Surprisingly sharp and at a good price point. Used with a D810 for a series of night shots, and was quite happy with the results.

Value for the Price

Dec 12, 2016

I did a review earlier but for some reason it did not get posted. Recently bought my first full frame camera after using crop angle for years. Wanted a fast lens for night time / astrophotography / low light lens to go with it. Purchased after reading the reviews and a good deal from B&H. Tried it at Golden Gate Bridge (below is the photo). 100 ISO, 1.3, at 2.8. It is excellent for low light. A little soft but good at this price. If you need a ul... Show More

great lens if you get a good sample

Dec 11, 2016

Saw many photos online taken with these lenses plus some glowing tests by the lens tests sites, and it made me want to get one. I also read about poor quality control, and had first hand experience with that as well. I had to try 3 lenses before I found a really good one. first one was unusable, second one was just OK. third one was fantastic. A good sample of this lens compares to Nikon and Canon lenses costing 5X as much, and is sharp wide open... Show More

Dec 11, 2016

This lens is every bit as sharp on my Canon 6D as the reviews I've read suggested it would be, and well built as well. It compares very nicely to my TOKINA 12-24mm lens (though that lens only covers a full frame sensor from 18mm onward. Focusing is very much a challenge, even scale focusing is a challenge as there are no depth of field scales on the lens - technically astute readers will understand why there aren't. I haven't been able to test it out at night due to cloudy skies. I have tested it taking pictures of my dogs. One of which is a black lab so in low light conditions she can be difficult to get pictures of. This lens however, can get pictures of her.The only issue is a photographer who isn't used to manual focus. I am learning. So far I haven't taken any horribly out of focus or under/over exposed. I have been playing with this lens in manual mode. I can't wait for clear skies to test it at night. It is a great lens for the price.

Bought FE E-mount version first, using on Sony A7II. Return it because of blurry corners. It's heavy too. Now I bought Cannon EF one, very sharp the whole frame even wide open, also balance well on tripod with adapter tripod mount for Sony A7II.

Having read many owners comments on the Rokinon 14mm f/2,8, I decided to take a chance and get one. The reviews were mixed - some had good copies, some had bad copies. Perhaps I was lucky. Build quality is acceptable. My lens is sharp enough, sharpness is even across the field, and it exposes properly at zero EV. If you are not a professional using your equipment too make a living, for the price difference between the Rokinon and the Nikon 14mm, this lens will suffice.

Nightscapes/Astrophotography

Dec 7, 2016

7 Dec 2016: I'm writing this review now because I was asked through email to do so, but I'll update when the exchange process is completed. Like many others, I bought this for nightscapes/astrophotography. My first copy ended up being decentered and I have sent it back for an exchange. Overall image was pretty soft at all focus distances. Right side of images were significantly out of focus compared to the rest of the image. I tested for a decent... Show More

Wow!! The quality of this lens is amazing. I got it about 6 hours ago and i cant take my hands off my camera. Definitely a great price for what the lens has to offer. I am an all-round shooter and I'm going to basically use this lens for a-lot of my work. I think every shooter should have this bad boy in their camera bag !

Great Wide Angle Lens

I like to photograph landscapes and cityscapes. I love being able to set the lens at hyperfocal distance, which places everything more than a few feet away in focus, and shooting away. Love it on my EOS M3.

Very sharp lens. The AE chip allows you to see your settings on the camera screen - an improvement well worth the extra cost. Cons: no auto focus. I mostly used this for milky way photos. At 15 seconds, ISO 3200 the stars look like pinpoint stars & the milky way looks great. Since I just set the focus to infinity & shoot there is no need for autofocus. You need to check the infinity setting to make sure exactly where that is on the lens scale - g... Show More

This is my second Rokinon lens for my Canon EOS DSLR. The first was their fisheye lens and now this wide angle 14mm. They are MANUAL lenses but very easy to use, trust me, I'm a rank amateur photographer. Just set the program to AV (aperature priority and the camera handles shutter speed), adjust the exposure to meet your lighting and focus as needed and you'll get great shots. Oct 14, 2016

As I have recently moved into a full frame camera from a Canon 70d, I had to change from another Rokinon lens to this one. I never appreciated it as much as when we visited Big Bend National Park in Southwest Texas and realized what the sky really can look like outside of the city lights. This lens, at 2.8 f/stop, was great and allowed me to capture some truly memorable shots. Manual focus is not really a problem in astrophotography and that is the predominant use of this lens for me. And great price.

Excellent Lens for the Purpose

Oct 11, 2016

I purchased this lens to use with my 6D for astro photography. In testing it against a brick wall (around three feet away) it was sharp from edge to edge. On the other hand there was severe mustache distortion, the image showed extreme curvature away from the center on both sides. Not a problem with night skies, however I wouldn't use it for architecture photography or anything that has strong vertical lines. Reported by several pro friends this ... Show More
