I purchased the iRig Mic when it released and have used it sporadically mostly due to the ambient noise it pics up during a live setting. I've been waiting for the pre forever! I used it last week in a live worship setting using the standard SM58, and true to advertising worked FLAWLESSLY! Ambient noise was cut down drastically due to the cardioid shape of the SM58. Thanks IKM for making such a great product, and thanks GC for selling it!

On the recommendations of a friend, I purchased an iRig Pre and an Apple lightning converter so I could use my iRig with headphones, and am I GLAD. My friend told me she had been using an iRig for 3 plus years and singing on the SMULE sing app. having recorded 3,400 songs! in 2 1/2 weeks I have recorded some 40 plus songs myself. So I use my iRig Pre with an XLR AKG condenser microphone, a pair of 99$ AKG headphones (I already had the mic and headphones) with my iPhone 7 and have spent the last 16 days recording solo, and I have done quite a number of duets, with, among others, Paloma Faith. Charlie Puth, EmRossi, and other amateur singers from across the globe- most of them pretty good, and a few people who struggle. . I cannot put into words how much fun this is! It is simply a riot to be able to do this. It is a real challenge to learn new songs, get the lyrics and learn the "Feel" of new music. Of course, to be able to do this well, you must have a rudimentary idea of how music works, have pretty good pitch and quick learning skills in your toolbox to be able to get the most out of the whole thing. I highly recommend the iRig Pre to anyone with a love of singing and who would enjoy the process Smule App gives you! ... More

Be sure and look carefully at this items photos carefully and do not purchase one based on the product description. This claims to work with iOS devices such as an iPhone or iPad, I've had several of both and NONE have ever had any 1/8" input headphone or other jack. So if you're psyched to be using your guitar and iPhone with Mobile Pod or the like FORGET IT. What a disappointment after reading the description and thinking it was the answer for mobile recording with my iPhone or iPad. This the manufacturers fault not B&H's. How can iK continue to box this with printing saying it works with iOS devices. That could only be possible if it provided a stereo 1/8" to standard iPhone FireWire input jack. Sounds as if it's a great guitar/iPhone device when it could only plugin to an Android. We've been an A/V Production Company for over 30yrs and NEVER have come across such misleading advertising and packaging. IF there's an iOS device with an 1/8" jack - please let us in on it because lacking one has always been a fault. If I'm wrong I apologize, so far I've heard nothing from iK since reporting this several days ago. ... More

I have been trying to put together a VERY small and lightweight system for college students to use for remote broadcasts. This is it. The mic is input via an XRL input. The stereo mini goes into your smart phone (I used it with my iPhone X and worked with the lighting to mini adapter for a X model). I assume it will work with a 6 or 7 iPhone adapter. The only other item you need is to download a FREE audio phone app. This enables your phone to call back to the station while you monitor via headphones which input into the iRig via a stereo mini. It's small, lightweight, and super easy to set up and use. Plus the price is ridiculously cheap compared to a Marti, an IP system, or anything else I could find, and those didn't do what I wanted. Buy it and try it. ... More

The iRig Pre Microphone serves a rather specific purpose to connect XLR microphones into smartphone devices (with a TRRS connection). Using the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, this worked wonderfully, allowing me to use a hand-held (non-phantom) and head-mounted (phantom) microphone with the device. The controls are easy to understand (off, on, phantom) and there's volume knob to adjust the gain. When you hit the right levels, the sound comes through great and is a great way to get more professional sounding microphones into DIY/last minute recording setups. There is also a hack (which voids any warranties) to route sound exclusively through the headphone jack, enabling it's use with devices such as DSLRs, making it a very inexpensive way to get microphones connected to higher-end equipment if you only need one input. Highly recommended. ... More

This is an inexpensive way to do professional looking radio remotes using studio quality microphones via cell phones! Note some cells limit the low frequencies but sound still outshines typical RF (Marti) remote units. Quality is best if you use Comrex, Tieline, etc software for live shots or Twisted Wave or similar audio recoring software for pre-recording files to send (via email, dropbox, google drive or similar). I would give 5 stars if there were marks on the level control (for repeatability-we set it and taped over it so it wouldn't be bumped) and a little easier power switch to get to (also maybe separate switch for phantom power as we won't be using that). ... They let me try it by opening the box for me. I wanted to make sure that a) it sounds better than the internal mic of my iPad and b) it does not increase the noise level. This product passed both tests. I needed this to let my condenser mic to connect to my iPad. The price is also not overwhelming and the setup is very simple. It supplies a phantom power for a condenser microphone. I can adjust the volume with it too. The iPad mic is not bad but the sound is a bit thin. I can use my own condenser mic which I know can capture the thickness of sounds and this product really helps. ... More

I bought the iRig as an active DI box for a microphone setup. But it is wired to work only with a low gain circuit on mobile phones. I was looking for a cheap, no fuss line level mic amp. But this is a low gain circuit, to high gain mic, active DI box. The headphone out is connected to the phone's output, not the iRig's. Unfortunately this isn't noted in the description. As one commenter already posted, with a few changes in wiring, this little box could be used as a DI box for a digital camera, and other recording devices. This is a device that connects your XLR microphone to a device that accepts TRRS input (e.g. phone, tablet, modern computers, etc.). It provides phantom power, has a headphone jack, and has a dial to control gain. I'm sure that a dedicated interface would bring out more nuanced sound, but you can't beat the price, mobility, and ease of use if all you want is to connect an XLR microphone to any device.

Had a shoot coming up and the client really skimped on the sound budget. So I was not gonna do dual system sound because I didn't want to line up audio even with plural eyes. Bout this to connect AT875 to my bmpcc and got usable results. The camera records low quality Audio files but for cheap clients I will be using the mix pre and mic directly into the camera because it actually sounds good. I didn't have high goes for this but it really delivered for what I needed it for.

My only niggle is that when using with my Audio Technica boom mic for example, it won't tell me if I'm too hot, so make sure your levels are good by interfacing with a program or device (ala Premier Pro for example) before doing anything too serious, or you may not end up with desireable recording.
