I am not sure why I'm bothering writing. Everyone else loves these phones and I do too. I am an audiophile and care about the details of quality sound. I will tell you about these phones in three parts: 1. their performance without considering their price 2. their value (performance vs. price) 3. their practicality 1. Performance: These are very good headphones. I needed to use the equalizer to get the best performance out of these phones (dial down the bass a tad and up a few notches the most extreme treble) to get a fully balanced sound. They responded pretty well to that. After that, they have a very, very good, tight bass, a smooth, detailed and neutral midrange, but there is something a little harsh going on in the treble. The sound stage is stable. The overall sound is pleasant, is slightly dull. They get a little lost in complex passages. Never-the-less, they are headphones you can listen to for extended periods. Vocals are excellent, bass and drums are great. Violins are a challenge to many phones, good here. Harmonica, vocal sibilants and high-hats are a bit harsh. These perform best with rock music, classical, folk, etc. 2. Value: Wow! I've tried a lot of headphones and, like wine, found that price and performance are not related that well. I find their sound is on par with high-end Bose cans. These are more open in the middle, while the Bose might be a little more refined in the treble, but not much. A lot of headphones have a floppy bass (these don't) or some harshness in the middle (nope) or something sharp in the treble (these suffer there a little to a critical ear). Still at their price they are simply phenomenal - at three times their price, they still have little competition. You could spent 10 times what these cost and get a poorer performer. It's true. 3. Practicality: They are comfortable for extended periods, light. The cord is 4 feet long - perfect for portable and good for an FM antenna. A nice touch is that the cord has a 90 degree bend as it enters the player - this takes the pressure off the cord and reduces the size. Clever. They fold up a little, not that small. They only block out outside noise a little. They seem to be efficient - i.e. they play louder than other headphones I've tried for the same amount of power. This may be important to you. They seem a little fragile. Be careful with them. (I had a set of these 20 years ago and they lasted me 6-7 years before my teenage daughter took over them. They didn't last more than 2 years with her!) Conclusion: These are entry-level audiophile headphones. They have a nice, balanced, clear and neutral sound. They can use a little equalizer. They are pleasant and full. They are light and comfortable, if a little fragile. For the price, they are a steal. Ridiculously good. Soapbox: i don't work for Koss. Koss has been around a long time, before iphones and ipads and mp3 players. Few people know of them. It's a shame they didn't see the opportunity to promote themselves when the digital portable player and their in-ear phones revolutionized the portable market. They have had some really great products at stupid good prices. These UR-40's are an example. Another example is their Porta-Pro (sold here too) - these are even better than UR-40's, for a little more! Let your music energize and touch you. ... More

First thing I noted right after unboxing is the real lihtweight this headphones are. I like a lot this feature coming from a Beat Studio which are heavy and uncomfortable. Perhaps they feel a bit flimsy, I will only use it on my desk though they could be portable because its weight and comfortable due to its design I don't recommend it. Secondly, this headphones are VERY comfortable, I barely notice them and there's no problem to use it with my glasses on. I have a regular-sized ears and the ear cups fully cover them. Fits perfect with an almost perceivable pressure in the head and ears just right enough to keep them in position. Regarding sound quality, I just say I like them!! Sound is very different compared to the Beat Studio I also have. The bass is there but not over exaggerated, middles are present but kinda low and highs are pleasantly clear and overall I could say they have a well balanced -some say flat- sound. This headphones alone made a real change in the sound that comes out from my Mac and my Bose satellite speakers, making it more balanced and pleasant to hear for long periods of time. Despite the sound improvement -to my ears- it feels weak and lacking of something. That's why I matched this headphones with a Head-amp (Fiio E10K). Now they show all their potential and the output is a lot better, clear, still well balanced, a nice separation of the sound, but very natural. I don't consider myself as an audiophile but I like the good sound and despite I didn't tried other devices to make a better comparison, I can say that this headphones are the best value for its price. ... I have the Koss UR20 headphones, and have been very satisfied with them for years. When B&H was out of stock of the UR20, and I needed another headset, I tried these. I was disappointed. The sound is not as robust as the UR20's, the ear cups are light with speakers that have little volume capacity, no highs and lows, tinny sound. The wire is very cheap and very short, so that it keeps catching on things while turning my head or reaching for something, even nearby, while wearing them. Since the wires are a two-wire design (the UR20 is of one wire design, that dangles from the right ear), so that two wires lead out from each ear cup, the wires flop around the upper arms and shoulders with every slight movement. Also the wires seem to be of a very light gauge. It's constricting, and it feels as if they're going to get torn apart at any second. They're not solid, durable wires. up I mistakenly assumed this would be an upgrade from the Koss UR20, but, in my opinion, even if this model costs more, the UR20 is a much better desktop headphone set. I believe this model is designed to be collapsible, and is made for travel, for packing into a suitcase. It has three articulated joints; one in the top, and two more, above the right and left ear cups. I tried to collapse it down, and it does fold up to a certain degree. I've had other folding headsets that collapse down much more, though. This model would be good for limited use, in a hotel room, attached to a laptop. I do not recommend this for home use, at your computer desk. It's not intended for home use, it's a travel unit (if you're looking for an indestructible, heavy duty, good quality, entry level, Koss headphone, for use at the computer desk or for connecting to an audio system, go for the UR20). This is not a good headset for regular home use. The wire is too short and fragile, and the general design is not robust, the sound quality is marginal. I'd only recommend these for travel & occasional use. ... More

Okay.. I've recently started doing VoiceOver work on a more professional level and needed new headphones. My old ones were too muddy. I wanted something that had enough clarity for me to hear background noise, mouth clicks, and any other subtle noises that would keep me from having a clear recording. I can't afford to spend the $ on studio quality headphones, but after reading the reviews here and on other review pages, I decided to give this a try. Besides.. Great reviews and only $*.. how can you go wrong?!Got them, tried them. Sound was beautiful. Hubby could hear what I was listening to, but keeping my sound from being heard wasn't a factor in my decision making. I needed clarity and as an added bonus, they're really comfortable too! Not just my head.. but for hubby too. If you're looking for good headphones for a great price... these are it. I'm VERY happy with my purchase! ... More

I have owned quite a few headphones, and am pretty paticular about them. I have owned all the big brand names (Pioneer, Sony, Panasonic, Senheiser, Philips, JVC, and these are by far the best. I find myself conservative in reviewing items, but these deserve their 5 star rating. They are super comfortable, and fully envelop your ears, yet they do not put pressure on your head to create that headphone fatigue or discomfort we all know about. They are light weight, which is unbelievable if you judge by their size. The sound is superb, very rich with clarity on both highs and lows. You can easily pick up various instruments in a orchestra/band etc.Did I mention they can double as ear-muffs in the unforgiving New York City winters?A couple of draw backs ( well not really, but what good would a review be if you don't mention the flaws of the product): The headphone material seems on the low end side and cord a bit thin, but at $ who am I to complain? Care must be applied if you want them to last for a while. Conclusion: GO GET THEM!!! I will pick up another pair for a family member and am confident they will appreciate them as much as I do. ... I use these headphones primarly for videogaming, but I also use them to listen to music quite often. So far, I've been pretty impressed by the sound quality. The bass is pretty good as are the high and low notes. The build quality seems pretty good, too, although I'd be careful not to handle them too roughly. The most important quality of a headset for me is the weight, and these are super light weight. I've used them for 2 hours at a time and my neck barely feels tired with these on. Overall, you cannot beat the sound quality and light weight of these headphones for the price, not to mention the fact that you can adjust the left and right height of the ear phones with respect to the band. Lastly, it's nice that the headset comes with an adapter for plugging them into a stereo receiver headphone jack. You also can't critize the nice aesthetic look of these as they are sleek with a silver tone and a sort of alienish (cue spooky music) look to if you look down at them from the top band. The only potential con is that the headphone cord is only about 4.5-5 feet long but longer cord length isn't a high priority for me. ... More

Pretty balanced. Very lightweight and comfortable. Work well with smart phone also. Worth three times the price.

I needed headphones for late-night tv watching that doesn't disturb my wife or neighbors. I picked these up with a headphone extension cable, because of their low price, their good reviews, and because the open back design would allow me to hear the room if I needed to. These have been better than I expected even considering the reviews. The sound quality is vastly superior to other headphones I've had at more than twice the price. No, not the best I have ever heard, but substantially better than their price should allow. I couldn't recommend them more!

I am an audiophile, and I've owned probably 10 pairs of audiophile and mid grade headphones and these low end (pricewise) are the ones I use every day. Comfortable, efficient, clear, good bass (not jacked up), and lightweight. These headphones are worth $200 IMO. I've tried many Sennheiser, JVC, AKG, Sony, and the Koss are an amazing value. These are as good a deal as and a nice upgrade from the UR5 that is common at Radio Shack - also an AMAZING set of phones for $10!! I'm all about spending big money ($2-500) on headphones, but take a leap of faith and try these things out... The ONLY negatives I can mention is that the wires go to each speaker, so inevitably, even with care, they will get sort of twisted, and the cord goes sort of stiff - like its under strain. The other thing is that I was spoiled by the inline volume control of the UR5, but I hear you can add one to solve that. ... More

Even though I only own them for 2 weeks this set of headphones are comfortable and economical. The sound is clear and one is able to have a conversation with someone else while listening to music or watching a movie. If you are not interested in communicating or blocking out all the sound outside of your headphones then these are not for you. The only negative is that the cord is a little too short and thin. So far I'm well pleased with them.

These headphones are perfect for my music studio! It gives you the feeling of being live at a show! The clear, deep bass capability is great for my tracks of which most contain low end bass. The collapsible feature is cool as well. The only bad thing is that the ear pads aren't thick enough. Sometimes your outer ear could get sore from the contact. But overall, very nice pair of headphones!

Super-light, comfortable, raised bass but no boomy resonances (like cheaper closed-backs), and you can hear folks and the room. However, the high frequencies were dull on my PC jack, though OK with a Rolls amp I use with the TV. I needed something more accurate for mixing and voice work. I ended up getting GRADO SR80e's ... So...very good for music and TV, but you need more to make music/voice masters. No surprise....consolation: awesome w/music listening.
