This box is a great idea ! And it works really well, here are the downsides for theatrical mixing: you only get +13dBu maximum output gain. profesional ADDA converters (max output +22dBu) are usually calibrated for -18dBFS in the DAW to output +4dBu leaving 18dBs of headroom. That means that if you mix with wide dynamics, and average your mix at -18dBFS in the mixing studio, then play it back with the PlayAUDIO12 your average will fall 18dBs below the +13 allowed by the box = -5dBu. You will have to crank the line preamps by 9dBs to regain what you lost, hence putting more noise in the signal chain. Secondly, it would be awesome for the USB midi controller input to accept other devices than a midi compliant device, a computer keyboard for example. Modern production with redundant systems require other devices than a midi controller but you can only plug a midi class-compliant controller, and fill it with tape and sharpie labeled keys... ...
