Rode Podcaster is the best

Originally I purchased the Blue Yeti Mic. The problem was that the Yeti was way to sensitive and would capture vibrations from my desk or the fans of my desktop. Thus, I decided to try the Rode Podcaster together with a popup filter, Rode Boom and Rode shockmount. What a difference: now I have no problems with background noise, a bit better quality of the recording, and since I am using the Rode Boom I have plenty of extra desk space in front of me. If you are an amateur podcaster with home studio this is probably the best mic for you. ... More

This really is one of THE best microphones on the market.Unlike a lot of USB mics, the Podcaster has accurate vocalreproduction and durability. There's nothing cheap aboutthis piece of equipment. The USB mic is easy to use, greatfor podcasting and voiceovers and even interviews. Fact is,this mic is capable of doing a lot of things, and doing themwell. Not to mention that Rode is one of the finest audiocompanies around. They are committed to quality and it showsin every one of their products. Problems Encountered: The Podcaster software available from the Podcaster Web siteis only Windows compatible. Bummer for us Mac users whowould like to fine-tune the mic a little more. But that'sokay. A 3rd-party plug-in or recording software can usuallytake care of the trouble. Previous Equivalent Items Owned: Mic headset Items I Recommend: Podcaster Shockmount for crisper sound ... More

Did some research on USB mics for recording voice overs for software tutorials. Took a chance on this mic. Construction - very solid, robust. Feels like a tank, which is what I need since I tend to drop things. Handling the mic - since its large and heavy, you need a solid stand. I bought a bass drum mic stand because it was smaller. I think an articulating arm gripped to a table would be better. Setup - using on a Mac or PC, drivers load right in. You just have to remember to go into control panel or sys pref and set the mic input and sound output to the Rode. Sound - very happy with the sound, but like other reviews, I found you need to get close to the mic.....sometimes I get too close. Other than that, the pick up pattern is great because it rejects sound from sides and behind the mic. Overall a great mic....definitely recommend it. ... More

I'm new to recording for AM radio, but I know what I want - a clean recording, one that can be cranked up without annoying distortion, and procedures that are easy to understand and do. It's all in the RODE USB podcaster. In the past three months, I've tried SM58s, Shure SM63LB (mic for television interviewing), and several other mics that I plugged into my laptop 1/8 port - and they all made somewhat degradable recordings. The RODE USB connection means that the mic goes directly into my computer USB port - like it was meant to in the first place - and it goes directly into my Audacity software - BOOM - clean and bright. I don't want headaches with complicated hookups for my computer. I have a Windows 7 laptop, and all I did was stick the USB wire into the computer. Fantastic. Twenty seconds later a message popped up - Successfully installed. I went to my software and hit the record button, and INSTANTLY I was recording. What a gem. ... More

I was using the AT2020 and it's a great mic but the problem with it is that it would pickup so much of the room causing me to work harder editing my voice overs. I wanted a mic that was a dynamic mic so I would have to talk into the front of it to get my voice and be less likely to pickup anything else. The RODE Podcaster is that mic. Did I mention I wanted it to be a USB mic. I know you can do so much more with XLR mic's but for what we do a really good USB mic does the trick beyond well. The RODE has a builtin pop filter or at least most dynamic mic's do but I would still invest in getting a third party one as I noticed it truly helps out the audio. It's hard to find a good one for the RODE so to make things easy for you all the one I'm using is the BSW RE320POP in black. It's perfect for this mic. ... More

I've tried a couple other USB mics for use with my PS4. I wanted a dynamic mic in order to lessen unwanted sound pickup, and there are very few usb dynamic options on the market. The Podcaster sounds great and unlike other mics I've tried (Razer Seiren Elite, Blue Snowball) picks up very little unwanted noise. It seems very solidly built and is quite heavy/large. The mic I received originally appeared to have a damaged back plate (around the usb connection) but upon closer inspection proved to just be sloppily painted. As far as I can tell this is just a cosmetic issue. I did originally buy this mic with the intent to use the headphone out while I stream, but unfortunately this feature doesn't agree with PS4 for whatever reason, and attempting to use the headphone out results in very distorted sidetone with some strange intermittent sounds, none of which are present in a recording. As such I simply don't use the headphone out. Also tested on PC with no issues, so I assume this problem is specific to PS4 compatibility. Overall a very solid mic that sounds excellent. Rode may have some minor quality control issues but I can recommend the mic without reserve, at least for use on PC, and for PS4 with a caveat. ... More

I fired up my audio recorder and did a few test runs... CRYSTAL CLEAR... so much better than the smaller external mics I had been playing with! I've got roughly a dozen hours recored now and they're all going to be uploaded to the web soon - all sounding very professional!

I use this for a podcast that is heard by hundreds of thousands of listeners. It makes me sound great and the quality of construction gives me confidence. Worked without any setup and without any difficulties as it has USB plug-and-play ease.It is very heavy and requires a solid professional stand and optional shock mount and pop filter. As a result it's not practical for use while traveling. Consider it a studio mic only.Price is not low, but it's worth it. It's also made in Australia *

I have really enjoyed using this mic. It's been a few weeks in and I am very pleased with the quality and sound style this mic has. One immediate downside I found is that it's a bit quiet, and you don't have a gain knob. You can either stay in a fixed, very close position (1 inch) while speaking, or use a virtual mixer (like Voicemeeter), which is what I did. Using virtual mixers can be a hassle for most users to set up properly and take time to troubleshoot. I wouldn't recommend this mic to any beginner who doesn't know what they are doing. However, for more experienced software users, you will be pleased with this mic. The cardioid pattern is very apparent, which is great. I would recommend buying another pop filter to slip on top of this to reduce plosives, which did make it through the built-in filter in some cases. ... More

The audio quality that I can get out of this microphone is phenomenal. And not just for a USB microphone, I think this could go toe-to-toe with some of the big boy XLR microphones + audio interface options out there. I have this set up with the Rde PSA1 Studio Arm and PSM1 shock mount in a carpeted room, but with nothing on the walls (definitely not an ideal space for recording audio) and I don't have any issues with background noise or echoes or anything. With how good this microphone is, I would only upgrade to an XLR mic (like the Rde Procaster) if I were doing interviews with others and so needed multiple mics, and then I would get the Rodecaster interface at that stage. ...
