I purchased these cans based on several positive reviews and a reasonable price. They looked good out of the box and came with a nice case. However the buzzing, hum of the active noise-cancellation was too much for my ears. I expect silence during the silent parts. They might be okay on a roaring plane ride but not for less extreme situations. The background noise from active noise-cancelling technology is a ironic downer. I would suggest listening before buying any active set. Personally I am off to purchase a set with passive noise-cancelling such as the B&W P5 or Sennheiser HD 25 1 ii.

Good phones for the money
I would call these noise REDUCING, not noise canceling headphones. But they are really comfortable, reasonably priced, and work well. The cable is a tad bit short, but one can always purchase a replacement.I use these to reduce the amount of noise in my workplace while I grade audio assignments. The sound quality is really quite transparent, neither adding or taking away characteristics inherent in the sound. unplugging and monitoring through my computer sound system, or even the Event Studio 20 20Ps in the main room, I'm not hearing any drastic changes in frequency. Good enough!

Great sound wit a big BUT!
As the sales pitch says, these headphones really do offer great sound and effective noise canceling, and are more than comfortable for a cross country flight. BUT - the 4 foot stereo mini-phone plug to stereo mini-phone plug cable that connects the headset to your iPod/CD player/etc. too easily disconnects from the headset, and when you lose it, JVC wants $ - yes, $ - to replace it! The recessed port on the headphones makes it hard to buy a third party cable that fits. That is enough to knock this set down from 5 stars to 2.

good performance for the price
The headpones have good noise isolation, but not 100%. I bought them for a trip to China and are my first set of noise cancelling, I read alot of positive reviews against Bose and for 200 usd less. They help alot to reduce noise but still I can hear certain plane sound. I use to taka my old shure earphones, and the JVC are alot more comfortble and hugh sound diffrence. I don't like the plastic feel, the material seems to me brittle and fragil. But this also makes them lighter.

Great Headphones
I have used these on a two week trip to Japan, and a several hours on the lawn mower. They have worked great for me. Noise cancellation is good. They are comfortable. Sound quality is great. Others find the cable to short, but I think it is just about perfect for a plane ride and mowing the yard. I am 6' tall and put my MP3 player in my front right pocket. The cable is just right even with deep pockets. They are an awesome value for the price and I highly recommend these!

Good value for money
I've just had these headphones for a few weeks now but I'm quite happy with them. Sound quality is good and the noise cancellation works well blocking out most annoying sounds but also allowing one to hear some background noise. The only negative would be life of the battery. It appears the noise cancellation takes a lot of juice. I got about 6 hours of play out of one AAA battery (this was the battery provided in the package so that may be the issue).

Two thunbs up!
Very good headphones for the price. If you can't afford the bose quiet comfort then these are the next best. Would be nice if they fit around my ears better, but maybe I have big ears. Anyways I liked the headphones, with the case and accessories. Just be careful when you put the battery in the right headphone, can be a little tricky! Otherwise very good product for this price. Very decent price for good quality headphones.

Good in noisey neighborhood
I wanted these to listen to podcasts while doing chores and errands. So I was not that concerned about its ability to render perfect tonality. They do sound better than earbuds for music, that is sure. They are perfect to be able to listen to podcasts when vacuming and walking around a noisy neighborhood with the subway and vehicles going by. But still allows for you to hear enough traffic noise not to be dangerous.

A swell product
Thus far, I am very satisfied. I've had two Bose noise cancelling headgear and find the JVC superior. More comfortable, less cumbersome and I like the idea of being able to listen without having to turn on the noise canceller. don't know how long the battery will last but it's replaceable. I do find that ambient noise level is a bit high. but once the music starts, I'm in my own JVC world.

very good product for the price paid
shop comparision of the Bose headphones and these are very similar in perfomance. Spent a peaceful transatlantic flight and they cut out most of the aircraft noise and allowed me to listen to music at a low volume level. The included airline plug did not fit the aircraft as it had 2 fat connectors versus the airline 1 fat 1 thin but even on a single input they performed well

Make flying bearable
These headphones were the best gift I've received in ages. The sound is great, they're comfortable, and the noise canceling feature allowed me to sleep for several uninterrupted hours on a trans-continental flight. I can't believe I ever flew without them! I've never tried the high-end Bose noise-cancelling headphones so I can't compare them, but these are excellent value.

Well designed, geat buy
I have had to throw away a number of headphones with permanently attached cords that plug into an mp3. The problem is always that the cord breaks down, usually around the plug, so I only get sound in one ear. This headphone sounds great and has a cord that detaches, and I presume that it can be replaced. So the headphones should last much longer.

Nice Headphones
I use it when I'm doing film editing, when noise cancelling is ON it doesn't block out all the sound but once u start concentrating. You lose all the ambient and all you can hear are your thing your playing fro ur headphones. Helps concentration, nice crisp audio quality. Stil haevn't find a comfortable way of wearing for aLONG period of time...

Great value for the price!
I refused to spend over $300 for headphones, so when I saw so many great reviews for these as compared to similar Bose models I thought I'd give them a try. While they don't block out 100% of the sounds around you (I haven't found noise-cancelling headphones that do), they offer great sound quality and block probably 80% of airplane noise.

great headset
I use the headset when studying at a cafe, or in the house when I want some isolation. The noise canceling is very good, and the sound quality is excellent. Previously, I was using nice earbuds but the bass and clarity of this headset is much better. I tried the headset at the gym, but it was a little too warm to wear it while working out.

Great Headphones!
I tested these headphones on a flight from the US to Switzerland. They kept their promise to cancel most of the airplane noise, so listening to the on-board entertainment was really enjoyable without having to turn on the volume. They are also really comfortable to wear during multiple hours. In my opinion great value for the money!

Compact, comfortable, and stisfying.
The JVC HA-NC250 headphone set was purchased for use listening to voice recordings during daily meditation, and also for listening to rock and classical music during travel. Altho the earcups are small, they are quite comfortable. The sound range is very wide and yet balanced. The noise-cancelling effect is more than adequate.

Must have for travel and work!
First chance to use these was on a trip home from Christmas and I noticed in the boarding area that there were 11 kids under 5 and a dog about to get on the plane. I started dreading the noise and crying that would ensue but I didn't hear a single noise after I put my headphones on. It made my flight 100 times more enjoyable.

I like them
use these with my iPod. Didn't like sticking earbuds in my ears but didn't want big earmuffs; these are compact and lightweight. I think the sound quality is fantastic (this is also the most expensive set of headphones I've ever purchased though good value at B&H). Noise cancelling works, but have yet to try them on a plane.

Very Good Product For The Money
I have been using these for 6 months now. I am a trans-atlantic pilot and wear these on my break. Very good noise cancelling, light and comfortable. Comes with a nice case and battery lasts a long time (I've been getting about 10-12 hours out of a single AAA). Greatly improves movie audio quality over standard headphone.

Nice size - Nice sound
Always hard to tell the size of a product on the web. These are a great size of headphone for desk work and on the road. Very nice case to protect them when not in use and not too large that it can't be put into a large camera case or good-sized laptop bag. My first time with noise cancelling and now I'm a fan.

Puppy Gifts
My husband had a pair and loved them. Used them for plane rides and just listening to music over his computer while the TV was on in the room. Said they cut the back ground noise just as well as my Bose did. Then the new puppy got hold of them. Pooch will be gifting him the new ones for X-Mas. Happy holidays.

Great on airplanes
The headphones fit nicely over the ear and are comfortable on long flights. They almost completely drown out the sound of the engines and they do completely cancel conversations of other passengers. The case is a bit large, but it is protective and it fits an iPod comfortably. The sound quality is very good.

pretty good
I used the headphone while flying back to Europe. Great sounds, very good canceling function. After 9 hours using it, I can say that my ears felt sore because of my glasses pressed on my head by the ear pads. I had already one of previous generation more comfortable but less effective. Good product.
