Manfrotto MT055CXPRO4 Carbon Fiber Tripod with 468MG Hydrostatic Ball Head

Manfrotto Ball Head
I have used this with the Manfrotto 055CXPRO3 tripod. It is an excellent combination. The ball head gives you the freedom to set your camera in any position you need it to be.

Lightweight and sturdy
I use this with my Olympus E-410 both with a tripod and with a monopod (I have two). The camera is small so it doesn't put much demand on the ballhead but for my uses it works perfectly No cons I can see The extra dial on it is a definite upgrade from the older model. Its all black now so its looks cooler (used to have a silver ring).

Excellent Ball Head
This is a great investment. Frankly, I feel that ball heads are just as easy to use as joystick heads but are much cheaper and simpler. I considered the 498RC2 because I worried about not being able to pan perfectly level but found that the same thing can be accomplished relatively easily by rotating the center column of my tripod, plus the 496 is substantially shorter making it easy to fit in carrying cases. Clamping could be better but is fully functional and is not a source of irritation. Very fast set up and easy to use. I would definitely recommend for medium sized SLRs.

Not for the weak
I use the head with my Olympus E-510 and several lenses wide to long attached to a 190 tripod. After some experimentation I ended up setting it up for left hand use. All works well as expected, the only caution is the head does require more than expected hand strength to operate.

Simple, sturdy head
I purchased this head to replace an older version that got left on location. It's simple and sturdy and compact. I shoot both portrait and product based photography with canon 5d mkii as well had a hasselblad v system set up. It holds both camera solidly in place in vertical and horz positions with big and little lenses. Extremely versital! Great value for the money as well!!

GOOD DEAL
I'm very happy with this product, it can hold my canon 7D with the heavy lens 24-70L in any position firmly. simple set-up, good build in its range.

wonderful ball head
My previous Manfrotto ball head was not strong enough to hold the T2i and lens. This one has no slippage and holds tight.

Light and flexible
This is my first serious tripod head. I have a relatively heavy camera (Pentax K20D with a grip), so I was impressed by stability of a quick release and firm lock of the ball itself. New friction adjustment feature is very helpful. You need 2 hands to operate it - one pivots the camera by its grip, the other locks/unlocks the ball. You have to have the lock handle on the right side of the head for it to be convenient. I ended up tightening the fr... Show More

Simple, Rugged, Smooth and a Gem!
Manfrotto did it again! This is not the biggest ball head out there that Manfrotto makes but it does amazing things. I mounted this to my Manfrotto 680B Monopod and on occasion I use this on the Manfrotto car window mount when shooting from the car on a quick pull over and snap a few photo moments. In both cases the ball head is smooth and sturdy. The main lock is a quick tension release allowing the head to swivel in all axises freely. The small... Show More

Great Value!!
Complements my 190CXPRO4 perfectly. Small & lightweight, yet hard as a rock! Holds my heaviest gear without a problem. 5D MK II with 70-200mm 2.8 IS L & 2x teleconverter. No ball creep at all, as people complained to be an issue with the previous version. Loving the friction control knob that was added aswell, makes shooting easier.

Excalibur
Very well done and very stable. I bought it with the 190XB and the bag. Perfect kit for me. To top that, BH indicated me that there is a rebate (pdf) of 25 buck when you purchase head + tripod before the end of the month. This is a great product at a great deal.

Smooth but Unstable
The 391RC2 pan and tilt movements are fine. It is easy to control the movement from a smooth firm feel to a sports quick reaction with a little practice. Tension controls have a good feel and make of very controlled adjustments over all. However, the platform which can be flipped for vertical use is weak. It does not lock firmly so the camera slides too far one way or the other. It does not sit flat on the tripod. The weight of the camera (Canon ... Show More

So Cool and Easy to Use
Awesome product. I love the fact that my camera is locked on and I can carry it on the tripod. Very easy to use. Is not too tough to use the grip. Goes well with the 055XPRO.

Well Engineered, But Needs Break-In Time
Manfrotto makes quality products, and the 496RC2 is no exception. The ballhead is built like a tank as evidenced by its durable materials and straight-forward design. The ballhead moves very smoothly at all reasonable friction levels (controlled by the small knob at the base), and the locking lever locks down my camera (Nikon D300s w/grip and 18-200mm lens) with ease and confidence. There is absolutely no creep. I use this for everything from mac... Show More

Great to handle, a little heavy
this is a great head. very easy to set and change. only drawback i found was weight. i have a CX190 Pro which is 3 pounds and this is little over a pound, so it feels heavy but other than that its great. i guess the weight is justified since it can handle upto 11 lbs

Compact, simple, dependable
Great economical combination when used with 700DX legs. Holds a 300L lens with no problems. Simplicity is the key to this little ballhead. Needs a little break-in time but works smoothly. Yes, works well with sports and action when tension is set properly and lock is released just to support the weight - similar to monopod action.

Perfect? Yes.
The beautiful engineering has been repeatedly mentioned by many others. I agree. I'm writing to question some of the negative comments from some reviewers. Specifically, some have mentioned that the handle is set up for right handed use, which interferes with virtually every camera's right handed shutter release. I don't understand that complaint. The release handle is easily converted to left handed use with the enclosed Allen wrench and the enclosed (simple) instruction manual. It took me no more than 5 minutes.

worked great for a about a month or two
great quick ballhead, worked great for a bit until the inner part which grips the ball wore out. now it can be adjusted without squeezing the handle. even with little effort. i would not recommend this!

stable in windy conditions. we saw no movement through our 300mm lens. Very smooth and easy to control. holds the camera tight.

Great Experience
I have never used this quality of head before. I used it right away to take some still-life shots and the ease of use was amazing. The flexibility and stability are just what I was looking for. I can't wait to take it into the mountains.

I would buy this product again
This product is great. Getting the right tension on the ballhead seems to be the answer for me, I'm finding that the tension does not have to be tight and the hand grip moves nice.

A Love Affair!
There's absolutely no reason anyone who owns a Manfrotto should go without this grip ballhead! It's so easy to use and the fact that the grip can accommodate a lefty like me makes it even more appealing! Do yourself a favor and just click on add to cart. You won't regret it.

Wow!
I've only had this a couple of weeks, but I loved it right away. Easy, fast, simple, stable - what a great idea. I'm using it with a D700 and an 80-200 lens and it locks where I point it. Cool.
