Firstly, for people that want a quality sounding mic with slightly bigger (but still reasonable) budget and lack fancy audio knowledge, this mic takes the cake. I was first intrigued by the well known Shure SM7B mic about a year ago for the great sound but didn't want to drop $1000+ since you need Cloudlifter, mixer, cables, and preamps, etc. Thankfully, Shure answered my questions with the release of this mic and I gave it a shot. The quality isn't quite as good as the SM7V but it's close and for non-audio pros like me, can't tell a hard difference unless they're side by side (even then I struggle to pick up the difference). I've now had this mic for 4 months as I'm writing this review. The product itself is clearly high quality. It's a dense and heavy mic with metal body and frame. I will agree the pop filter leaves something to be desired but that's not a big deal to me since that's a cheaper upgrade easily done after the fact. Mind, I came from a gamer Astro A50 headset so this was a huge leap in quality improvement. I gladly ditched it and hope to never look back. Likely, won't look at another mic for a while either because this one is so awesome. The software is super easy. Very few choices and very clear options. Youtube people reviewing this mic and you will see what I'm talking about. There's no 50 sliders to mess with to get the right balance. Another win in my book. I just wanted a good mic but had budget to go beyond the standard cult classic Yeti. Here's where I took a star off. Bear in mind, I would give the mic six stars if I could. The Blue boom arm is a quality built arm but the tension is a hot mess. I had to look up multiple Youtube videos for help on this and play with positioning on my desk in order to get it to place the mic where I wanted. I played with the tension screw inside the base and twisted the joint fasteners to the tightest I could in order to get it to a semi-acceptable spot. I read the manual and did all the research I could to work with the boom. If I would make the purchase again, I would skip the boom arm and go with another one. There are plenty others that look just as good and likely will not give the same issues. For $100 boom arm, it should be able to do the basic things like hold your said item where you want without the frustration of battling the tension. The boom looks great and it feels of quality construction which is important but they should really take this boom back to the drawing table and fix this one mechanical issue that seems like a common discussion for anyone that has purchased this item. My own personal fix for the boom as literally fold the thing in half while I was at work for the day in order to try to pretty much break the tension myself. Then I tightened the nobs to the tightest settings to hold it where I wanted it. If I move it slightly for adjustment, it will not take it and spring back. First of all, the quality! The QUALITY IS OFF THE HOOK! (Sorry people that I was screaming at this review section). I say the quality because I'm from using Rode Video Shotgun Pro mic on my Canon 80D, so seeing this Shure MV7 mic for the first time, I was stunned by the quality has been built out of it! It almost feels like the first time I saw Dolce and Gabbana brown leather jacket with gold plate on the left chest! (Note that I used the word saw, NOT bought. It was too expensive and the quality is... ) Back to the review! Second was quality! (Seriously? Quality again?) I meant the voice quality. It so crisp that I want to listen to my voice over and over and over (I don't have great sexy voice but I just have normal Asian voice with excitement). The touch control was another part that so good to use. The touch sensor is pretty good (I think the best one is iPhone so if iPhone touch sensor is 10, this mic is 7.5). The last but not the least, the setup. It's so easy. It's getting the power source from the connection (I used USB-C on my MacBook Pro). All cables are included which is another bonus for me. So all you gotta do is plug in. PS. Those of you who are going to use tripod at your home, recommend to get thread adapter that sells in B&H unless you get your own mic stand. I bought Auray TT-6220 Telescoping Tabletop Microphone Stand (Black) here. But when I wanted to use on my small tripod, I needed it. Hope this review helps you to make purchasing decision. I have another review that I wrote about this mic, but B&H's website doesn't appear to let me update that review. I've now been using this mic almost daily for over a year. The audio is crisp and clear, background noise is kept to a minimum, and people on the other end of the meeting/phone call give compliments on the detail that this mic captures. I used to use a condenser mic, but that also had the annoying feature of picking up a lot of 60Hz hum. This mic doesn't do that and I didn't have to make any adjustments to the room either. For the person who mentioned they couldn't fit it in a shockmount, it has one internally. That is why the mic is the size that it is. For those complaining about the USB port, mine hasn't had any issues. I accidentally bent the micro usb connector on the cheap cable they shipped with it and the mic survived just fine. The cable, on the other hand, was useless after that. I solved this problem by finding a 90 degree USB adapter so that the connector isn't pointing straight out the back of the mic. It now sits mostly flush and swiveling the mic is more likely to cause the adapter to disconnect at the other end. If your laptop, like mine, is usb-c only, don't try to buy long usb-c to usb-c cables. They are crazy expensive. Instead, try to buy a usb-c to mini or micro usb-b cable. They are much cheaper. My setup is usb-c to micro usb (10 feet), then an adapter from micro-usb to usb-c (1 inch), and then finally a short usb-c to 90 degree micro-usb adapter (6 inches). ... More

So, I purchased the Shure MV7 Podcast Microphone Kit with Blue Compass Premium Tube-Style Boom Arm (Black) and I must say I don't have any regrets. Off the top, there is one thing that I wish were different, but nonetheless, these products are pretty amazing. Firstly, the Shure MV7 Podcast Microphone is remarkably impressive in the construction, sound quality, and remarkable depth of controls that you have via the Shure Desktop Motiv app or the on-mic controls. This brings me to the thing that wished were different. The connectivity of the app. Shure does provide access to both a desktop and a smartphone app (that you will have to download) but the microphone can only be connected to the devices using wires. It would be more convenient if they were able to connect wirelessly (via WiFi or/and Bluetooth). Once connected to your device the mic can be used or it can also be used by connecting to an audio device using an XLR cord. (regular microphone cable). The Shure MV7 Podcast Microphone is an incredible option for content creators without the needed accessories like cloud lifter and the likes, which other microphones in that category demands. This saves you money, time (as it is faster and easier to set up), and it is more compact and less of a distraction while in use. Lastly, the Blue Compass Premium Tube-Style Boom Arm is smooth, modern, and extremely pleasant to look upon. The Boom Arm is impressively designed and helps tremendously with cable management. This is my first mic ever, and it's perfect for my needs - podcasting, voiceover, and audio books. The option of USB and/or XLR is convenient (and rare), and the idiot-proof software allows this non-technical user to adjust the sound quality to suit different needs and moods (bright for zoom calls, neutral for audio books, dark for voiceovers (drama!). My only concern, expressed by everyone, is the choice of micro USB for the mic end of the USB connection, but that's not enough of a disappointment to deduct anything meaningful. IMPORTANT NOTE! As many reviewers discovered, MV7 is a little too sensitive to plosive sounds (the popping of P's or B's). That is true. However, replacing the standard windscreen with the Shure RK345 will eliminate this problem and render the MV7 a wonderful not-too-bright, not too woolly, mic for a variety of uses. Besides the sound, what I like best about the mic is the near/far option in the software. The far setting allows the distinctive, desirable sound of a dynamic mic without forcing you to keep your mouth uncomfortably close to the mic. I needed a good travel mic for voice overs. My condenser mic set up is too complicated for the road but I also did not want to compromise on quality even though I knew a USB mic could not give me the same quality. I arrived at B&H and people knew immediately who the expert was for my needs. Ryan not only showed me all my options but also carefully listened to my needs and recommended the Shure MV7 podcast mic. I am 2 weeks into my trip now and love this mic so much I might even use it when back home in my prof sound studio!! This is the best microphone experience I have had. The Shure MV7 comes with plenty of connections for any scenario. I use it for a stationary recording office set up at home. I was extremely happy when I saw one of the cables that comes with the microphone is able to directly plug into my Mac through the thunderbolt port. That was an awesome surprise! It also comes with USB, XLR, and has a headphone jack. The sound quality is perfect even if you don't have a soundproof room it captures your voice without any echo/background noises. There is a sensitivity adjuster to help you find the right capture depending on how loud or soft you speak. It also has a mute button. I have used this microphone to record music as well which performed extremely well. The only reason I'm giving this two stars is the mic. It's great! The boom arm on the other hand makes the kit unusable. The springs in the boom arm are so tight that it shoots right back to a straight position every time I let go of it. No matter how loose I make the spring tensioner at the bottom (which seems to do nothing to adjust the tightness of the springs themselves like the manual says), or how tight I cinch down the thumbscrews on the jointed points of the arm it shoots right back into a straight position. I now have to go buy a separate boom arm. I would suggest you order the kit from Shure directly or just get the mic and any other boom are other than this Blue Compass Premium arm in this kit. ... We purchased three sets of these mics for our podcast and online Zoom community. I'm really excited about the XLR/USB combo on this mic. It's no secret that Shure is a leader in the microphone industry, with the SM7b being a coveted mic for podcasters/broadcasters, but definitely out of budget for many. Shure has done themselves, and us, a favor by releasing this microphone. This is a great USB/XLR combo microphone. Perfect for recording to my computer. The arm is alright too. The one thing keeping me from giving this 5 stars however is the micro-USB connector and flimsy micro-USB cable that comes with it. I was adjusting the mic on the first day and my hand accidentally pushed against the connection. Not even that hard but it bent and the cable is ruined. It didn't take much pressure to make this happen. This wouldn't have happened with a USB-C cable and connector. I since replaced the cable with a higher quality micro-USB and am making sure not to even touch it. I love the sound of the mic though. ... More

I wanted a mic upgrade for my home office to both level-up the quality of my telepresence for meetings and podcasts, and help with pesky background noise - leaf blowers, idling trucks, random construction...you know the drill. Shure has an impeccable reputation, but their flagship mics are a little too ambitious for my present needs. That said, I still wanted something that I could grow with, and maybe even repurpose in the future (get the band back together? not likely, but a guy can dream). I own a domestic radio station with Airtime link and this is the best product ever to be on my hands...I usually use a Rode Procaster Broadcast or a Shure SM7B(both GREAT microphones), but the SHURE MV7 its GREAT!!! Love its warm an powerful sound!!

I needed to replace an old Blue Yeti Mic and wanted to stick with a USB style microphone and I took a chance on this. I have always been a fan of the Yeti but wanted to step it up. This is a whole new level. Wow! Not to say the Blue Yeti is not a great mic... It is (especially for the money). But if you are looking to level-up with a flexible USB mic - especially if you are recording in a less-than-perfect room (acoustically speaking) - give the MV7 a go. Can't afford the Shure SM7B? The MV7 is an awesome mic for half the price of the SM7B. When we decided it was time for a mic upgrade from the Q2U, the MV7 was the clear choice. I love the flexibility of both XLR and USB connections (like the Q2U) but the real win with the upgrade is the sound itself. Although it is a little gain hungry, the sound isolation is on point. Another huge bonus is the desktop Motiv app that allows you to really dial in your sound and the touch sensors for mic and headphone volume.
Great addition to my teleconferencing set up.

The directional microphone and noise suppression software work great. Cars drive by, my dog barks and nobody in my conference can hear it. With the conferencing software adding backgrounds, the mike can be right up to my face on my webcam and nobody online can see it. Sound quality is excellent. The packaged boom arm works but could be better. The boom arm itself looks great and I may have to play with the multiple tension adjustments to make it work better.

Cheaper microphones gave me a lot of 60Hz background noise, but that might be because everything around me is running on 60Hz power. If you want to get rid of the 60Hz drone, this will do that for you. With no other sound treatments, I saw no 60Hz noise from this microphone, so that is a big step in the right direction - especially if you want to improve your zoom meeting audio. It stacks up fairly well to it's older, more expensive sibling the SM7B. It does have some problems with sibilance, plosives and other common spoken word issues. The audio community has come up with an alternative solution of removing the non-effective fuzzy cover on the mic element of the MV7, attaching the filter element of the SM7B which does address almost all of those issues. The problem comes from the MV7 having no barrier or distance between the pickup element and the user unlike the SM7B. I own the MV7 and use it for gaming, podcasting and some remote applications. ... The good: The sound quality is very good and the control software is easy to use. The bad: The real-time monitoring is subpar. I use a pair of Shure SE215 in-ear monitors but can never get a satisfactory balance between my sound and the sound from the computer (e.g., when used with Zoom for video call). If this is important to you, Rode NT-USB Mini may be a better option. If a USB option is not important to you, look else where.

Bought this for my youtube live show specifically to cut out echo since I transmit out of my garage. I thought of getting acoustic blankets to quiet the room but thought it more logical to invest in a better mic instead of spending three times as much in blankets that would make my work space look ridiculous. This mic was so worth the money. Super clean, studio-quality audio.

I purchased this microphone based on the recommendation from my Son who uses it in a very professional manner. I've used other microphones, and compared to previous experiences, this product is superior. I recommend this to anyone who need to record or narrate their product (book or whatever). It is also good for video bloggers. I do zoom training and the quality of the audio is better using this product.
