Rock solid
I use this head in my laboratory to support heavy (10-15lbs.) high-speed video cameras. I need to be able to precisely point the camera at the target, and this head works like a dream. The movement about all three angular axes is very smooth, and I don't notice any backlash. The head is so solid, I imagine it could support a 25 pound camera when mounted sideways. No more loosen-move-tighten-redo-redo...you just dial in the angles you want. The ac... Show More

Making life simple in Australia
I use the Manfrotto 400 geared head for our domestic cricket series in Australia, we have 4 locked off HD cameras mounted up on scaffolding with a shot of the pitch including both wickets, the shot is required to be exact as it is keyed using a graphic representation of the wickets, this is used to show if the ball continued on its path, would it have knocked down the wickets. The geared head is fantastic allowing fine adjustment and getting the exact position on all cameras. I now own 8 units. I am extremely happy with this product.

The best heavy duty head for LF cameras
I use this head on Berlebach heavy duty and Gitzo 5530s tripods with both Sinar P2 and Linhof Kardan GTL cameras. And I feel myself much more comfortable with it than even with Linhof 77mm Levelling Pan/Tilt Head. The Manfrotto 400 Geared Head - has very smoothly movements and really easy supporting LR view cameras, as above. It's very useful for me in all kind of studio works especially I enjoy it at macro shooting. In a present time I think about buying one more Manfrotto 400.

Not for Hasselblad H
This head is super high quality without doubt, but I am having issues with the quick release plates. It seems to me that it is a design flaw, I've try all the combinations of screws and positions, but still could not firmly mount my Hasselblad H5D onto it, the anti-twist screw is just 2mm away from the hole on my camera. I have no such problem with Gitzo products. So I decided to return this and try the Manfrotto 405 Geared Head.

Rock solid, panzer feeling.
Use it for my Sinar P2 mounted on a column stand. Cast in stone stability. For smaller camera you will need an l bracket for Portait mode. The flip mechanism is replaced with micro horizontal adjustments wich gives maximum precision for those moment when the client wants you to match this exact angle. Highly recommended for large format photography.
