Sigma 17-70mm f/2.8-4 DC Macro OS HSM Contemporary Lens for Nikon F

Great Lens
Had put off buying this lens for a while now. But after buying it I know I should have bought it sooner. Very nice pictures without having to do a lot of adjusting. Fast and quiet focus. Great lens to place on your camera and leave all day.

Glad I added to kit
This Sigma17-70 MACRO filled a gap in my lens assortment left missing with old 60s vintage F-lenses that I really don't want to convert for *just mauna* applications. The auto focus is fast enough, there is no lens creep, standard observations of optic quality make me give it an 8 on a 10 scale.I took a leap of faith and received this on a Thursday, then shot (along with the Pros) my son's wedding on Saturday - starting at a whopping exposure #21 ... AMAZING! ASTONISHING LENS!
Packed well, shipped quickly. This lens is shockingly amazing. I headed to the park and put this lens through the test... macro on flowers, sharp on architecture... there are tall buildings adjacent to the park. I also had a model with me, shot her at the long end as well as wide. Bokeh is out of this world. This lens is extremely sharp at all focal lengths. This is now my new go-to lens. B&H rocks as always! I couldn't be happier.

great lens for its price
It is okay sharp, but when you using cameras that have very high resolution like 24mp, it is not sharp when zooming in100%.(center is really sharp, other than center, not really) focus is quit quiet and precise. focal range is quite versatile. most importantly, this lens has really really great control on glare. About bokeh, more better than a prime lens. But if you want the bokeh like a prime lens, this lens is not for you. afterall, I recommend it, especially for those have limited budget.

Excellent General Purpose Lens
This lens represents a nice compromise of speed, range, and weight, while being very sharp and affordable. It balances well on a T3i and the image stabilization is effective.

Just what i need
looks very nice and well balanced with my K5IIs, does very nice pics. i didn't want the very best bulky lens but i wanted better quality than a kit lens. The Sigma is exactly what i hoped it be. for the price it's a no brainer. only disappointment is that it don't come with a nice pouch like other Sigma lens.

Love this lens
I use my lens for landscape photography. We are going to Grande Canyon in June so did a lot of research on type of lens that would be best to have for travel. I have only had a couple of weeks but my pictures are so much better than before. I am able to get more in the frame than my 18-55 lens or my telephoto lens. I love taking pictures of my yard when flowers are in full bloom and so thrilled so far with the results. The lens cover sometimes gives you sun glare so a few times I have taken it off when I see that shadow on picture before I snap.

Sharp!
I'm very pleased with this lens, mostly because it's sharp across all focal lengths. Some are better at the wide end while others are better at the long end (most zooms sharp in the mid lengths), but this one doesn't seem to sacrifice one for the other. Distortion is relatively low for a 4x zoom, too. Build qualaity is high. If buying in the Pentax mount, be sure the firmware is current or be sure to have it updated. There was a bug which originally messed up the Pentax shake reduction at the very wide end. The firmware update totally resolved the issue.

Great new lens to the bag
I recently added this lens to my bag and have been very happy with it on my D7100. I has a great range for a walking lens and have been very happy with it shooting sunrises and landscapes.

Great Lens!
I am very happy with this lens. I bought it to replace the 18-100mm kit lens that came with my Nikon D90. It is lightweight, sharp and fast, and the autofocus works very well, too. It is my new everyday lens.

I am extremely pleased with this lens, especially for the cost. I've had great shooting experiences already with it, and I would recommend it to others who want a high quality, affordable lens.

Day and Night Performer
This is my first Sigma product which I paired up with a D5300. I have owned this lens for approximately three weeks and I have tested its performance in both daylight and at night. Out-of-focus areas have a soft satin appearance. I found that though at its widest the aperture is f2.8, it appears that f4 is the sweet spot throughout the focal range. At night it struggled a couple of times to focus, but once it got the hang of it it did not miss-fire again. I'm very pleased with its field performance and the image quality that followed.

A Great Upgrade
A very happy match for my new Canon 60D body. I shot most of my last wedding with this lens. I spent a lot of time shopping on line. Ideally one might want a Canon lens, but third party lenses are a great way to go if you cant foot the price tag of a Canon Lens. I love this lens, its wide enough for venue shots, fast enough for great quality images in low light and works well for portraits. High quality lens. I am very pleased with the results and more importantly, so is my client.

Awesome Upgrade
I did a lot of research before choosing this lens and I'm so happy with my decision. Very versatile, fast and sharp. You can do beautiful venue shots with available light, it has macro capability and works well for portraits. Love it. If you are not able to foot the cost of a canon lens, this is a great option. A great match for my Canon 60D.

Good Suggested
I asked the salesman for his suggestion as to a Go To Lens. He suggested the Sigma. He was not wrong. Takes great shots, light weight and the 2.8 and 72mm lens makes it a great buy

Meh
I love my Sigma 18-35 1.8, but I wanted something with more range, that was still wide. I figured I would try this 17-70. It's not an ART lens, but I knew that, and I knew it was 2.8-4. However I though that it would stop down naturally when zooming, like with my video camera, instead it's like digital hard stops. Now I'm often just reframing, but this is still jilting, and also it sometimes seemed the camera was trying to compensate for this, ev... Show More

Excellent upgrade from kit lens
I recently purchased this lens as an upgrade from my 18-55mm kit lens, and there is an immediate noticeable bump in photo quality. I originally bought the older version of this lens, but have since bought the newer Contemporary version, which is noticeably smaller, lighter, and with better overall performance. This lens is ridiculously sharp, decently fast at f2.8 at the wide end, and covers a good distance at 70mm. I find I use this while walkin... Show More

Good improvement over similar Canon lens
I matched this lens with my Canon 60D. I have been using this lens for the past couple months for landscape and wildlife photos in S. W. Colorado. So far, I really like the color that I get in my photos. The only problem, which is slight, is the focus at 70mm. Some photos are just not clear. However, his may be an issue with the lighting I work with here in the mountains or settings I use and not the lens. I have to work on this. I am not a pro nor can I use fancy language as others to describe this lens. I can just say I like better vs my Canon lens.
