High quality, works / modification

Oct 10, 2014

Bought to go with MM294A4 Monopod. The unit is well made. It didn't fit Monopod, due to a washer on the base of the locking mechanism hit the base where camera attaches. I removed the pivot screw (with torx head)and filed the washer shoulder to the edge of the pivot screw opening on the washer. It now mounts on monopod without iterference. Probably voided warranty. Compact. Operation is extremely smooth. Though it is easy to tilt a monopod, I wou... Show More

Much much better than generic versions.

Mar 6, 2017

To be honest, I have a couple of these Manfrotto brand adapters and a couple of the generic cheapo adapters. I use them all, but the Manfrotto ones are definitely higher quality and I really do trust them in comparison to the generics. With the generics I feel like I have to hold my breath when I use them. I use these Manfrotto branded versions for my hand held rigs and any situation where I really need to know they are going to hold up and not give out. They work perfectly, solid construction, and piece of mind knowing they keep my equipment safe and are not going to break or fall to pieces.

Manfrotto Awesome-o!

Mar 9, 2011

I used this on my old Manfrotto 190D tripod and original 141 head. I was getting frustrated with the screw at the bottom of my tripod so I purchased this and it saved my life and lots of time. I can't recall how many times I missed something awesome because I needed my tripod but the mounting screw would not co-operate. I'm considering purchasing another with the other for my Manfrotto Magic Arm and camera mount. This is a must have for photographers who don't have this included on their current tripods or other camera mounts. It makes your life so much easier. I highly recommend it!

i have several of these

Jan 5, 2011

I use these as my main method of attaching cameras to tripods and other gear. They work great. The only thing I would point out is that the bottom side of the bottom portion (with the lever) has an area that extends below the rest of the plate. This means that if it is being attached to a large surface, it will not be flat, and won't work. Also, it seems that if you are attaching it to a tripod that has a second nub adjacent to the screw, it might not line up well as there is no hole in the plate to accept the second nub. Aside from this it works really well and feels very secure.

does not work with Manfrotto Monopod

Aug 13, 2012

I bought a Manfrotto 681 monopod and looking for a quick release adapter to put on. The quality of the 323 RC is nice, a typical Manfrotto quality. However, the bummer is that the pivot of the release lever extrude downwards, and it INTERFERE with the said monopod. To me, this is an disaster. I cannot believe that a product from the same company is interfering with it's own associated product. If not with the problem, I will give it 5 stars. The interference takes 3 stars off, technically it can take 5 all. However, guess I'll find another non-Manfrotto monopod for it.

It works!

Aug 29, 2008

What to say about a quick release adapter... It comes with a removable bushing in the base mount so you can put it on either a 1/4-20 or 3/8-16 screw mount, making it very flexible. Just don't lose that bushing! I bought this because I already have a Manfrotto tripod that this is compatible with. So this can get swapped around at will between my 2 camcorders and audio recorder. I bought this specifically for mounting a Sony PCM-D50 Audio Field Recorder onto a RODE DS-1 Desk Stand. It works perfectly for me recording either Sunday Church Service or Family History audio.

Highly recommended

Dec 26, 2010

I bought this quick release for my D90 and the several Manfrotto tripods I own. Now that I have used it, I will definitely buy more of the base adapters to mount on the other tripods. A really nice feature is the 'snap and lock' when attaching your camera to the tripod that your adapter base is mounted to. There is also a little lever that will lock the operation of the big lever that releases the lock of the two sections. It is quality built and mounts your camera sturdy, even with a 70-300 mm lens. I am very happy with my purchase and I highly recommend this product

Quick and Easy!

Sep 23, 2009

I photograph using ultra long lenses which need to be mounted to a tripod for support. The problem comes when I switch lenses and have to unscrew them from the tripod mount--this time consuming practice causes lost photo opportunities. I purchases this quick release mount with two lens plates. Now I can switch lenses in just seconds. The plates work exactly as advertised. I am extremely pleased with the product. The safety lock pin is an extra bonus which prevents accidental detachment of the lens. Wouldn't want to break that expensive glass would we???

What were they thinking?

Feb 28, 2012

I like the RC2 quick release system, have another RC2 ballhead and several 200PL-14 plates. I bought this to mount on my Manfrotto 468MG ballhead but the pin (on the underside) for the lever interferes with the mounting plate on the ball head. It also interferes with the plates on my Gitzo & Manfrotto monopods as well as the plate on my Gitzo 2541 tripod(if I remove the ballhead.) I put a large washer beneath it to provide some spacing but there is very little thread contact for the mounting screw. If the adapter was made 2mm thicker it would work.

Look at the notch and protruding screw BEFORE you buy this !

Nov 13, 2017

The NEW style plate fits and works in my older tripod head BUT the old ones will not fit in this new adapter/head ( they do not have the notched out area ) So, now I will have to get a few new plates for compatibility The build seems less solid as my old one ... but that is the case with everything made now ! I read that the protruding screw on the bottom prevents flat mounting this onto a tripod I see that as a major factor to look at before buying this ! ! ! I am using this on a monopod and it just cleared the tilt base that I already had on it

Works Great

May 17, 2012

I used this adaptor on my Glidecam XR-1000 in order to have a simple quick release adaptor. I additionally purchased a few others for my tripod and monopod. The adaptor is easy to install and works great. Now I can easily switch from all my various support systems when recording video. My only complaint, and maybe it's out there, but I wish that you were able to only purchase the adaptor and not the additional plate. Not a big deal as this is a relatively inexpensive component though. I just have an extra plate that has no use at this point.

Makes hiking with a DSLR easier

Aug 6, 2013

I have a base mounted on my 055CXPRO3 tripod and another base mounted on my current backpack. I attach the camera to the base on my pack while hiking and it is quickly removed and put on the tripod for shots in the field. I've come to rely on the stability and strength of the clamp to keep my camera from falling off my pack. I do however keep a lanyard around my neck and attached to the camera; just in case I don't clip it in all the way while on the move. The con is trivial as the base needs to be stout to handle the weight of the camera.

Small investment for a big improvement

Mar 6, 2010

I was tired of screwing and unscrewing my travel tripod to my camera while hiking. For a small investment, I quickly converted my tripod to a quick release version. It's a little wide but that assures you have enough footprint to securely attach the plate to the camera and lock it in place. Any smaller and I wonder how sturdy it would be. It's just the right size. It includes a lever lock (which you can put in the automatic position or put it in the off position). Another benefit is that the 200PL-14 plate fits my Manfrotto 728B tripod!

A Slightly Different Use

Jul 17, 2012

I purchased the Manfrotto quick release adapter to standardize all my quick release adapters. This purchase was for use with my Black Rapid camera strap. I've mounted the adapter to the camera strap connector, enabling me to quickly switch my camera from my shoulder strap to a monopod or either of two tripods, all of which accommodate Manfrotto 200PL-14 plates. The quick release adapter is a bit large and heavy to use with the camera strap. But the adapter enables quick transitions from a strap to a monopod or tripod and vice versa.

Use it on a Glidecam.

Jul 8, 2013

I needed a quick release for my 5D mmii on top of my Glidecam. It's lightweight and doesn't require much fussing with the balance. One problem exists in that you need to build a about a 5mm riser/buffer/gasket/shim to elevate it away from what you are mounting on otherwise you cannot operate the safety release as it will get trapped against the surface you are mounting the release plate to. I used a piece of hard rubber gasket material and cut it to the same size as the release plate, drilled a hole in it and it works perfect.

Fits tight, works great

Jan 17, 2011

I'm using this between my Nikon D90 and Davis & Sanford Trekker Pro monopod. It mounted easily to both the camera and monopod. Setting the lever to receive the plate is easy and when removing the plate you can set the lever to automatically snap shut the next time you install the plate. Fits nice and snug while coupled. There is no movement while shaking it. First time I tried this I did it over my bed incase it flew off! :) Works great, inexpensive and saves valuable time. Don't miss a shot screwing your camera onto a tripod!

Good quality but not versatile enough

Nov 11, 2013

I use this product for quick release attachment of my DSLR to a tripod. I am also planning to attach audio recorder to a rig through a 1/4 hole. This is a good system unless you need a flat base underneath it. Because it has a lever with a knob facing down, when you attach it to a plate it is not sitting flat. So I had to attach it to the edge of the plate. That works for my tripod but does not work for a Glide Cam, where I am trying to have DSLR sitting somewhere inside the Glide Cam upper flat base - not on the edge.

Didn't Fit with my Sachtler Tripod/Plate

Apr 8, 2011

I submitted a review a month back about how with the adapter attached the Sachtler plate didn't lock into place on my tripod head (despite being recommended by the Manfrotto rep for this purpose). I said I'd need to be careful ... but apparently didn't follow my own advice. The adapter and Sachtler plate somehow fell off the tripod head while I was travelling and now I'm left with neither. Wish I hadn't bought it in the first place ... Tripod is a Sachtler DV2 by the way (although the DV4 and DV6 have the same plate).

Very sturdy

Jul 5, 2010

I used two of these to fix a Panasonic GH1 to the rod support system. This makes it very easy to install an uninstall. The battery door doesn't opens all the way, you have to loose the plate from the camera a little bit before changing the battery, but it looks like it can be fixed with some machining mod, it only needs to be 1 or 2 mm shorter. Another thing you should have in mind is that the plate adapter is not flat at the bottom, so you need to install near the edge of whatever surface you are fixing it to.

Great for the price!

Jan 12, 2012

While i think most things in photography are a bit over priced, this is a great way to get a quick release plate for your own, DIY project. I put mine on a home made pano head, and while at 30 dollars it cost as much as the other parts combined, I value its ease of use. (this plate also matches my tripod so its use is seamless for me.) I guess the plate works fine... maybe a small amount of play in the way the mechanism grabs the part connected to the camera, but hardly a deal break. In all, i am satisfied.

Quick release for camera is handy

Apr 11, 2018

Following a buy of a Manfrotto tripod, I have equipped all my equipment with their quick release adapter. This purchase is for an eighteen-feet extension pole that I use for pictures at parades, vistas hidden by local shrubbery, and in this case, looking down to see layouts in a cemetery. As the camera is remote-controlled, it is helpful to have the camera off the pole to initiate the control setting while the camera is available sitting down, and quickly attached for the pole for taking the pictures.

Quick and Easy to Use

Aug 18, 2014

I'm a stickler for sharpness; so I carry either a monopod or a tripod with me wherever I go, but they can be cumbersome when the camera is attached, and you can fall on your face. So the preference is to keep them detached. The screw thread is troublesome and in some cases can cause real problems when it pulls out the adapter. So I bought these quick release device so that all my lenses, my Bogan monopod, and my Manfrotto tripod now have one. Connection is a simple snap and they are quite secure.

Very High Quality

Jan 18, 2011

I bought this to attach to the top of my Manfrotto tripod which only had the screw in adapter. I use it for my Olympus Pen E-PL1. Very high quality... Plate fits the PL1 fine. When the adapter is open with the button up you just push the camera and plate in and it snaps closed snugly. Then you can turn a small lever to lock it. Easy on and off and holds it very firm. Looks very sturdy and well made. Walked around last night trying it out and am very pleased with the purchase. Hope this helps.

Put them anywhere you need to mount a DSLR/DSLM camera.

Nov 11, 2019

These are great for adapting the small 200PL quick release plate to a variety of situations. Keep in mind that the safety lock mechanism extends a fraction of an inch below the main surface of the bottom of the adapter. You might need to use a spacer (riser) in order to mount it flush onto a broader surface. For example, I placed a small camera riser between the adapter and the 504P Long plate of a Manfrotto 502 Fluid head in order to allow the protrusion to clear the top of the side rail.
