Great for slide scanning
I thought about buying the V700 or V750 that can scan 12 slides at a time. The V600 only scans 4 at a time, but I have more time than money. It has an LED light source, so it comes on right away and should last a long time. The software works great and came with Adobe Elements 7, wich I used for a couple of shots to flip the image ( I scanned the slide in backwards) and to adjust a horizon that was not completely horizontal. I have only done 500 ... Show More

Best photo scanner under $800+
I have been looking for a good photo/film scanner for a while and after a lot of research I finally went with my first choice. The epson V600 has been more then I expected. It is fast and clear and has a great software for film negative scanning. The included frames for both 120 and 35mm film are great. Over all set up is easy and the whole experience is extremely user friendly. I would highly recommend this scanner to anyone serious about shoo... Show More

Works great on negatives and slides
I initially purchased this to digitize paper records in the process of going paperless. It's great for that. The surprise was the ability to scan negatives and slides! I had some black and white negatives of photos I shot of the 1981 Iditarod. I had printed contact sheets at the time but the negatives have sat in an envelope in a filing cabinet until now. Although they were not stored properly and are scratched, the scans came out beautifully. Fi... Show More

Don't under estimate this scanner
Years back I had a dedicated slide scanner which has seen it's better days. I needed a scanner that could scan slides and negatives besides prints. Enter the Epson V600. I liked the fact of LED so no warm up time plus the included Digital Ice for both transparencies and prints. I'm running Vista 64 and have no issues with the scanner operation. It's relatively fast and the built in color restore and digital ice just amaze me in how good they work... Show More

Great scanner so far
I purchased the V600 after exhaustive research. It seemed to be the most bang for the buck. So far, I'm happy. It's quite, attractive and scans at very high resolution. Most of all, it works with Win7 64 bit. My previous fully functional HP scanner would not and Hewlett Packard announced they would not make a driver for it,model 4300c, to ever function with Win 7 64 bit. Therfore, Hewlett Packard has lost a customer and Epson has gained a custome... Show More

Scanning Photos has never been simpler.
My wife and I bought this scanner to scan old photos, slides and negatives. Immediately after getting the scanner I took it with me to my mother's to scan old photos. I opened the box, installed the software, took a quick look through the instructions and began scanning. In just over 1 hour I had scanned in over 70 photos. The black and white photos, which were more than 60 years old, looked like new after the scanning them in. The scanner took o... Show More

Finally works OK
Operates similar to my old 15 year old Epson scanner. Very disappointed that I have yet to be able to scan anything at 6400 dpi as advertised. When I first started it up I kept getting an error telling me it wasn't connected to my computer. I uninstalled and reinstalled software and got the same error. It turns out to be one of the settings in Professional mode when scanning positive film (slides). Changed several settings and finally got it to w... Show More

Great way to digitize your old images
A good scanner for the price point. I have only used this scanner for a couple of weeks, so this is a preliminary review. The setup was simple and quick. The scanner is well constructed. The first picture I scanned was an old 3x5 from the 70's. The resulting image was far superior to the original. The other pictures, done in both B&W and color, have come out as well or better than expected. The only negative is that for several scans I wanted the... Show More

Scanning 1960s-70s 120 format slides
I have hundreds of framed 120 format square slides that I wanted to digitize. The included large format film template will hold 3 of them once the hinged film frame 'door' is removed (the template is intended to hold film - not framed slides). Some cropping is required and you can set up a scanning template for your slide format size (the software sometimes crashes if you try and scan 3 slides at once - so I scan individual slides by 'moving' t... Good scanner but very poor software
I have used Epson scanners for 15 years. I wanted to upgrade and so I got this scanner. I am pleased with the hardware, but the software is so BAD it is incredible. I am using it to scan old color prints. I open the software, ask it to make a print, and the scanner software goes away. I have to open it again to make another print. This is bad, but not the worst thing about it.\ The scanner started making two copies of the same picture. I would sc... Show More

I Love It
I bought this scanner to bring my old photo/slide collection to the digital age. I was gifted a different item for this purpose, only to discover it would not work with Vista 64. The V600 had good reviews and had the features I wanted It has proven simple to use, and renders a beautiful image. The automatic color correction has been a blessing. I have used this feature with photos, slides, and 35mm negatives to good effect. Being able to scan mult... Show More

v600 = bang for buck
Note my comments pertain to photo scans only - have not tried slides or negative film scans. Pros: no-brainer install, very good color white balance, surprisingly good photo restoration, easy to use software, easily configured front buttons, quick warm-up, good at sharpening, ok dust removal, software that does the job. Cons: very slow at higher resolution scans, no software option for directly opening the image into editing software (Photoshop, ... Show More

Great scanner, fast when its fast, good
I bought this to replace a ten year old $100 UMAX scanner that finally broke. So you can guess how demanding my scanner needs are. I find this scanner is perfect, the lid lifts up nicely to accommodate thick objects, it does a preview scan quickly, and you have plenty of options to choose from for your final scan. I scanned some beaded earrings and necklaces in and they came out pretty good, not insanely better than my old scanner but an improvem... Show More

Seems to work
I like the LED lights. I like being able to scan in black and white 35mm film, 35mm color slides, photographs, etc. I've only had the scanner a week and am having some problems finding out the easiest and quickest way to scan in my 2.25 inch square color slides which have faded. There is no holder or tray for this size so I'm putting them flat on the glass. It seems to take forever to get a good scan -- to the tune of over a half an hour. I am us... Show More

Excellent scanner for the money!
With 6,400 optical rez and a 3.4 Dmax, this unit produces beautiful scans, at a very affordable price. It has a small footprint and is very quiet during operation. The included scanning software is easy to use out of the box. The Digital ICE feature didn't perform as well as I had expected. I haven't used all the features, such as Scan-to-email and Scan-to-PDF, but I expect those to work fine. I did buy a third-party 10' USB cord, as the include ... Show More

Great Value, Good Scanner
I bought this scanner to archive a lot of old slides and black and white photographs. It works well on the slides and archives them quite nicely but I was a little disappointed when it came to the black and white photos. The ICE technology is definitely a little overrated. A Versatile Scanner
Compared with Epson's cheaper models, this scanner gives you the added capability to digitize film images, for a few dollars more. I have digital cameras, so I will not have many future film projects, but the scanner is useful for the occasional old slide or negative project. It has good resolution and color reproduction for both documents and film. Film scans compare favorably with those from my old Nikon LS 2000 (just as good color rendition wi... Show More

Pretty good, but not quite perfection.
I bought the V600 because of the reviews I read regarding its film and slide scanning capabilities and features. For the most part I have not been disappointed. I've embarked on a project of scanning hundreds old family photos of negatives and slides dating from as old as 60 and 70 years. The built in scratch and dust removal features were a major selling point. While they are not perfect, they work quite well and greatly reduce the amount of man... Show More

Works Like a Charm
We are using this to digitize all of our old negatives going back 20 years or more. It is going to be a long drawn out job. This scanner was easy to set up including installation of software and all. We decided to use Vue Scan instead of the provided software which presented the only problem. There is apparently no 64 bit plugin available yet for the V600 so we had to use the 32 bit version. Excellent Product
I have used this scanner on just a few photos to try it out and it did a very good job. However, I have scanned a few hundred slides and it has met all of my expectations. Even though it only scans four slides at a time it is fast (around three minutes) so you can work through a number of slides in a reasonable time. Looking at the scanned image on a large screen TV is a lot better than using a projector and screen combination. I wanted to digiti... Show More

Frustrating and Confusing for Novices; Worth the End Results
Scans pictures and negatives beautifully, but there is a learning curve. If you have negatives that do not have holders, cutting a window to match the scanning slot on the lid out of a clear piece of plastic sheet will help you line them up. Separate frames with a thin black strip, such as one cut from construction paper. You also have to view them in normal mode with the zoom on. Slide scans turned out great!
I recently purchased this scanner to scan lots of 35 year old slides. The results were clean, bright digital pictures. It took about 2 minutes to scan four slides which were quite easily loaded in the special slide tray. The only improvement would be if the tray could be loaded and then placed on the scanner. The current design allows them to fall out if you pick up the tray. We were hoping to speed up the process by having a second tray which co... Show More
