MeFOTO BackPacker Travel Tripod (Titanium)

Solid and compact
I got this tripod to use for backpacking photography; the main selling features being that it was small enough to fit in a day pack and that it was solid enough to hold a full-sized SLR. The tripod had features that I wasn't happy with (ball head and screw leg locks instead of lever locks), but I purchased it anyway because it seemed to be the best offering that was both small and sturdy. After using it in the field, I was impressed with how quic... Show More

Compact but very unstable for DSLR's
I searched and searched for the best value and overall best reviews for a travel tripod. I have a full size Induro tripod which is amazing but also very heavy to carry around. After a series of reviews between the Manfrotto BeFree and the MeFoto travel tripod I settled on the MeFoto. It doesn't raise up as hight as the Manfrotto by about 5 inches but won with easier folding up compared to the Manfrotto. The price difference of about $40 also help... Show More

Great little travel tripod
I am really impressed with the overall quality of the tripod for the size and price. Yes, there are other travel tripods out there, but not for anywhere near this price and not with an Arca-Swiss ballhead. It feels well made and the legs work smoothly. It isn't the tallest tripod and you have to extend the center column to get it up to usable standing height, but it is as advertised. This is NOT some flimsy, box store discount tripod. It is a very ... Show More

20 hours of abuse............
I bought this to replace several previous compact tripods I had no confidence in. I shoot landscapes, cityscapes and a great deal of light painting. Underground, tunnels, caves, abandoned Bldg's etc. My equipment works, they are tools. I needed a compact tripod to hold a Canon 50D and 5D Mark II with L Series lenses to photo an outing on the Hatfield McCoy ATV Trail System. Packed loose in the top tray of a foam filled tool box full of camera gea... Show More

Light, Stylish, Compact, Sturdy.
I bought this to replace an entry-level compact Manfrotto tripod for travel. I attach the tripod to my camera bag, so it must be light, compact and easy to use. This tripod meets all those criteria. I like the ball head, the twist-lock legs, and since my favorite color is orange, the anodized accents. The pan-swivel makes taking panoramic photos easier. The materials and machining quality is very good. It's very solid, has a hook from which to ha... Show More

Perfect hiking/backpacking tripod
This is mainly my outdoors tripod. I use it for hiking, take it along rock climbing trips, etc. It's been with me for about two months and I've taken it everywhere around California and Costa Rica and it's still going strong. I've used it as an improvised table top/quick use tripod for some products as well. I love the size, the non-existent weight, and the available color schemes. It also helps that it's super cheap, so if it ever breaks down (w... Show More

Best for my needs
I purchased this tripod to carry in my motorcycle saddlebag; it fits with room to spare. I'll be using it with the Fujifilm's water proof point and shoot that I carry in my jacket pocket however, for this review, I attached my D200 with the battery pack and Nikon's 18-200mm lens. I extended the tripod legs to its full length. I always position my camera, depending on the angle of the lense, up or down, so that one of the tripod legs carries the w... Show More

Very impressive tripod!!!
I purchased this tripod for travel requirements. I'm often in a situation where I think I really wish I had a tripod for this but hate the thought of lugging around something big and awkward. This tripod fits into my suitcase without taking up much space at all, and is light as a feather. The height when fully extended is good. I am about 5'10 so have to lean over a little to look into my DSLR's viewfinder, but that's fine and not too much of a h... Show More

Highly functional and lightweight for hiking/backpacking
I used to leave my tripod at home because it was such a pain to carry on hiking/backpacking trips. This one makes it possible to bring along. Lightweight, strapped to back of my pack. Easy and fast to setup and use, leg positions worked in various situations (slickrock, forest, gravel...). Ball head is super fast to adjust and the circular level worked well although it was hard to see it sometimes the way I had the camera mounted. The knobs for b... Show More

Great Tripod, Great Service
I love this tripod! It is very compact and lightweight, yet still strong enough to hold my Sony a7 with a 200mm lens and my Gigapan unit. In addition, the customer service provided by MeFoto is awesome! I had lent out this tripod to a friend who unfortunately unscrewed the legs all the way. When she did this it lost a little spacer that helps keep the legs from falling out. I was initially worried that that would be the end for this tripod, but I... Show More

Perfect micro 4/3 solution
I recently got into the Olympus 4/3 system and wanted a tripod that was light, sturdy and feature but cheap. This MeFoto really delivers on call counts. First I want to correct some miss-information and share what I found. This does not have a detachable leg and does not become a mono-pod. That's the other bigger more expensive models. What I was not able to determine until I got my hands on this is that it can infact be inverted to shoot from ab... Show More

Good for mirrorless, not so much for DSLR
The main attraction of this tripod is how small it is when completely folded. It really folds up to 12-13 inches and is very light. This makes it great for travel and hiking. I have used it on 10+ mile hikes where a heavy tripod quickly becomes a burden. Being so small and lightweight there are a few negatives. I find the lock at the top of each leg often needs a couple of pushes to lock in, there is some creep on the ball head that is annoying, ... Show More

Very portable and perfect for right situations
Bought this for travel where size/weight is a consideration. IMO it doesn't replace a substantial, standard sized, tripod when you must have rock solid support for heavy gear. But, it's perfect for MFT gear since this can be easily supported. One other minor downside is that it isn't as tall as the standard sized but what do you expect for a tripod that weights effectively nothing and folds down to 12 in length. My one small gripe is that where t... Show More

Great size... no stability
I travel all of the time, anything from cars and planes to hiking, and this tripod has changed the way I travel! It's tiny, super light, and comes with a padded travel case, what more could you ask for? Well that's where the con comes in... it's not far from being a full size tripod which is nice, especially for its size and weight, but the screw on the quick release plate absolutely will not stay tight!!! As we all know, this is a huge problem! ... Show More

Nice solid travel tripod
Title says it, pretty much. The only thing that wasn't obvious to me from the description is that the center column is permanently fixed to the spider such that you can't get the ball head down to the top of the spider as you might on many other tripods. There is no short center column furnished, obviously, and it is non-reversible. It still folds up very compactly but if you are looking for something that's going to let you work practically on g... I like it.
Bought this for an upcoming trip to Japan. I had a monopod with stand but was never really happy with its stability, so I thought Id try a travel tripod. Seems well designed and folds up really small. Included ball head works well. It has a nice leveling tool on it, tightens down nicely too. Its also Swiss arcs plate compatible. The leg segments are short so that it can fold down smaller. Set up time does take some time if you need full heigh... Show More

Great travel tripod
I needed a tripod that could collapse to a small size for motorcycle trips. At 12.6 inches, this fits in one of my saddlebags. I've used it a few times and it's a good quality. The ballhead is sturdy. It takes alot of force to move it when it's locked down. The ballhead can be changed if you like. Any ballhead with a standard 3/8-16 thread will fit. The pan movement has resistance and almost feels fluid like-good for panning videos. When extended... Show More

LOVE my MeFOTO!
I took my MeFOTO backpacker tripod on a trip last week. I love it! It is small and sturdy enough for me (I have a mirrorless camera). I don't mind unscrewing the 4 sections of the legs because I just kept it set up and put it in the trunk of the car between stops. The pink color got a lot of comments. Some people thought the pink was really cool, others seemed to think it's not professional enough. I don't care - I really like it. The quality see... Show More

Small and lightweight for the money
I have a little Zoom Q2n camera that I use for recording musical performances. This tripod comes with a very nice carrying case and theres room in it for the camera too! This is largely due to the compact size of the tripod when it is fully collapsed. With so many segments, I thought it would be tedious to expand and collapse, but you can twist all the connections loose in two twists per leg (maybe one if your hands are big enough) and its real... Not as good as I expected!!
After reading too many reviews and videos I decided to buy this tripod. It is well made and sturdy. When I mounted my Fuji X-T1 with the 18-55 the ball head tightens nice and positive. When I put my XF 50-230 (which is a very light plastic Fuji lens) on and tighten down, the ball head allows the camera to drop down about a 1/8 inch. Tried this with the 18-135 and again, not as much, but after the camera and lens is in the position I want it to be... Show More

Unbelievably compact
I had been recommended to purchase a MeFoto tripod by several other photographers. I was reluctant, but am overwhelmingly pleased. Firstly is the size, it is just over a 12 inches long and has it's own carry case. This is perfect since I transport most of my photo gear via motorcycle. It doesn't take up much room or very heavy if I need to wear it on my person. Secondly, it is surprisingly stable for its construction and being aluminum. The major... Show More

Perfect tripod for me
I take 360 spherical panoramas so a good tripod is an absolute must for me. My panoramic head and camera and lens weigh around 4 pounds or so, and the ball head has no issue holding all that while pointed down 90 degrees for the nadir shot, though I do have to crank the set screw down with a fair amount of force. It has a hook on the bottom which I hang my backpack from and it really makes the tripod steady and not very likely to tip over, even w... Show More
