Palm Power

The Sony RX100 VA provides incredible capability in an unimaginably small profile. I debated long and hard whether to purchase the RX 100 VII, but opted for the faster lens. I owned the original RX 100, until it died. The incremental upgrades between the original and the VA have become a quantum leap. The view finder two step action is not bothersome. The increased focus tracking and video tools add to the allure of this camera. My other gear inc... Show More

Exceeded all expectations.

This camera is a superb walk around camera. The lens and resultant image are incredibly sharp, fast focus, good color rendition, good exposure. Images want little time spent in Lightroom. And, it fits in my jeans pocket.

Amazing

Jan 25, 2020

Upgrading from the model 2 to the model VA is a stunning step in image quality. The lens is sharp as a tack and focuses fast. The output JPEG desires very little tweaking from Lightroom, which is good as my copy of Lightroom does not support this RAW. This camera is going to get a LOT of use. The menu structure and My Menu really make it easy to set this camera up. Full thumbs up on this one.

No macro or closeup capability

Jan 14, 2020

The camera reviews for the RX100 omit that the camera has no macro mode. I have resorted to taking my old Lumix DMC-ZS40 camera when traveling instead as it does have a macro mode that allows for taking closeups of small objects. That a P&S camera that was released in 2014 and sold for $450 has this capability but not a 5 year newer camera that costs twice me more than twice as much is difficult to understand. I could care less about the video ... Show More

Best Point and Shoot Camera Technology - A Sony Gem

Dec 28, 2019

This is the third DSC-RX100 I've had and every time I need to replace it I find that this model is still the best. I lost the first one, broke the second one so I just received the new VA. The photos and features are outstanding and it takes better movies than my Canon T6i. Sure, its more expensive than the other brands but for the few extra dollars its well worth it. And not only was B&H about $35 cheaper than Amazon, they threw in a $75 camera case to keep me from breaking another one.

Great pocket camera for landscapes and portraits. Fast lens.

Dec 15, 2019

I own a DSC-RX100 1 that has a 28-100/1.8-4.9 lens, which is not quite wide enough for some landscape shots and is too slow for low-light photography when zoomed. My new DSC-RX100 VA solves those problems via its 24-70/1.8-2.8 lens and its BSI sensor.

Great for Travel!

Aug 21, 2019

I consider myself a pro-amateur photographer. I'm a very petite young woman, so traveling and walking around with my A7III isn't an ideal vacation for me. I got this camera so I could take street photography images and document my vacations. It easily fits in my pocket and allows me to capture great images. Is it the same as using a regular Sony mirrorless? Not really, at least not for me. I do tend to use it as a point-and-shoot like a regular c... Show More

Perfect holiday vacation camera

Jul 15, 2019

This camera is the perfect travel camera. Great fast lens and fast autofocus allow it to capture photos in museums without flash or worry. Even at the very dark International SPY Museum the pictures were beautiful with black blacks with no noise. 24-70mm is great and never miss longer lens because the speed of the lens is the thing. I alway leave the digital zoom turned off on every camera but not with this camera. The digital zoom is the best t... Show More

The Best Small Camera on the Market!

Jun 11, 2019

I have been a photographer all my life and used many different brands and models of both film and digital cameras. In recent years, I developed a bad back and wanted a much lighter package than heavily DSLs to carry around. iPhones, though good, dont always cut it. I used micro four-thirds for a while but even though were too heavy. After much trial and error, I decided on the Sony DSC-RX100VA. It is light weight (about 10 ounces), makes excelle... Show More

Great little camera!

Jun 5, 2019

Has all the functions of the mid range DSLR + the panorama ability, although a bit unreliable in the pan function 1 out of 4 or 5 tries on panorama didn't take. Documentation and menu choices are a small problem in that there are some functions not very intuitive and the online (downloaded) user manual is somewhat confusing. Pics however are great! they are tack sharp and focus is easy and colors very accurate. Takes wonderful pics to rival my Nikon d 5500! The only reason for the 4 instead if 5 is the menu system and documation

Very good small camera

I purchased this camera to take indoor pictures in low light and it does a very good job. The trade off was giving up much telephoto, but I knew this when I made the purchase.

I Purchased a second one

Feb 18, 2019

My RX100 V was crushed by a car (finished it). I have had many cameras and this was my best-- always with me. Had to choose replacement-- RX100 V (f1.8) or VI(200mm). Price was not an issue. Lightroom showed all my RX pictures at 1.8-2.8 and separately at maximum zoom (70mm). Clearly I use the faster aperture and rarely wish the zoom was longer. So, easy decision, buy another RX100 V.

A very nice camera but not for me

Feb 13, 2019

I used this for a week in Mexico shortly after getting it. It is a nice camera, the photos were very good, but at the end of the day I could not get used to the electronic viewfinder, the size of the buttons, or the menu structure. Thus, I am returning it. I always have used larger cameras (Nikon and Olympus) with larger/brighter viewfinders and larger LCD screens and assumed that I could get used to the small viewfinder and smallish LCD screen... Amazing compact tech

Feb 8, 2019

This little camera has great IQ for the sensor size and packs a lot of stuff into a small form factor. The only minor irritant is the pup-up EVF which requires a two-step process of pushing down a little button and pulling out the front the element of the lens. I suppose that Sony has the laws of physics to contend with...

...once you get the hang of the menus. Very sharp images and fast lens makes this the perfect carry everywhere camera. The camera body is so small that a comfortable and confident grip can be a challenge. Fortunately Sony makes an add-on AG-R2 attachment grip, that should be included, but isnt. Dont purchase the camera without this inexpensive accessory.

Over the years I have purchases RX100s for travel to take along with my Fuji cameras. The RX100 goes in my shirt pocket and I have found that I pull it out on the streets of Rome, Paris, Fez, Barcelona all the time. But when get home I sell them and just use my Fuji cameras. But this VA has really won me over. It is now my main street photography camera. Not going to sell this one.

Mind-blowingly good

Nov 17, 2018

I have several Nikon APS-C sensor cameras and a couple of really good lenses that I use when I go out to make art. I Love these Nikon cameras. I bought the Sony RX100 VA (after months of ruminating and research) to replace my old pocket camera (Olympus XZ-1) that I liked to carry all the time. I wanted a true pocket camera that would enable me to capture photographs I could be proud of when great shots materialized. The RX100 VA turned out to be ... Show More

Best true pocket camera

Sep 6, 2018

I purchased both the RX100 V and the VI. Used them both in Europe for 3 weeks. I liked both, but loved the V. Key differences: 1. ND filter - included on the v and not on the vi - made a huge difference when taking outdoor shots. 2. Lens aperture - f/1.8-2.8 on the v and f/2.8-4.5 on the vi tested both cameras at 24mm and noticed a significant difference (v was the winner) 3. Zoom - 24-70mm on the v and 24-200mm on the vi.
