Had it and Sold it

Sep 17, 2019

Weight was the big issue for me due to some physical restrictions when I purchased it. Did a nice job, but ultimately too dinky in my hands and limited controls. Replaced with a light weight Sony body and 35mm 1.8 lens. New set up is almost as light, a joy to operate, yields even better IQ. Just my story...but maybe this is right for you.

Neck injuries force me to sell my heavier cameras, but this is only a 1.1 lbs with battery and card. I hope an undated version will be a bit faster, but quality is excellent t

Nice photos,yes....

Mar 13, 2019

I had one of these for a day and it did produce lovely photos. My concern is,how important are nice photos of random objects? This camera is three thousand dollars...its not easy to earn three thousand dollars for most people. Or pay it off on your credit card. At some point people should really weigh the ridiculous cost of this photo gear in relation to its output. Does anyone use this camera to make money? Likely,no. You can take excellent phot... Simply Amazing

Feb 20, 2019

I really had to think hard about spending this kind of money for a camera. I have a Nikon with a good assortment of glass but I have left it at home a few times when going on a trip just because I didnt have room. I made a promise to myself to take this Sony everywhere--it rides with me to work and back on a daily basis simply because I have missed too many great shots in the past. The airplane photo I uploaded was taken from the ground o... Show More

Great Point and Shoot Camera!

Oct 28, 2017

I've only had this little camera a few days, and its very impressive in the first few days of ownership! The images are nice and sharp, the focus speed is superfast! Also nice in low light. The battery use is bad, they drain too fast! This is a feature rich camera, in a well engineered package from Sony. I bought the cheaper lens shade, its fine. I wish the lens was a zoom, and I'm looking for the level on the screen... My NIkon has the level, I'... Show More

The pics are spectacular as you?d expect with an A7Rii sensor matched to a Zeiss lens. The buttons are soft but definitely not a deal breaker. For everyday carry, I love it.

Impressive performance marred by terrible design flaws

Jul 30, 2017

The RX1R II is perhaps bet in class in terms of image quality, and has an excellent AF system as well. But it suffers greatly from Sony's institutional weakness in designing controls and software user interfaces. Aside from its pathetic battery life, this camera's convoluted and disorganized menus are infuriating to use, and Sony can't even be bothered to add a favorites tab where the user can store his most used settings. The camera's weight com... Show More

Extremely sharp image at 35mm setting, use the zoom and lose

Mar 30, 2017

Once you use the zoom the sharpness of the images is greatly effected....This is why the interchangeable lens camera will not be replaced....Much to costly a camera for being just a 35mm lens camera....

Great camera but one big reservation

Mar 28, 2017

I can add little to the positive comments about the camera. It produces great images. My first unit was replaced by Sony under the light-leak recall. The electronic viewfinder of the replacement unit failed (went from normal to garbled to inoperative in the span of 24 hours) after 13 months in normal amateur use (one month out of warranty). It's about a $600 repair (EVF replacement), with no assurance that this component is not a weak link of thi... Show More

Marvelously small and light for a full-frame camera. Images outstandingly sharp and color accurate. Fits my medium-sized hands perfectly. Completely delighted.

Great except............

Dec 4, 2016

I have had this camera for about a week now. I have really only had time to use it at night. I was really excited nonetheless to get out and shoot with this crazy little camera. The sharpness and detail rival my A7Rii but is even smaller. The screen is fantastic and the viewfinder feels super solid when opening and closing it. Focusing on it is very fast and accurate I only had one little hiccup with it back focusing on me in some odd lighting. T... Show More

Exceeds parallels with high-end professional cameras

Nov 6, 2016

While digital technologies continue to be perfected with professional camera use and their widespread applications, the latest Sony RX1RII fixed Zeiss lens camera (other cameras allow long-lens variants) exceeds expectations, especially when printing work on a large scale (with the Epson Stylus Pro 9900). While some relatively minor imperfections exist as with all cameras that professionals adjust to, the expansive quality of color, remarkable lo... Show More

Disappointed

Oct 27, 2016

I purchased this camera a few months ago. I love many things about the camera but it destroyed two of my new Sony memory cards and I lost two hundred images that couldn't be recovered. Including two images that were in the top ten of the recent Australian Photography Awards. I then realized I only have a US warranty and Sony Australia won't stand by their product in Australia so I now have to bear the expense and risk of shipping it back to the U... Show More

Most versatile camera !

Sep 6, 2016

Excellent performance in low-light / high-ISO situations due to full-frame sensor and sharp 2.0 aperture Zeiss lens. And, with 42mp, can easily crop image to many times original size without pexelization or noticable loss of quality. Easily the best camera I've ever owned (and I've previously owned the Sony NEX6, A6000 and A7s). Strongly recommend adding the fotodiox grip to the RX1r2.

My Back Thanks Sony

I have finally found small size and amazing IQ in one wonderful package. Does it match my huge, heavy Zeiss Otus 55mm? Of course not, but it's not meant to. The images from this camera, especially in macro settings, are deeply satisfying and meet the high expectations of this fine art photographer. At age 64, I'll be enjoying travel a lot more now that I won't be returming home for a string of appointments with my physical therapist. I walked 6 h... Show More

DSC-RX1R II, oh how I love thee

Aug 3, 2016

Man and camera, a beautiful thing. I've used a Leica M-2 with a 35 mm f/2 lens for decades. The M-2 has the feel of quality. When I picked up this camera, I thought, Oh, the M-2 reincarnated for the digital age! Several hundred pictures later, I feel the same. The DSC-RX1R II (Sony--must the name recapitulate the camera's phylogeny (and please ditch the Roman numerals)? Try something like DSC-5, please.) Light to hold, quiet, quick to use. Beautiful optics.

I'm an artist, a photographer. I been using a canon 5d mark ii for the past 7 years, with canon prime lenses. But I wanted to have a pro camera in a small size which I can take with me everywhere, with out carrying so much weight. I read many reviews as I could find, and I finally decided to buy it. All the week I've been shooting most of the time in RAW, and I am absolutely so happy for my decision. The quality of the images are GREAT. Super sha... Show More

Excellent Camera

When my wife and I decided to join another couple for a walking tour of northern Sicily this fall I was faced with a dilemma. I have a Nikon D810 with lots of glass. Excellent camera, but it is big and heavy. This trip is not a tour to engage my compulsion for taking photographs of every bird, person, flower, insect and building. Instead it is a time to enjoy the company of friends, enjoy the landscape and the food and take some photos. I also di... Show More

Impressive but not a point and shoot

May 15, 2016

You have to accept the fixed lens limitation and zoom with your feet. Sometimes that's possible, sometimes it isn't. You also have to have good technique because all of your flaws will be magnified by the massive sensor. You probably will have to add accessories to improve its usability: grip bracket, hood and thumb grip. But the resolution is unmatched and if you are very careful you can produce spectacular images. One more thing: get lots of extra batteries; this think burns thru batteries like there's no tomorrow.

Great Resolution but Hard to Handle

May 15, 2016

Requires great technique to master the huge sensor. But if you can master your approach you will be rewarded with amazing images. You may need additional accessories like a grip, thumb grip and a hood and lots of extra batteries as this little camera eats through them like there's no tomorrow.
