This thing is great!

Jun 30, 2009

I just leave it on my tripod the whole time. It doesn't get in the way. I love that it holds my tapes and power supply of my camera while filming. I do wish it snapped on and off.

High Quality Gear

Mar 31, 2011

Just what you'd expect from Manfrotto. A serious piece of high quality gear. Works perfectly. A little stiff, but I expect that over time it will be perfect. No regrets.

A top accessory to own if you have a CPC mount or any mount. Especially if you have 2" eyepieces that don't fit on the stockbrack! 10/10!

Too small and shallow for gears

Sep 17, 2015

Finish is good but it is way too small and shallow. Wouldn't be good if you plan to put your lens or heavier gear in it.
