After hearing the original e602 model and noticing a flaw in the design, (see "physics of microphone technology" circa 2007), I decided not to buy the microphone at that time. Now, the updated version comes out and "woohoo," what a great sounding microphone. My normal uses for this model are for Kick Drum, Large Brazillian or Oriental Drums and for Bass Guitar Amps and Upright Basses. I decided to try the mic out on several other applications, like a nylon acoustic guitar and as the "floor" mic in a setup of room ambience mics. In every application this mic works great. The rejection of unwanted material is great and the tone of the mic is warm and pure giving good reference of the audio source. ... More

I've had this mic for several years now, but never really gave it much of a chance. I bought it because it was fairly cheap and I needed another LD Dynamic for when I record live bands. It wasn't until a few months ago that a friend of mine was showing me a recording he was working on, I asked what he used on the kick, because it sounded so warm, and there was no sibilance in it. I was pretty shocked when he told me it was the e602 II. The next chance I got I did a shootout with my usuals. A beta 52a, D112, and D6. The end result is that I have now made the beta 52a my backup mic, the D6 my snap/beater mic, and the e602 II for my outside mic. The D112 is now my bass cab mic for live bands. I'm surprised that such a warm tone comes out of this relatively budget mic. Its pretty solid but really light weight. I gave it 4 stars because its output level is a little low, it doesn't have an internal shock mount, and no gold contacts. But I believe thats where the e802 comes in... that might be next on my list. Don't over think this mic just because its not as popular as some of the other standards. ... More

Okay I know a lot of people use these on kicks, which is fine. But I personally opt for a lot nicer mics on kicks. I usually use a Beta 91 inside and a decent condenser on the outside. But what these mics are great for are bottoms. I use these to bottom mic the toms and snare. EXCELLENT sound. I basically see these as cheaper alternatives to MD421s. I can't drop 2 grand on MD421s, but these were a good investment. You'll be amazed if you use these as I have. 57s on top for attack, these on bottom for resonate. Btw, this is strictly studio use, I've never used these for live sound, as I dont do too much of that. ... More

I'm using a 4-mic drum recording/monitoring setup and I wanted a dedicated bass drum mic so I could free up the one I was using and at the same time have a mic designed specifically for bass drums. I watched some comparison videos and this one had the sound characteristics that I was looking for. Did a test recording at home and it sounds great. As it stands im very happy with this purchase. 2 things to note: the 3/8 to 5/8 gold adapter that it came with only has (extraction) grooves cut into one side. I removed it then accidentally put it back into the mount reversed and I was unable to remove it until I screwed something into it with loctite, waited 4 hours, then was able to unscrew it from the mount. Not sure if others received a 2-side grooved adapter or if this is just how they do it. Anyway I'll probably cut grooves into it with a dremel. The second thing: I tightened down the pivot screw that attaches the body of the mic to the mount and it still never got that tight. Even with those 2 minor issues I still really like this microphone and I'm glad I bought it. ... More

I run the sound for a Bluegrass/Country band and also play the upright bass. If you play with your finger tips this mic reproduces the sound like a profesional studio would. if you play with the side of you finger the bass frequencies really come out and it you will have to adjust you EQ to knock it down or youlll just get a very very boomy and muddy sound. Overall once you mess with it some and figure out how to use it best this mic is a great addition to any sound system trying to pick up bass frequencies. ... More

I've been using this mic for about 2 months now, and I have to say its a huge step up from what I was using for a kick mic. Although I usually replace my kick drum with a sample, this mic has really brought out a lot of the attack and the punch on my kick drum that I usually keep some of the original sound blended with a sample. It also works pretty well on Bass Cabs, and I've gotten good results with it as a reso head on my toms, and my snare drum as well. I would seriously recommend this if you couldn't by a AKG D112.

This mic is a great mic for kick drums and bass cabs. I use it alone or in addition to a Shure beta 91. But most time I don't need the shure as the mic covers all the frequencies I need, good low end and good attack for that snap. The only problem is the mic holder that has to be screwed on a mic stand. Mine is already stripped out, so I am going to get a metal clip specially built for it. Sennheiser should move to a metal mic clip by now. It is its only weak point. Sonic and ruggedness is there. I have taken this mic on several tours and it never lets me down. Get it!! ... More

I am the head sound tech at a large church in my home town and we recently upgraded all of our drum mics. We were originally going to go with a Shure Kick mic but decided to go with this on instead. I couldn't have made a better choice. This mic is great. This mic has the lowest tones I've heard out of any mic. I've recorded with the AKG D112 and the e602 blows it out of the water. This is a great deal on an awesome mic. I recommend it highly.

The sound guy at a show I played used these to mic my bass drums and I thought it was the best my kit had sounded so far. I bought two of these to mic my bass drums at home. Sounds wonderful and the design easily fits through a port hole to mic the beater head from inside the bass drum. This combined with my beta 52a's on the resonant heads sounds so sweet it's ridiculous.

I blind tested this mic against a Shure Beta 52 an AKG D-112 with 2 other musicians through headphones and then studio speakers. The test kits were a recent Gretsch Birch and a 1978 Slingerland. #1. e602 #2 Beta 52 #3 D-112. The detail on the 602 was marginally better than the 52 and remarkably better than the D-112. This is a phenomenal kick mic for the money.

This e 602 II has been in my possession for a week now and I've had no issues so far. It has been without a doubt a great purchase. It give great lows and body to my kick drum before I've even mixed or EQ'd it! I'm interested in seeing how durable it will be in the future. Great buy and great price!

I bought this to use on a kick drum and its everything I was looking for. packs easily, quick set up. The only thing I don't like is the molded threading on the mic stand adapter. After three years I'm starting to feel the "slip" of the threads that lets me know its about to strip.
