DOES WHAT IT SAYS IT WILL DO

May 23, 2012

I use the CM500 on my Ham gear. It drives my 756 Pro III very well. The audio out of the headphones is pleasent to my ears and they are very comfortable. I am planning to use the power out of the radio to drive the electric mic so I don't have to use the battery pack. I think this a great value and a great way to save some hobby money for other things.

Great value

Dec 31, 2010

I bought these 'phones to use with a K3 ham radio transceiver. They work fantastic--lightweight, adjustable to fit my head easily, and great audio quality on receive and transmit. It would be nice if they came with ear covers but I'm being picky, as those can be purchased I'm sure from a number of other sources. A great value for the price.

DOA

Apr 14, 2011

1-Star only because I can't figure out how to give it zero stars. It is still in the package, unopened and broken. I was not here to inspect it within the 2 days of arrival so I'm not sure what remedy I have available. I certainly don't want to incur a return shipping charge for a product that is visibly broken in the package

The great price B&H sells this headset just one reason to get the Yamaha CM 500. It is a plug and play headset for my Elecraft K3 amateur radio. I can wear it for hours during a long net and I get very good audio reports. Other ops often pay three times it's price and do not sound any better. I am pleased as punch.

Great alternative for ham radio!

Sep 14, 2010

I am using the headset with my Elecraft K3 ham radio transceiver. It has become very popular with other operators as an alternative to much more expensive headsets from specialized suppliers. It was a simple plug-and-go installation with my equipment and should be the same or easily adapted with other radio types.

As advertised

Mar 25, 2010

Have bought Yamaha sound products my whole life, and always expect a good value from them. These seem to be just that. Could use a little more sound isolation, and a little tighter bass, which seems to happen if I press the bottoms of the cups closer to my head. Perhaps my head is just shaped funny.

I would recommend this product

Feb 4, 2012

I use the CM500 - Headset with Boom Microphone, for my amateur radio operation and it performs very well. The main reason for purchasing it is because it is light weight. As a Ham Radio contester, I have the headphones on for very long periods of time and thse are comfortable for that application.

Pretty Darn Good For The Money

Mar 26, 2012

I have a small production company and these are great to have crew have quiet conversations. The settings we are in need unobtrusive sound during event. These do the job real well. The only drawback is that the padding in the headset ear covers, the feel is not annoying or uncomfortable.

HAM Radios Best Kept Secret

Dec 7, 2012

Very comfortable especially on long contest weekends. Great audio reports from the boom mic using the bias box. I replaced a set of Sony MDV 107 which were twice the price. No RFI issues even at 1500 watts. As the headline says; its one of HAM radios best kept secrets. 73 de N2KI

Excellent Product for Elecraft K3

Dec 19, 2011

I use the CM500 with my Elecraft K3 Amateur Transceiver and it works excellent! The mic element has a nice wide and sensitive response and the supplied battery bias box is not needed due to the built in bias of my K3. Excellent build quality considering it price tag also!

Great Headset/Boom Mic

Apr 16, 2015

The headset has replaced my high dollar Heil headset. Both headsets work fine although, the Heil weighs a ton and gets hard to wear after a little time. The Yamaha headset is light weight and has great audio both receive and transmit. regards, Rick

Good quality

Sep 13, 2010

The Electret mic has excellent audio qualitiy and high output. The head sets clamp tightly on my head and block out ambient noise well. They are uncomfortable to wear for hours at a time. I am pleased using them on my Elecraft K3.

Excellent for the price.

Aug 22, 2013

It would be great if it had a larger more robust mic cable with a standard XLR male connector thus being able to utilize phantom power instead of the inline triple A battery power and a mini jack. Sounds and works good otherwise.

Use with Elecraft K3 ham transceiver

Jul 20, 2015

The Yamaha CM500 headset is ideal to use with the Elecraft K3. It is plug-n-play, and the audio quality on both transmit and receive is excellent. And you can't beat the price, especially when compared with the Heil headsets.

THE headset for ham radio

May 3, 2015

I bought the headset for my Icom 7400 radio. Works great. Excelent speakers and a very good mic. I think they are better than the heilsound and much cheaper. The quality is not good but still a great headset for the price.

Acceptable...ok at best

Jul 8, 2015

I purchased these items because they were recommended to me by the sales person. a great deal of echo, very cumbersome and for the money not even close to doing the job....not even satisfied if they were half the price.

Lightweight, high gain microphone, good headphone sensitivity. I was hoping for a slightly tighter fit for more noise blocking - perhaps I can still bend them a bit more. Great headphones/microphone for the money.

I first heard about the CM500 from ham radio operators who use it with their transceivers. The headset is comfortable to wear and the microphone gets glowing audio reports from contacts all over the world.

Excellent fit and function

Dec 26, 2010

This headset works great. Does have an electret mic rather than a dynamic mic. I knew this already, but since the add says with Dynamic Boom Microphone I thought it would be good to make this clear.
